I'm glad I ignored the critical pans of this, Peggy's last recording session. Indeed, she does sound older than her 72 years, and neither the breath support nor the enveloping breathiness are there any longer. The lyrics are delivered almost "sotte voce"--an expiring sigh but with dead-on pitch and communicative story-telling. Don't come to this recording with preconceptions about how Peggy Lee "should" sound, and you'll discover some compelling revisions and revelations. Finally, with Mike Renzi on piano (Mel Torme was right--no other accompanist can touch him), it's virtually impossible to go wrong.

(As for the programming of "Manana" in the age of political correctness, Peg takes to the song with such relish you'd have to be bloodless to object.)

First thing yes Peggy's voice had definitely deepened by the time she recorded this cd, i think this is a wonderful cd, the musicians are great and Peggy delivers some moving treatments on some of these songs, i do wished they had recorded Peggy live because i heard her sing in 1994 and she sounded wonderful!! still this is needed to hear the lady's final moments......

I really enjoy Peggy Lee, but I would encourage people to buy an earlier CD if they want to hear her at her best. These recordings are among her last and, unfortunately, they sound like it. She mumbles a lot and most of them she sounds barely awake and definitely not on key. In the the rare moments when she is animated, she is hardly recognizable as the Peggy Lee of years earlier. Also, the orchestration is virtually elevator music . Very depressing.

If I'm not mistaken, this was Miss Lee's final recording. Unfortunately, her performance is not memorable and the sound quality of the disc is terrible. Anyone curious about Miss Lee's latter day releases would do better with any of the following:

'Mirrors' (1975, 3.5 stars)
'Love Held Lightly' (recorded 1988, 3.5 stars)
'Miss Peggy Lee Sings The Blues' (1988, 3 stars)
'There'll Be Another Spring' (1990, 3.5 stars)

All are out-of-print at this time, but look for used copies or wait for the inevitable(?) reissues. You won't be sorry.

In this day and age of over-produced female singers constantly "auditioning" for us, the ease and class of Peggy Lee's understated elegance is really refreshing. Like so many of her other albums, this one doesn't disappoint. (Diana Krall has borrowed Peggy's "S'wonderful", and should do the same with Lee's version of "I'm Going To Laugh You Right Out of My Life", from another beautiful album). Meantime, buy "Moments"!!

The album that captures Kilgore with her Portland trio. And one of her very best, which is definitely saying something. This album has somewhat more contemporary
jazz backing (esp. harmonies) than her work with 'neo-trads' like Hal Smith or John Sheridan, or even somewhat similar Keith Ingram albums on Jump. But no less
compelling-- very fine playing, & her voice in top form I think. If you like bright voiced jazz vocals akin to Maxine Sullivan, or say would like to hear a more jazz Doris Day, check this out!

    This CD is a must have! Especially for those who have been in a relationship or two. Carol's voice is as Jill Scott says "Chocolate Velvet." It truly is Sweet, Rich and Smooth. Her range is incredible, and her personality is, as her voice. You must see her live, you WILL enjoy yourself immensley! She is by far a Classy yet Soultry Act.

    I became aware of Carol Riddick while she was performing as one of Jill Scott's backing vocalists - the other was Vivian Green. During a concert, Jill announced that both ladies were working on solo ventures so I stayed on the lookout for their debut albums and bought MOMENTS LIKE THIS without having heard any tracks because I so wanted to support Carol.

    Carol has a really warm tone to her voice and either wrote or co-wrote all of the songs and coupled with the pretty musical arrangements created one of the best neo-soul albums I've purchased this year!

    All of the tracks are beautiful but the ones that really stand out to me are: BELIEVE IN ME, YOU BETTER NOT HURT ME; A BETTER ME; CONFUSED; MOMENTS LIKE THIS & FLIRTATIOUS.

    I hope that through positive word of mouth, more people can learn about this talented new songstress and enjoy her music.

    I wish I could give this cd more stars....Oh, I guess I can 10 stars. Carol Riddrick "Moment Like This" is one of my favorite cd's right now 2007 Love every single track. I first notice this wonderful artist featured on Larry Gold's and Musiq's cd. And then caught her live singing background for Jill Scott. I knew once the cd was released it was going to be placed in my collection. Please! if you love beautiful lyrics, and a superb soulful voice don't sleep on this one.

    I've been intrigued by this young lady's voice ever since I first heard her on Musiq's Juslisen album. Her vocals on the song "Bestfriend" captivated me. I found myself replaying her parts over and over just to hear this beautiful songbird's vocals. Musiq then released "Soulstar" and the intro, also by the same name, featured this amazing voice yet again who clearly stole the spotlight with the chorus. I lost this CD only to purchase it again simply to hear this one song. So some years later, I stumbled upon her page on myspace, heard a few tracks and immediately purchased the album. Wow! Carol's voice is as powerful as it is soothing. There's not a track that I skip through. And although her talent is clearly levels beyond what we've heard from others in countless years, the material of the album stands out as well. I've heard too many artists with nice voices fail because their material isn't up to par. Carol exceeds expectations on every level and has definitely raised the bar for our generation of soul singers. I plan to purchase about 10 more copies and pass them out as gifts!

    Go Carol!!!! Finally GOOD music is BACK!

        Anything Charlie sets his fingers to are music to my ears. He can do no wrong! The guitar is easy on the ears and the way Byrd plays that's better than best. It's also nice to hear the "golden oldies".
