5 out of 5 stars This is an amazing worship CD..........2007-03-18

This is the first CD of Byron Cage I have ever heard. I can't tell you now what made me look for him except that it was the Spirit's leading. I was looking to refresh my gospel, P&W CD collection as I worship and workout to this music. I was led to this CD by Byron Cage and from the first song, I knew I had made a good choice. Not everyone who has a good singing voice can lead worship. You have to be Spirit-filled and Spirit-led to be a true worship leader, and Byron Cage is. God has touched him with a special gift and each song on this CD leads me deeper into worship when I hear it. I bought this and Judith Christie McAllister's "In His Presence Live" together; got one first then the other (hers) later. So I had time to listen to Byron Cage's over and over before I got turned onto the next one. If I had to choose which was my "favorite", I couldn't choose. I just feel so blessed to have them both to lead me into a deeper private worship experience with my Lord and Savior.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible!.......2007-03-10

I can't believe I waited so long to buy this CD; it's been in my car's cd player for several months now. Every song on here is so annointed. My day does not really get going until I hear "I Will Bless The Lord".

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable Invitation!.......2007-02-07

This is one invitation you do not want to turn down!! Byron Cage has an anointed voice and gift!! This CD is so powerful. I am really upset that more mainstream stations don't play his music. This CD lifted me up during a difficult time during the loss of my dad. I literally placed the CD in for the first time in November of 06 and it has been the only CD in my player for the past three months!! There is healing and salvation, joy and praise in this CD. Get it now!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Uplifting.......2007-01-14

He has done it again. The Lord is using him in marvelous ways,

4 out of 5 stars Needs more work.......2007-01-05

I can only connect with maybe 3 songs on this album. They are good, dont get me wrong, but when you've heard worship and then you've heard WORSHIP your expectation is greater.
He has some good worship songs and some lively songs of praise, but I think I've been too spoiled to really grab hold of this one.

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack.......2007-03-23

This is one of the best soundtrack I have. It is outrageously funny as well as extremely touching. I recommend it highly

5 out of 5 stars Fantstic Cast Album.......2005-09-21

Was very pleased with the beautiful music and the quick delivery time.

5 out of 5 stars a musical with some very good scores.......2005-08-26

this CD is a very good introduction to the musical score from a very succesful stage musical ~ if you like good musicals this is a must have.

4 out of 5 stars A Very Good Cast Album.......2005-08-19

Kudos to Harvey Fierstein for being so true to the Jean Poiret play. Jerry Herman did a wonderful score - my favorite song was "The Best of Times". Gene Barry turns out to be a good singer, esp paired with the talented George Hearn.

5 out of 5 stars Great Score w/ Several Standards.......2005-06-24

I recently saw the revival of this show on Broadway. With exceptions, the production was average & certainly seemed dated when compared to other shows, but ... Jerry Herman's beuatiful score remains truly powerful and contains many theatrical standards!

Best songs include:

We Are What We Are
A Little More Mascara (the "drag theme")
Song On The Sand
La Cage Aux Folles (the "production number")
I Am What I Am (the "showstopper")
The Best Of Times

George Hearn & Gene Barry are excellent in Harvey Fierstein's masterpiece and winner of the 1983 Tony for Best Musical!

The people who felt betrayed when Linda Eder covered several pop songs on 2002's Gold will be relieved that her follow-up, Broadway My Way, is a return to the Great White Way. As if to prove that she isn't limited to either the songs of Frank Wildhorn or ballads, Eder tackles some well-known show tunes. The ballads tend to be overwrought, so it's best to look for the uptempo numbers. The singer's take on "Some People" is technically fine but so va-va-voom showbiz that it lacks the deranged edge that makes the song so compellingly dramatic. Things work a lot better on "I Am What I Am": while Eder doesn't take it to the top (or rather over the top), this is as close as she gets to Mermanizing a number. Elsewhere, "Don't Rain on My Parade" (immortalized by Streisand) and "Man of La Mancha" are appropriately brassy and triumphant, with Eder roaring her way through both songs. Fans of both Eder and Wildhorn should note that the singer reprises her Svengali's "Gold," the title track from her previous album, and an excerpt from his long-in-the-works Camille Claudel. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Linda Eder - Great Voice.......2007-07-06

This lady has one great voice. She can certainly sell a song. My only reservation about her is that she's a bit cocky. I think she could use some humility.

5 out of 5 stars Not a voice.......an instrument.......2007-02-17

Unbelievable breath control, phrasing, and style. My 10 yr. old Granddaughter who heretofore has listened and loved the usual rap
and hip-hop, heard me playing this disc and begged me to buy her
one........and I did, and she plays it all the time, and to her
friends. Linda Eder exceeds the Streisand mystique by far.

