Night Club
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The piano-playing singer Patricia Barber has quite a pearl of 12 standards on Nightclub with three stellar trios, including three tracks with Charlie Hunter's eight-string guitar. The incomparable bassist Marc Johnson also adds supple support on a few tunes and has a very tasty solo on "Yesterdays." And speaking of soloing, because Barber's vocal phrasing, rhythm, and timbre are so unique, it's easy to overlook her brilliant improvisations on piano. Despite their surface similarities, Barber seems worlds apart from Diana Krall in her presentation. Putting out an album of standards after the ultrahip Modern Cool challenges Barber with a different concept, rather than an attempt to capitalize on the tremendous success of other mainstream jazz vocalists (Krall included). In fact, if there's a problem here, it's that the sardonic wit displayed on Barber's previous releases is missing. On the other hand, it's mightily refreshing to report that a great American jazz singer who established herself on her own material has succeeded at an album of standard tunes. It's a chain of events that most vocalists can't claim. On Nightclub, Barber creates a dark, smoky atmosphere where, like any good impressionistic artist, she brings listeners into her world and lets them enjoy art from her side of the creative pane. Quite an accomplishment. --Mark A. Ruffin
From Jazziz
Being the daughter of Glenn Miller Orchestra-veteran-saxophonist Floyd "Shim" Barber, it's safe to say Patricia Barber was born with jazz in her blood. The sultry vocalist/pianist has released only six albums during a 20-year career, yet those albums chart an ever-growing critical and commercial acclaim. Barber's 1994 release Café Blue led to her winning the "Female Vocalist/Talent Deserving Wider Recognition" category in the 1995 Down Beat International Critics Poll. Her '98 album Modern... read more

One can never accuse the Chemical Brothers of consistency. We Are the Night continues their eclectic electronica approach even though the big-beat groove of the title track remains their digital calling card. Spotted with a minimalist keyboard pattern, vocal non sequiturs, and sampled sound effects, the infectious groove of "We Are the Night" eventually evolves into the monotone-chanted dance chorus of "We are the night skies/We are the bright lies," recalling Brian Eno circa Here Come the Warm Jets. However, for every catchy electro-dance, there's a tune that leaves you scratching your head. What to make of the novelty song "The Salmon Dance" is anybody's guess, though you might find some illumination in a salmon recipe on their Web site. With fractured nursery-rhyme lyrics that are sung like an off-color Sesame Street rap, it will drive you up the wall--or at least toward the skip button. Then there's Midlake singing the trancey ballad "The Pills Won't Help You Now," making the Chemical Brothers sound like a sci-fi version of Coldplay. Retro-analog synthesizers dominate, with the electro-grooves of "Das Spiegel," "Burst Generator," and "Saturate," which builds on a Kraftwerk-forged metal framework coupled with storming sampled drums. The circuits of '70s techno-pop artist the Normal are re-soldered on "Do It Again." With Ali Love singing the title-track chorus, it's built to be a summertime anthem akin to Tag Team's "Whoomp! (There It Is)," albeit robotically chilled. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Modern midnight album.......2007-07-17
I have no idea what the Chemical Brothers are doing in "We Are The Night."
Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Though some of their songs simply don't mesh together well, the British electronic duo do a pretty fair job with their grimy acid beats and crazy acid-alien-spy style. And it's worth the price just to hear their delicious collaborations with Midlake and the Klaxons.
It opens with a strange rumbling grunting sound, like a robot hellhound sniffing out a trail. Then we get some mournful voices telling us that "there's no path to follow."
Oh, forget that. The action begins in the spaceship hums, electronic twiddlings (as if from a control panel), and a heavy driving beat that blossoms into a solid, danceable tune speckled with samples. It ends up sounding like James Bond on acid, and no, that is not a bad thing at all.
From there, the Chemical Brothers collaborate with the Klaxons in the eerie, clattery "All Rights Reserved," and launch into a swirl of equally energetic songs: tribal electrobeats, retro fuzz pop, eruptions of tornado synth in fun electropop, tightly woven beats, and a dense weaving of keyboard and ringing guitar. It finishes on a high note with "The Pills Won't Help You Know," a collaboration with Midlake -- a dreamy, hazy, fuzzy, sunny little tune that is drowsily winning.
