This sixth outing for the Cheathams is a departure from their earlier efforts, displaying a more jazzy, introspective mood. Jeannie's expressive vocals are just as well suited to the softer, slower material, and Count Basie alumnus Frank Wess lays down some wonderful blues passages on flute. The highlight may be the sequel to their classic "Meet Me With Your Black Drawers On." Ultimately this album blurs the lines between jazz and blues until they no longer exist, creating an evocative, melodious whole. (J.T.) -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

Great soulful jazz.......2003-01-06

I really liked this CD when it came out more than a decade ago. With Jeannie Cheatham's expressive soulful voice, backed by Jimmy Cheatham's top notch band, this bluesy-jazz CD is the perfect fit when you want something a little mellow, but uplifting at the same time. The track, "Heaven or Hell Blues" alone is worth the price of this CD.