5 out of 5 stars the best female singer of the great american standards........2006-07-24

i am turning 60 years old this year. i went to my 1st.broadway
musical in 1960. over the years i have had the honor to see
almost all of the giants of american song, garland, streisand,
patti lupone, lena horne, betty buckley, barbaracook etc. in
"broadway, my way" linda eder cements her place as the best of the best. from an anthem like "i am what i am" to the lovely
"on the street where you live" captures you body and soul.
i loved this album, and don't ever miss a chance to see her live. JOHN POWER

5 out of 5 stars The powerful and beautiful voice of Linda Elder.......2006-02-23

A great selection of songs. Tremendous amount of energy in Linda's voice. I just love it.

5 out of 5 stars Linda Eder shines with her Broadway album.......2006-02-18

Wow! Linda Eder has an outstanding voice. She sells Broadway in the styles of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. After hearing this you will want more.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

William Orbit's Pieces in a Modern Style is an ambient album that rejigs 11 works by classical composers in a particularly tacky fashion. Even though Orbit has proved his mettle as an innovative and exciting producer for others--Blur's 13 and Madonna's Ray of Light--this is an ungainly meeting of the sublime and the absurd that, frankly, doesn't work. Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings," Ludwig van Beethoven's "Triple Concerto," Henryk Gorecki's "Piece in the Old Style I," and Antonio Vivaldi's "L'Inverno" are four that unfortunately meet their maker in a crude pileup of flat, belching synths and wallpaper flourishes. If he had combined live instrumentation with a playful reverence for the arcane glories of the past, perhaps he could have managed to make reality out of that most elusive of notions: experimental music that actually sells. However, Orbit fails to do anything more than resemble a second-rate Vangelis. --Maxine Kabuubi

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding. A classic........2007-06-06

I have been working in electronic music for almost 20 years years. I have a massive library of music for almost any reason, mood and itch. Tonight, I am taking the five minutes to stop and write how unique, amazing and consistently refreshing this album is everytime I go back to it since the day it was released.

Highly Melodic, very electronic and overall lacking the percussive elements most have come to know when listening to Orbit.

Much more sophisticated than the average listener might appreciate.Consider it a staple for anyone serious about electronic music.

I believe anyone rating this poorly is looking for a pop appeal that you just won't find here, thankfully.

I don't know who Maxine Kubabi is. She's certainly untitled to her opinion. An "ungainly meeting of the sublime and the absurd?" What a sublimely empty and inadequate statement.

You have to know something about a genre before you can be an effective critic inside it. You should be able to specify why you don't like something in some detail, rather than resort to crabby nebulousities ... that's greasy kid stuff.

What Orbit has done is to realize some old, familiar works in an electronic medium, using smooth and musical strokes. He's taken many big chances. Some of them worked out well, others not as well as one might hope. But he deserves kudos for taking a risk and for making some of it work.

Why would anyone who *likes* electronic music complain that it doesn't have live instrumentation? That's like complaining that jazz has no rock and roll in it. "Reverence"? "Second rate Vangelis"? so: you were disappointed that Orbit didn't create more of the kind of schmaltz you personally like. Yanni, anyone?

For those who actually like electronic music, and like Beethoven's Opus 132, please, give that track a listen. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars This is incredible. Arrogant but incredible.......2006-05-26

I have been a fan William Orbit since Water from a vine leaf and I have to admit while this ins't exactly a electronica per se it is still amazing to see what he has done with our classics. The listening experience depends solely on the listener. More ambient than anything else I have heard though.

Recommended for William orbit and curious georges

4 out of 5 stars not a rave.......2006-02-04

If you're looking for something to pop in late at night to dance to...this is not the album. This album is eery and some of it is painful. It's not full of upbeat electronics like originally thought it would be. But, I love it. It's great to listen to while just thinking...relaxing...reading...it's beautiful.

4 out of 5 stars Pieces in a peaceful style........2005-11-28

Being a fan of ambient and electronica for some time, I decided to give this a try. I can understand how some may simply hear this as a cheesy reworking of the classics, just a man and his keyboard, but it's really much deeper than that if you just sit and listen. I suggest not comparing to the originals as much as enjoying what these pieces are themselves. A few tracks do lag, and there are quiet spots, but as a whole I find "Pieces In A Modern Style" to be almost hypnotic, and as I said in my review title, rather peaceful. The tracks I prefer the most are "Adiago For Strings", "Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo", "L'Inverno", and the music-box sounding "Triple Concerto". However the others are fine as well. I say, if you think you might like this, you probably will. It's well worth the used price if nothing else.

4 out of 5 stars Byron Cage=True Praise and Worship.......2005-11-11

Listening to Cage's album, u get a sense of the old and new. If you're looking for another great gospel CD to add to your collection then look no further. All the songs were great. There isn't one that I didn't like. My favorites are Magnify, There is a name, That's what you are to me, It is to you, Glory to your name and never too busy. Everyone should listen to Never Too Busy. In this song, he talks about never being too busy to take time out and give God his praise.