In a nutshell, "We Are the Night" sounds like the soundtrack to a psychedelic spy caper, with a few aliens thrown in for good measure. The Chemical Brothers has their lax moments -- "The Salmon Dance" with Fatlip is a tumble down the stairs -- but the majority of the songs achieve just what they're meant to.
There's some drum machines and electric guitars cycling in there. But most of it is some really earthy acid beats -- sharp and flexible, synth lashings, and a few that are soft little stretches of gentle, pastoral tinkliness. They also weave some songs with sci-fi-ish samples, like what sounds like alarms going off, and a spaceship landing.
And they avoid the typical techno trap of just taking a beat and repeating it endlessly. To keep the dancefloor beats and tribal stuff from sounding like your average boring techno, they twist it into ripples, trickles, fuzz, static squeals and some brilliantly eerie vocals ("We are the nighttime/we are the bright eyes/we are the right time...").
If there's a real problem with "We Are the Night," it's that the album isn't very cohesive. Several of the songs have the same feel, but most of the collaborations don't fit in with the pure Chemical Brothers stuff. I'm the first to admit a deep love for "The Pills Won't Help You Know," but it doesn't fit.
The Chemical Brothers trip over their own feet occasionally, but despite some songs not fitting in, it still is a pretty decent electronic album. Do it again.

A very Funny (Stupid) Comedy.......2007-03-26
My wife and I have watched this movie hundreds of time and we still laugh throughout. It a very funny (yet dumb) comedy.
A great Movie Soundtrack.......2007-02-03
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and knew I needed to purchase the accompanying motion picture soundtrack that features 14 great songs, 11 being on the movie and 3 remixes and additions. 'A Night At The Roxbury' is a great movie with a comedic twist. But there is no comedy attached to this massive soundtrack. The feature of the movie was "What is Love" which was the 7" Mix by Haddaway. The song is one of the strongest suits on this album. You have the well know favourites in this album like 'Bamboogie', 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy', 'Be My Lover'. The well known singers La Bouche and Amber which made the techno scene rock in the 90's are featured with quality styled songs.
The last song on this album is the slowest song on the album but a real gorgeous song to listen to; Tamia's 'Careless Whisper'. If you were a fan of the movie, you will by far and away enjoy the soundtrack. So buy the album and add it to your collection. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't.
Song not featured on album.......2006-03-26
If you want to know what that dance song is thats playing while the brothers are arguing in traffic its called "nightmare" and is by Brain Bug. i know alot of poeple who wanted the soundtrack specifically for that song and were bummed to find out it was'nt on there.
Never get tired of this soundtrack!.......2005-10-30
I agree this soundtrack has such great material, you can play it every now and then and soon you want to start dancing! Little can I say about the movie, to me it was just "OK", though the best parts are those with the Butami brothers dancing, joking around and of course the music at The Roxbury in the background! If you like House/Disco Music, this CD is a must...!
Song from movie not included!.......2005-07-18
I loved the movie and make it a point of showing it to all my friends. The Cd is fantastic, although it doesn't have that really cool sounding song that is playing while the Butabi's are gridlocked in traffic on the freeway I think. Does anyone know what the name of the song is or the artist? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

An Unforgettable Live Album.......2007-04-17
This album is a priceless gem that you will treasure forever! Sam Cooke metaphorically rolls up his sleeves and really works up a sweat in this amazing live concert at the Harlem Square Club, giving an earthy, gritty performance that is spellbinding. Sam's delivery crackles with raw energy! He belts out the songs with an emotional intensity and sense of urgency that whips his audience into euphoric frenzy.
Some favourite, well-loved songs (such as "Cupid," "Chain Gang," "Bring it on Home to Me," etc.) have been thumpingly and effectively re-worked to give them an edginess which causes the temperature to soar in that highly charged, festive atmosphere.
You can feel the electricity in the air! Sam teases and cajoles an attentive and adoring audience who eagerly comply with the call to party. The tempo intensifies and reaches a crescendo at the end of a totally exhilarating and riveting musical experience!
