On the Good Ship Lollipop
Editorial Reviews

The good humor and musical depth of veteran a cappella outfit the Persuasions make On the Good Ship Lollipop an essential kids'-music release. By way of exquisite vocalizing and well-placed asides, the quintet breathes new life into chestnuts such as "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?" and "Teddy Bears' Picnic" while introducing a new song (producer Leib Ostrow's "A Cappella Fellas") and shedding light on the lesser-known gems "My Daddy Do, Too" and "I'm So Glad (I've Got Skin)." Finally, they turn "On Top of Spaghetti" into a doo-wop ballad classic as indelible as "In the Still of the Nite." A perfect addition to the grownup-friendly Music for Little People catalog, which also includes albums by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Los Lobos. --Rickey Wright --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
From Parents' Choice®
The Persuasions, premiere a cappella soulsters since 1961, turn out a delightful first children's album and bring their distinctive harmonies and a joyful and loving spirit to new children's songs and classics. Baritone lead singer Jerry Lawson, tenor "Sweet" Joe Russell, bass Jimmy Hayes, tenor Jayotis Washington and baritone Bernard "B.J." Jones (a former Drifter) are joined by The Lollipop Kids Chorus-also a cappella. The result is tender enchantment. Hayes' deep lead vocal is... read more --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Children's music an adult can love.......2007-04-04
This CD is a unique blend of child friendly content and adult friendly presentation. Filled with songs your kids will recognize and sing along to, but won't make you cringe if they insist on an endless repeat during your next road trip. No squeaky character voices, no product placement, no objectionable content, just straight forward all male acappella talent. It's so good you'll find yourself singing along to the CD and humming the tunes to yourself when your alone.
good wake-up singalong.......2006-03-30
we love to wake up to this one. it has doowop/acapella versions of some classic children's songs.
a couple of the songs are kind of annoying after, say, the third go-around (shoo-fly, doggie in the window) but overall it's a fun collection.
I'm So Glad!.......2006-01-04
"I'm So Glad" is one of many catchy tunes on The Goodship Lollipop. This tune is catching on around the country thanks to Noggin & Jack's Big Music Show. Jerry Lawson, former lead singer of the Persuasions debuts his new group "Jerry Lawson & Talk of The Town" on this wonderful new kid's show. You can learn more about this fabulous a cappella group at www.jerrylawson.biz -They've got lots more music geared for folks of all ages. Not to be missed!
Eureka! the coolest song in rotation on Noggin today (I'm So Glad).......2005-11-19
After much unsuccessful searching for anything by "Jerry Lawson & The Talk of the Town" as they're credited by Noggin (and Noggin's failure to respond to my emails) in order to find "I'm So Glad" -- a song my son ADORES -- I finally stumbled onto the Persuasions. I don't know if it's a different group of a capella singers accompanying Lawson from the singers in the Noggin video, but the song is the same and sounds terrific.
I'm so glad -- that the Noggin exposure led me to this whole CD and to discover this group -- I'll definitely be getting some of their other CDs as well!
Winter doldrums? This will cheer the entire family!.......2004-01-11
Not only do I own this wonderful CD, I've purchased it for family members and friends of all ages. The Persuasions give new life to old favorites. My "inner child" never tires of listening to these songs and my adult self enjoys the excellent a cappella collection! It would make a great gift for any family going on a car trip!

GET OUT OF A BAD MOOD!!!!!!!.......2006-01-17
THIS CD PUTS A SMILE ON MY FACE EVERYTIME I HEAR IT! JUDY KAYE IS A MOST UNDERUTILIZED TALENT ON THE BROADWAY SCENE, AND THIS CD PROVES IT. CLICK THIS RECORDING INTO YOUR CART THIS INSTANT!
Pure Energy.......2000-09-17
What an incredible recording! What energy, what a fantastic voice! The songs, many of which are rarely recorded, are presented in a wonderful upbeat and stylish mood. It's almost impossible not to love this CD. Her tributes to the greats of the silver screen are very witty and yet not overly campy. Judy manages to almost one up Carmen Miranda, with her Carmen Tribute. I must say I never really liked the song "Thanks alot, but no thanks" until I heard Judy's version. This CD will leave you exhausted but with lots of happy memories. It will also leave you wishing that Judy Kaye recorded more often!!

Oldest CD and every song is on the bigger sets........2001-09-11
Every song on this compilation CD is in the 60 song, 3 CD box set, "Stand Up and Cheer". So there's not much point in buying it...
Especially since this is the oldest Shirley Temple CD of all, and the sound clarity usually gets better, as computer technology advances and people care more and more about restoring old recordings to their ORIGINAL sound quality.

Customer Reviews:
Nice try. Time to quit........2003-09-03
Sounds like it was recorded in a 55 gallon drum. The artist was known for squeaking her voice while singing. However in this albumn, the squeaking is exaggerated and sounds phony. Too bad because this albumn has some songs that are hard to get elsewhere. I realize this albumn was recorded in 1983 and I did listen to samples before buying. I blamed the poor quality of sound on my speakers and the samples were too short to get a good feel for the sound. Her words to the music are hard to understand because the orchestra overplays her. A great artist from the past whose time was over before this recording was made.