4 out of 5 stars THE PRINCE OF PRAISE.......2005-10-20

NOW YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING WHY I ONLY GAVE HIM 4 STARS. I GAVE HIM 4 STARS BECUASE I THINK THAT AT THE END OF THE ALBUM ITS GETS A LITTLE WEAK. I WASNT LIKE THE BEGINNING OF THE CD WHERE THE SPIRIT IS. I THINK THAT HE COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING BETTER. ANYWAYS. OTHER THAN THAT THIS CD IS AWESOME. I LOVE IT. I COULDNT WAIT TO GET IT AND NOW THAT I HAVE IT. I AM BLESS. THIS CD IS AWESOME. EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE THIS THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2005-08-14

Byron Cage has long been one of my favorites, but this project takes it to a new level. Can you not smell the Kurt Carr "stank" on this project? The combination of the two artist is almost genius. I love this project and continue to use it over and over for material for my group at church. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD. You will not be dissappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Such a Blessing.......2005-07-26

This CD is so awesome. From beginning to end you feel the anointing and the presence of God. This is the perfect praise and worship CD. If you want to be ushered into the presence of God, listen to this CD. My favorite cut is Psalm 3, followed by There is a Name. I highly recommend this CD to everyone who wants to praise God for who He is in his or her life.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Epic, true heavy metal!.......2007-06-27

Get this, crank it up and prepare to scream along. Catchy, simple-yet-clever songs with Sean Peck's best vocal performance to date. Also, an epic storyline that puts a slight sci-fi twist on the book of Revalations. Fave songs include but are not limited to "I Am The King," "Abomination," and "Born from Blood."

5 out of 5 stars Hell is Unleashed!!!!.......2007-06-15

Wow!!! This album is fow Judas Priest should sound today!!! This album, tells the story of the Apocalypse through the eyes of Sean Peck, possibly the greatest vocalist in metal today. Great album layout too. This is my pick for album of the year. Buy or Burn in Hell!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Hell has been destroyed!!.......2007-06-04

Cage is back and put Hell on a slow simmer!, they pick up where they left off..."Darker Than Black" this easily rates right up there. The title tune being the best you won't be disappointed with the other tracks. If you thought you had to leave the US for some good metal...know now you can stay in the good 'ole US of A, with this San Diego band. They can give all those want-to-be-metal bands a lesson in REAL METAL. Sean Peck has got to be the best power vocalist of the 21 century, he has the range and power that has not been heard since Rob Halford back in the "Sad Wings of Destiny" days. The twin guitar attack of Anthony McGinnis & Dave Garcia is far better than Tipton-Downning of today. If you are a true Metal Head you should add this CD to your collection today along with "Unveiled, Astrology and of course "Darker Than Black".

1 out of 5 stars You'll be disappointed.......2006-09-02

Not the original artists. Very weak versions of beloved songs by marginal to downright bad vocalists.

5 out of 5 stars Pretty good musical mix.......2006-03-10

Lots of great and clear vocals. I was looking for a musical mix and this has a nice sampling of many major songs but also some more recent stuff. I haven't purchased an import before but I would do it again if the opportunity presented itself. It is somewhat annoying to have three cds when I think it could have fit onto two. Still, more than I have complaints, I have compliments about it.

There aren't many directors with the talent--or nerve--to compose and play the music for their films (although creepmeister John Carpenter comes to mind), and none have done it more artfully than Mike Figgis on Leaving Las Vegas. Though Figgis was nominated for both writing and directing Oscars (and Nicolas Cage won one for Best Actor) for the 1995 film, listening to his subdued, moody jazz (punctuated by vocal standard renditions by Sting and Don Henley) one can't help feeling that his music was unfairly overlooked. Smokey and mournful, it plays against the Vegas musical stereotype by underscoring the loneliness at the heart of Sin City. --Jerry McCulley

As much as I love the movie Leaving Las Vegas, I refuse to buy it if "Lonely Teardrops" is not on the soundtrack.

This is terrible that the key song in the sound track by Michael McDonald - Lonely Tear Drops is missing??
Is there another version

If you're looking for Michael MacDonald's "Lonely Teardrops," it' ain't on here. Buy "Live At The Beacon." It's on there.

3 out of 5 stars What Happened.......2000-02-08

The soundtrack for Leaving Las Vegas was very good, Mike Figgis is an excellent conducter of the boozy feel of moments better left without lyrics. However, I cannot in good conscience give the soundtrack a higher rating, as the absence of the Michael McDonald version of "Lonely Teardrops", used twice in the film to great effect, is not available anywhere, I presume, as I've been unable to track it down. WHY? This song is incredible, and well worth the price of admission. Sting and Don Henley not withstanding, they both are very good, but the absence of Mike on the soundtrack is a Major letdown....if anyone knows how to get a copy of the "Lonely Teardrops" version on this movie please let me know...Buk218@aol.com

4 out of 5 stars Graet Soundtrack, but Mike Figgis BLEW IT...........2000-02-01

This is one of the better soundtracks of a rather great movie, with only one problem. The most powerful song of the movie, "Lonely Teardrops", re-made by Michael McDonald, is somehow missing from the soundtrack... Not only is this the most powerful song in the movie, but it is the most memorable. This leaves one to ask how it could have been left out of the soundtrack, and why Mike Figgis BLEW IT...