One of the greatest live performances.......2007-01-12
Sam Cooke delivers an unbelievable performance in this one. When I first got it, it was difficult for me to appreciate this live album. But as time passed by, the more it grew on me. And now, it's truly one of my favorite albums. Any soul music fan has to have this one.
The way Sam Cooke works the crowd is a thing of beauty. Those people that attended this performance are some lucky folks. He gives it his all and the crowd appreciates it. My personal favorite was "Chain Gang" because of the way he works the crowd at the end and because his voice is just electrifying with his "oh yeah" screams. Sam Cooke may not be my favorite artist but I believe he's the greatest artist of all-time. This record is one of the many testaments of that.
ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER!.......2006-11-21
This is soul at its very best! No matter how many times I listen to this album, I NEVER get tired of it. Sam Cooke went on to inspire thousands of musicians and, after hearing this album, you'll know why. Since the new movie "Ali," starring Will Smith, has been released on DVD and VHS, a lot of people wonder about the beginning where the actor portraying Sam Cooke is performing. Well, this recording is exactly where they got the idea for the beginning of the film.
Of course, my favorite is "Bring It On Home To Me." Sam delivers his music with all the fervor of a gospel sermon and beat of a pop/doo wop song. Then, there are also the usual hits, from "Cupid" to "Twistin' The Night Away."
If you're looking for a soul album to start a collection, this IS the ONE!!! It'll keep you moving!!! The sound is no longer mono, making it all the more enjoyable. The fact that Sam could get the place jumpin' is exactly why he was such a great entertainer. You can feel the high energy and the fun of that evening back in 1963 oozing out of the stereo every time you listen to this album. James Brown may be the Godfather of soul, but Sam Cooke is the father!!!
should get more than 5 stars!.......2006-08-19
This is the live album to outdo all other live albums. I am a head banging, rock and roller, guitar nut and this is still the best live album ever!
The main reason that it is great is b/c Sam Cooke works the audience. The cd builds up steam as the songs go by. This is a snowball rolling down a hill that gets bigger and bigger.
He talks to the audience, works the ladies, entices the men, pumps up his band, etc. The songs are almost a "best of" situation. Chain gang, having a party, twisting are all awesome!
You know how great the cd is? The recording has serious limitations. There are no highs and no lows. Horns, guitar, bass, drums are all mixed way towards the back but Cooke's singing and talking are way towards the front. It does not matter and should not influence anyone's listening pleasure.
A great comparison is to Otis Redding live at the Whiskey a Go Go. That is a good concert, fantastic sound recording and the band seriously rocks. This blows that away.
This is not only the best concert cd but also, it is obvious how other entertainers and djs modeled themselves afer Sam Cooke's style.
What a shame that this tremendous performer died in his prime.
Whoever reads this take note...I am no soul music fanatic. I am a Lez Zep. Who, Nirvana, guitarnut type of guy. THAT is how powerful that this work is b/c it most definetly rocks more than "live at leeds", "get your ya yas out", "Song remains the same", etc.
BEST LIVE RECORD EVER.......2006-08-18
I agree with Mr. Sullivan about who cares about some specific sounds at a live performance,... its raw, sweety, aggressive, compasionate, ITS ROCK AND ROLL!! ....today's new soul artist should buy this CD, take notes, and learn from it,.. (r&b singers are too cheezy now...) Listening to this CD, you are going back when the male soul singers were real men,.. no fakes like today's singers who just want to show off high vocal ranges like a bad imitator of Eddy Valen on the guitar. This Live show does not have any pyrotechnics,...and thats why I love it,.. Sam Cooke is by far my favorite soul singer... (I dont have nothing else to say,... so BUY IT NOW!)

