Like almost every single album bearing the name and inimitable voice of this rare jazz treasure, this reissue covering Jimmy Scott's on-again, off-again relationship with Savoy Records has both its highlights and its low points. Of course, no amount of treachery or ineptitude has ever muffled Scott's long-lined, behind-the-beat ballad singing, which often sounds like a woman's. His is an absolutely original voice and one of the most ambrosial acquired tastes in all of jazz history. Recorded mostly in the 1950s and early '60s, this set showcases Scott in his prime, capable of blowing the roof off a ballad like "The Loneliest House on the Street" or whisperingly caressing a sad tune like "Please Forgive Me." For collectors, this 66-track, three-disc set includes nine unreleased tracks and 15 that were released only as singles. On the downside, there are more blurry photos here than in any other boxed set in recorded history, and the liner notes are breezy and incomplete. Still, if you've been bitten by the Scott bug--or are curious about his ongoing buzz--every single disc, this set included, is nothing short of essential. --Robert Baird

      Jimmy made me fall in love with jazz, he's a big one cause he lives what he's singin',he's true. that's what matters. i just can describe this guy: amazing
      just try to give a listen to his version of -nothing compares to you- or -jealous guy- from his album -holding back the years-....then tell me
      these are the recordings that made him what he is now, definetely a must have, in other words i just think that nothing compares to Jimmy

      I am completely addicted to Jimmy Scott, once you play him 3 times, you are completely lost , in the third cd,Can we begin again is to much ,You change ,Please forgive me,The way we were, oh my God ,Close your eyes,And what are you doing the rest of your life ,you can die and go to heaven, then because you heard the greatest you know why you are here, This is a costly package of 3 cd, But if you never buy another thing in your life, you need to treat your self to this, It also make you feel so sad that we wererobbed of this man voice, I pray he live a quite bit longer,I heard his doucenmentary on startz about 2 in the morning, I jumped straight up and started taping , the very next morning i started looking for anything by him, and I tell everyone how it relax you to hear him his voice is so sweet. it just bless you and make you feel so good,This was recorded in his young days,he do Memories better than barbara Striesland. and Gladys Knight if it possible and it is.When I fall in love ,Its like he is standing on stage ,he takes his time with his phrasing and make yu wait for his next note, I got and email fom a fan in Japan, , he is loved all over the world, it like a BIGG SECRETTT you dont know anything about him, but once you know , you want to know who else knows,and you find out the people all over the world who has found this great secret want o talk about him,I LOVE JIMMY SCOTT tHEYHAVE WEB SITE THAT TELLYOU WHERE HE IS APpEARING IN THE USA BUY THISSS