Sheryl Crow's proper debut--an earlier, slicker record was scrapped in favor of Tuesday Night--occasionally reaches too far in attempting Significance, as when the album opens by name-checking Aldous Huxley. Usually, though, Crow and her band of L.A. session and singer/songwriter collaborators strike just the right tone. The "Stuck in the Middle with You" homage of "All I Wanna Do," the clanking guitar riff of "Can't Cry Anymore," and the funky threat of "What I Can Do for You" meld perfectly with the lyrics, resulting in a peak of mainstream pop-rock. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
Thirty Seconds is still too much.......2006-09-06
Let's face it folks this is not a rock album that everyone believes it is. I will start by saying I didn't play the 30 second snippet for "All I Want To Do" because I knew it was already a lost cause, the rest were all just as bad. There are only 2 songs that may be a little bit o.k. and they are "Can't Cry Anymore", and "We Do What We Can". I just feel that this was a pop album all the way even though it has a rock edge don't be decieved. I don't know what she's like, or anything like that, but I do know she's beautiful, but while talented it's not the music I seek to listen to.
Might have been her best.......2006-06-20
I have a couple of Miss Crows albums and this I think was the best one.
You get the sense that there was a point to prove with the range of vocal challenges she was set.
'Leaving Las Vagas', 'What I could do for you', 'Run baby run'
all very different in tone and pace. Heavy rips and deep almost gravelly voice at times can give you the impression that she really enjoyed singing the songs and to me that has always enhanced my enjoyment.
Don't miss this one, it was Sheryl at her very best with everything to prove and heart and soul were truely invested.
Sheryl Crow did not write the hits.......2006-03-16
A tremendous talent, Kevin Gilbert, wrote songs " All I want to Do" and "Leaving Las Vegas"..Sheryl did not..
Actually, the series of demos, intended for her debut released all sucked pretty badly and her record company was online to shelve her.
Her producer, Patrick Leonard had worked with Kevin in the past, and believed that he, along with a few top L.A. musicians, could resurrect Crowes failed attempts....hence the Tuesday Night Music Club was born.
The group would basically meet on Tuesdays, drink, write and rewrite tunes for Leonard and Crow.
After all was said and done Sheryl basically dumped her writing pals a very short time before touring on the heels of a very sucessful debut cd called "The Tuesday Night Music Club" she denies any writing involvement with Gilbert or anybody else.
When Kevin Gilbert is mentioned in any interview Crow has had...she goes cold and changes the subject.....she makes the music business smell really bad.
You should check out Kevin Gilberts discography and also got to www.kevingilbert.com and read about this talented man..you will hear the real talent....Rest In Peace Kevin.
Holds up pretty well still .......2006-02-11
This album made the one-time Michael Jackson road guitarist a household name, landing 3 singles in the Top 40 and winning Crow a Grammy. While it's obvious this wasn't REALLY the best thing to come out in 1993, it still sounds surprisingly decent after more than 10 years.
Crow's pop trades heavily on her voice but there are a few interesting twists, such as the slightly jazzy arrangement of "We Do What We Can", a self-tribute to the group of musicians that met with Crow on Tuesdays during the "lean years". (They inspired the title for the album).
HIGHLIGHTS:
The opening lyric "She was born in November,1963/on the day that Aldous Huxley died" sets the stage for the heroine in "Run, Baby, Run", a woman who can't commit. Single "Strong Enough" is another standout as she calls out for a lover who can see through her faults ("When I'm broken down and I can't stand/Will you be strong enough to be my man?") including her own insecurity ("Lie to me/I promise I'll believe...but please, don't leave"). Zippy stream of consciousness piece "All I Wanna Do" sets a finely detailed character study of bar patrons against a catchy riff that remains a good listen. Moody jazz-kissed "We Do What We Can" is also one of the better ones here as musicians commiserate over the death of modern jazz and their own inferior abilities while listening to Stan Kenton.
LOWS:
The album rises a bit above average less from its large number of apexes than because it has few valleys. There are two, though: despite an interesting arrangement musically, the incessant "Why should I?" screeched by Crow render "Solidify" a must-skip. "The Na-Na Song" is a kind of rap/pop straining for relevancy with such sentiments as "Billy Jean,Burger King, chauvinist pig pen/U.S. Army only wants a few straight men". The name derives from its "na na na na" chorus. Ack..
BOTTOM LINE:
It won't floor you but it's darn consistent. Probably still her finest effort overall.
3 1/2 stars
A very Good Debut album.......2006-01-25
Sheryl Crow has become one of my favorite artists. Several of my favorite songs appear on this album.
Run, Baby Run opens the album in good form.
Leaving Las Vegas is next.
Strong Enough is probably my favorite song by Sheryl ever. I love the acoustic guitar.
All I Wanna Do turned out to be a major hit for her and probably launched the career.
I Shall Believe is another great song.
This is a must for any fan of Sheryl Crows'

While they aren't the first to do so, Camp Lo's Sonny Cheeba and Geechie Suede make a direct appeal from hip-hop's current generation back to the blaxploitation era on Uptown Saturday Night, which recrafts the up-tempo, party atmosphere of the swinging 1970s, resplendent in the musical and cultural iconography of Harlem- and Bronx-style blaxploitation. Even for listeners who never watched Shaft, Superfly, or The Mack, Camp Lo's songs carry themselves with a cool air of slick styles. As critics have noted, Cheeba and Suede's lyrics are often nonrhyming barrages of key blaxploitation terminology that--read conventionally--actually make no sense, but their spitfire pacing makes up in style what their verses lack in content (which is actually a pretty good description of blaxploitation, if you think about it). Much credit needs to go to producer Ski (who was also the musical mastermind behind Jay Z's impressive debut, Reasonable Doubt), who shows a smart sampling ear with bubbly pop tracks that are infectious enough to rock the party while still appealing to hardcore hip-hop heads. --Oliver Wang

ONE OF BEST HIP HOP CDS EVER PUT TOGETHER.......2007-07-06
Let me give you some background. I brought this cd back in 98 around the time they first dropped. It was a classic then, and it still holds up now. This cd is so unique it's ridiculous. Nobody else sounds like camplo, 10 years running. For those that don't know the new album drops the 24th of this month, I heard the black hollywood track off of it, and it's crazy. Anybody who claims to be a hip hop head and don't have this album or never heard of them, please take they hip hop card cause they lying to us. Camp Lo is hip hop in this crazy a** rap world we in now. Ski producing the new album like he did with uptown, "I get krystal carrington ice rock griddy"
Original Style from Da Bronx !!!.......2007-06-25
This duo is from da Bronx (NYC) and it is composed by 2 rappers :Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede.
Cheeba said:"Thanks to all the cats that laugh at my style and then copy !!!"
Camp Lo formed in 1995.
They are most notable for their flair towards blaxploitation in their style of dress and in their lyrics.
Camp Lo uses slang heavily, often to the point of near incomprehensibility. A typical example of their lyrics is:
"Casanova brown, levitating jiggy in da shiggy's / In la hotta car 54 chasin' diamond runners / Headin' ice-bound, where every chilla dime can get / Your Harlem buck strut freezin' world heist Hollywood."
This is one of the best rap records in all the history of the Hip-Hop !!!
P.S.: Please check up my rap listmania, just clicking on my nickname and clicking above my listmania. Here there are 40 Hip-Hop albums choosed by me just for winning people and not for fans of the mortal masochism rap !!!
I assure that in my rap albums' list you will find the best American Hip-Hop albums. There are dance beats and strong ones and lyrics just for the winninf person in the life !!!

A throwback...artistic, nostalgic hip hop.......2006-12-06
Camp Lo's 1997 debut "Uptown Saturday Night" is a very underappreciated, unique hip hop album. The duo of Sonny Cheeba and Geechie Suede create a type of hip hop that is really unique and original. Their bouncy, happy rhyming style is just really fun, they both have cool flows and interesting voices, they really keep you listening. Producer Ski, one of the more underrated east coast producers of the 90s, creates dense musical soundscapes that are often just beautiful. If I were to pick two words to describe the sound of "Uptown Saturday Night," they would be rich and majestic. The sound is really nostalgic of multiple eras past, sampling classic jazz, soul, funk, and even early hip hop standards. This is one of the last great party albums, balancing the joyful banger singles with the toned, thoughtful slow tracks. I highly recommend "Uptown Saturday Night," this album is really special in a lot of ways and has been slept-on for too long.
The album begins with "Krystal Karrington," an upbeat, funky start where Cheeba and Suede introduce themselves as lyricists with their silky, smooth stylings. One of the best hip hop singles of all time follows, "Luchini aka This Is It." From the singalong chorus to the perfect horn-laden beat to the joyfully happy lyrics, this song is perfect, and there's not much more I can say, it makes the album worth the purchase alone. "Park Joint" uses a really catchy funky sample, I remember Pete Rock using this sample in the past, it's an upbeat track and a party-starter. "B-Side to Hollywood" has jazzy muted horns and the duo steals the show on the mic, the hook is great too. "Killin' `Em Softly" has a slower beat but some of the album's hardest verses. I love "Sparkle," a jazzy and beautiful nighttime song with another nice chorus. "Black Connection" has a sad and dramatic sample, once again the two rappers shine over great production, really bringing out the best in the music. "Swing" is another well-produced, catchy cut, and "Rockin' It aka Spanish Harlem" has some Latin influence. "Say Word" and "Negro League" are two lyrical highlights. "Nicky Barnes aka It's Alright" is dripping with style, and "Black Nostaljack aka Come On" is one of my favorites on the disc. "Coolie High" is gorgeous, slow and sultry. The album closes with an interesting mix of "Sparkle," it has no noticeable drumbeat and sounds like spoken whispered poetry.
"Uptown Saturday Night" is an album unlike any other I've heard, it has tons of replay value and is just executed with near perfection. The two rappers are so unique, excelling on multiple levels, and the production is almost flawless. I don't know if it came at the wrong time or was just above the world's head, but this one is highly recommended, it's a slept-on and underrated gem.
This cd is hot!!!.......2006-09-21
I always wanted this cd but everty time I caught the video I could never catch the name of the group and every time I called the radio to ask them who song it was they act real stupid so I gave up. But I finally caught the video over the weekened and got the name of the group and ordered the cd immediately. I just got it in the mail yesterday and thanks to all the reviews it really made me want it I knew it would be a hot cd and to my satisfaction it was. Oh and I diffently agree with pankysweet SONNY CHEEBA is fine his smile makes me want to melt to!!!
Uptown of a beautiful Saturday Night (4.5 Stars).......2006-05-09
I've never heard of Camp Lo until I started visiting this site and how everyone kept saying that this was a good Cd, so I had to check it out myself. Camp Lo (Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede) looks like they've been holding down the party scene of hip hop comming from The Bronx. One song that I like is "Luchini aka This Is It" (I never understood the aka's in the titles) but it sounds like a song from the 70's. "Krystal Karrington" is the opening track that will set the tone of the CD. "B-Side To Hollywood" could be a dance joint to fit this duo's feel of trying to create a Hollywood type scene along with their style. "Black Connection" is another standout track that I like. "Rocking It aka Spanish Harlem" has a little salsa groove to the type of song. "Black Nostaljack" is a good song also. "Coolie High" appeared on the Coolie High soundtrack back in '96, one I also like.
One track I didn't like that much was "Killing Them Softly", somewhat of a track that doesn't fit their style. Other than that I think this CD was one of the best jams that came out back in 1997. It gives you a feel for one of those Grown And Sexy Club settings. Cheeba and Suede come correct on the microphone in this CD. Highly Recommended if you want to hear some upscale party tracks with tight lyrics.
Standouts: Luchini, Black Connection, Rockin' It, Black Nostaljack, Coolie High

Another Night is formulaic dance pop--no surprises, no exceptions. Each song is exactly like the one before it: female vocal during the chorus, male rap during the bridge, Dick-and-Jane drum patterns. The formula is undeniably catchy, but its shelf life is even more limited than that of most dance pop. Enjoy the short ride this album provides, but jump off quickly before it becomes annoying. --Beth Bessmer

Sharing an experience.......2006-04-07
I'm a musician who lives in Tampa. Sometimes I go out of town to play shows, and usually I bring two outfits but about 100 CDS with me for the car trip.
I played in Miami a couple weeks ago, and I found myself with 6 hours before the show and nothing to do. I drove down to the Florida Keys, alone. And one of the only CDS I had with me was the "Another Night" CD by The Real McCoy. Everyone knows all the hits, but later on in the CD there's some pretty ambient and trancey sounds. It was a really magical day, riding through the swamps and waters of the southern most part of our country, with the trance-like soundtrack of this CD (and the Pointer Sisters "Energy" album). "I want You" especially sticks out in my head...with its dissont church bell interlude and almost baby-like female chant vocals.
This CD certainly is a piece of pop fluff, but of the most endearing kind. The hooks are priceless, the Deep Bass male vocals of the raps are so campy and ridiculous. But in the 1990s, we danced like our lives depended on it, and many times it did. This was the soundtrack of great times, great loves, and a time when things were so idealistically great all we could do was smile and dance...
"Run away...run away...run away if you want to survive"...
My drive to the keys is a day I will never forget...
amazing dance/pop party album.......2006-01-10
I got a CD player for my birthday in summer 1995 and the first CD's I bought with my birthday money were TLC's CrazySexyCool and this one upon hearing the hits constantly on the radio. This CD has sugary dance pop songs with happy vibes and sweet melodies and I could ilsten to the whole thing without skipping a song. People loved Ace of Base but Real McCoy had mastered the europop craze. I have memories of going on road trips with my family and blasting this from the speakers on a warm sunny day which really put me in the mood. 11 years later and it's still a beautiful feel good CD although you can hear it's age in the music. So what if the girls weren't the real singers at least they weren't anything like milli vanilli.
Enjoyable 90's Club Music.......2005-08-01
This CD may have came out in 1995 but the song "Another Night" was a club staple for most of the 90's. Real McCoy also had a hit with the song "Runaway." This CD just totally takes me back to my 90's club days. It's an enjoyable CD and I still listen to it when I work out.

This is a good record. .......2005-06-24
This is a very good record. There's some really cool melodies and the music has a nice tempo. My favourite tracks are 2 and 6, really cool pop-R&B songs. The Australian version of this album had a cool remix of 'Love and devotion' which I liked more than the original. The original tries to be a bit like a Macarena, which is alright. I like the vocals, they're not over-emotional, they're quite balanced in that regard. It's a catchy record. It perfectly reflects 90's pop culture, electronica, nights and dancing. Nice album.

This is what music is supposed to be!!!!.......2007-01-30
This album,really touched me,DEEP down inside...Everyone should be able to identify,with the songs,"Crush"and"Piece It Together"...Growning up,as a shy,bookworm(with a touch of low self-esteem)there were many girls,that I had crushes'on,who didn't know,thatI even existed!!!Not realizing at the time that(a lot of)girls'were attracted to,ME!I just went on,with my(eventless)knowledge(and comic-book)centered life...There was this one GORGEOUS(Japanese and black)young lady,that,I would've,fought a pack of ravenous Lions',just to spend 5 minutes,of conversation with!!!In retrospect(and sans' any esteem issues')I can see,that she probably,liked,me also!!Now,I realize,that she was(surreptitiously)flirting with me,all the while!! Like they say,hindsight is 20/20..Point being...I spent the remainder,of the schoolyear,admiring,her(from a distance)and never uttering a WORD,to her,because,I never thought,a,"walking dream"like her,woul even look twice,at the,LOSER,that I(in my lack of esteem days)considered myself to be!!She'd probably run in disgust,if I attempted to"holla"at her,I feared!!Zhane,addressed,this VERY issue,when they sang"Would he stay?Would he TURN and walk away,If,I told him?!?"That line,right there,is the chief reason that,I LOVE this album,the way I do...That,and,the touching"Piece It Together"Only song,I know of that deals,with the (very real)issue,of how much time,should a heartbroken,individual,give themselves' to recover,brfore,they "jump back into the swimming pool"That songs'lyrics'almost bring a(street-hardened)dude,like me to tears',when I note,the sincerety,in her voice,as these haunting truths' are sadly sang!!When DO you KNOW,when you've healed enough,to attempt,to start,a HEALTHY(trust-based)relationship,without hauling a TRUCKLOAD of SKELETONS'into,the"next time at bat"?!?!Confronting,issues'that"Crush"and "Piece It Together"talk about,is what seperates' this album,from the standard"that scum,cheated on me" topic,that EVERYONE,has made a song about,to the point,where it's cliche'and redundant!!Here,Zhane'takes topics',that are just as real,but not "run into the ground"by every clown,with a microphone,and a decent voice!!! I could go on for days' discussing this albums' fine points',but I gotta be somewhere,so,I'll go indepth,about my other beloved songs' next time!!Not to mention "Pronounced",but,I'll,write a review on that classic,in a couple of days!!
Great CD.......2007-01-12
I love it... You can put this one on and let play all the way thru.
Sexy and Beautiful bar none...Soul and Passion with class. .......2006-05-13
I truly think the sophmore release is equally enjoyable as the debut release. Zhane has an affect on me like no other duo of their genre. It is impossible for me to skip any track while I listen to the cd.
I would love to hear more from them, however...it has been some time now since anything has been relased.
The music industry is only looking for the next money maker and many groups and duos today are so superficial and lack the passion artists like Zhane has. unfortuantely.
Zhane has a unique blend of vocal ability which demonstrates true artistry and professionalism and which is not found in the R&B music genre these days; granted, there exists only a minimal few.
I definitely recommned this cd as well as the debut release. Add class to your R&B collection. Zhane....Bravo!.... to both of you for two releases of true musicianship and true artistry.
Zhane. Where are you? .......2005-09-13
"Have you ever loved somebody, secretly loved somebody who didn't know?" This question is smoothly asked by two of the industry's most underrated vocalists. "Crush" is one of those timeless songs that is beautiful in every aspect.
Saturday Night is the second album from this powerhouse duo known for up-beat dance tracks ("Request Line", "Last Dance"), jazzy mid-tempos ("This Song is for You", "Rendez-vous") and heartfelt ballads. Zhane effortlessly express emotions most can never find words for. "My Word is Bond" and "Kindness for Granted" are lyrical jewels that speak on love, longing, loss & the ever-changing components that go with relationships. "I want this to be all that I have wished for in prayer," they lament on "Temporary Thing".
"Piece it Together" features the velvety-vocals of Will Downing and Najee on flute. Another gem. Zhane were masters of melody and blended harmony. At times it is even hard to tell who is singing. Is it Jean? Is it Renee? The clever remake of Billy Joel's (love the finger snaps!) "For the Longest Time" is truly unique & Zhane definitely made it all their own. "Good Times" plays homage to Chic's 1979 disco hit.
Zhane was in a class by itself. This duo epitomized class, sophistication and a style that was often imitated but can never be duplicated. Their songwriting skills were incredible and poignant. "Saturday Night" is a classic to relax with on a quiet evening, curled up with glass of wine, and a favorite read, or on that drive home through rush-hour.
Peace*blessings. CLB.
If you are a slow jam fan..........2005-09-12
I bought this CD in 2005, after hearing a slow song on yahoo music. The fast tracks are definitely 90s but the slow jams are timeless. Makes me wonder what has happened to this duo. Awesome voices... Track 9 and 13 are my favorites.

Nude Dimensions: Naked Music, Vol. 1 - The Petalpusher Session Mixed By Miguel 'Migs'.......2007-05-06
This CD is amazing. Every track on the cd is top notch music.
Just Awesome!.......2006-09-11
I dont plan on writing a review of all the CDs I own, but this one is one of my favorites.
I am a newly re-born house-head. The house beast has been asleep for over 15 years and then I came across Mr. Migs by way of some of the reviews I read here on Amazon. And I learned how much the music has grown and matured and become so sofisticated! My children even tell me they like "my music" LOL!
If you like Deep House, you must own this disc. This CD has great fidelity, it thump, thump, thumps while I am at work or while I am commuting in traffic or when I am cleaning.....just whenever!
Do yourself a favor and pick it up. You will not be sorry!
Sexy naked music.......2006-07-04
As a fan of club/dance/ambient music in general, I would always find an artist that I liked and look desperately for their music always afraid to venture into compliations in fear of having a few songs that I knew I wouldn't like.
This is certainly not the case with Nude Dimensions.
Miguel Migs (petalpusher who I liked anyways) has done wonders in this seemless transition that takes you high then brings it back down to cool and just leades you through a musical experience only a fan of such music could truely appreciate.
Great CD.......2005-12-31
This is a great CD for anyone who is even a "moderate" house music fan. Great beats, sets the chill-out mood to a level to where you and you significant other will be comfortably naked. This is a must buy.
