Customer Reviews:
My favorite Libana CD..........2002-07-09
I've been into Libana for over 10 years, and this is by far my favorite, even surpassing "A Circle is Cast." The songs are easy to chant/sing along to and are life/earth affirming, rhythmic and soothing. I particularly am fond of Treeplanter's Round, Con el Viento, Lullaby, Ode to Contentment, Now I Walk in Beauty, and most especially, Be Like a Bird. Even my husband has begun to appreciate Libana through this CD, which is a real breakthrough.
A Little Better Than A Circle Is Cast.......2002-06-05
Just like their other album, it includes songs about the Judeo-Christian Deity. If I wanted that I'd buy one of the countless albums about Jesus! And like A Circle Is Cast the songs are too short and somewhat hard to understand.
To be honest, Libana kind of reminds me of Enya who I'm also not crazy about.
Uplifting, singable music.......2002-03-12
I bought the cassette maybe ten years ago and fell in love. There is a guided meditation, some great circle chants and even a girl scout campfire song! Feminine without being offensively feminist, and somehow delivering the feeling of being very personal. I wish I understood the Spanish: Con El Viento is lovely. Music translates well into other philosophies (some come from other philosophies). Buy it, you'll like it!
Fire Within.......2001-11-24
Some of the songs are great for meditatng
Looking For a while to find this again!.......2000-05-02
I Came to this site just to find this. The Chants in this CD are addictive. I was given this as a gift years ago. My daughter needs music to get up in the morning and has mood disorders: I am getting this CD after knowing its postive effects on my son ten years ago. We also played it alot in the car, it seems to keep the chilren calm and they learn its lyrics which are life/soul focused. This is alot healthier stuff than turning on your local radio station for a child.

Album Description
A soulful, eclectic collection of chants and songs, chosen for their capacity to inspire and uplift. Beautiful vocals, combined with lush instrumental backgrounds including piano, harp, guitar, hand drums and choral vocals. Co-producer and arranger Russell Walden contributes keyboard and piano tracks, as well as harmony vocals on many of the songs. Eddie Daniels, internationally known clarinetist, is a guest artist on the track "Only Make Believe". In addition, a host of gifted Santa Fe musicians (including Shaina's husband, Richard) contribute instrumentals and back-up vocals. Lyrics include:
--"...In this time when the Earth is waking to the dawn of another age, I tell you now, there is no reason to be afraid..."
--"God of Beauty is now reigning in the temple of my heart..."
--"Where I sit is holy, holy is the ground, forest, mountain, river, listen to the sound...Great Spirit circles all around me..."
--"It's in everyone of us, to be wise, find your heart, open up both your eyes...we can all know everything, without ever knowing why, it's in everyone of us, by and by..."
--"On a clear day, rise and look around you, and you'll see who you are...on a clear day, how it will astound you, that the glow of your being outshines every star..."
Customer Reviews:
Some of the most uplifting and inspiring music you'll ever hear.......2005-08-30
On her second release, Shaina Noll has compiled ten beautiful, inspiring and uplifting songs, which she performs with sincerity, conviction and passion. Her love for her listeners is palpable throughout each piece. As Shaina has said, these ten songs are pieces, which helped her on her own personal journey, and I am sure they will nurture and inspire anyone who takes the time to listen. Just open your heart, relax, and allow the positive messages and majestic power of these songs to course through you.
Each song contains beautiful orchestrations, exceedingly powerful lyrics, and messages of love, healing and unity. They teach us to honor mother earth, all her inhabitants, and ourselves. Shaina has a warm, rich and highly expressive voice sent straight from Heaven, and sure to sooth your soul. The variety of material here is fantastic... from the reflective and encouraging "Brother Warrior", to the achingly lovely "Only Make Believe" and the delightfully soulful final track, "Sometimes It's Easy", every song presented is a gem, sparkling with vibrancy, intensity and power! This is music that simply must be heard, felt, and lived! This is one musical journey you truly should not miss!!! Allow Shaina and this exceptional music to guide, encourage and inspire you. I am a better person for having listened. Thank you, Shaina, from the bottom of my heart. I can't recommend this album highly enough! Please, "Listen, Listen!"
GREAT.......2002-03-19
This is easy to listen to and gives you a good warm feeling...
THANKS Shaina
Shaina's second CD is richer, fuller, deeper.......2000-06-13
As a long time fan of "Songs for the Inner Child," I was eager to hear her second release, "Bread for the Journey." The moods on this CD are much more diverse, ranging from the very powerful and soothing "Brother Warrior" to some very playful, upbeat songs. (It did take me a little adjusting, as the mood on her first CD is more single note.) My most surprising favorite is "On a Clear Day." This is a song I had heard many times, but never actually listened to! Shaina's version carries so beautifully the energy and message of this song: On a clear day...you can see who you really are. The produciton values here are much improved, and for me this increase in professional sound quality only adds to the synchrony of Shaina's lovely voice and the heart-felt songs.

Album Description
"Eclectic is a word much over-used in folk music, but how else to describe an album that includes centuries-old Gaelic as well as selections by Stan Rogers, Dido and Kate Bush? Nearly every song on this album deals with a journey, whether from across the sea or back from the grave; each song is about choice and living with the consequences. Though it has been nearly eight years since The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh recorded their last studio album, the astonishing variety of songs collected here, the inventive arrangements, the strength and clarity of the vocals guarantee that their journey has not been wasted--and that their choices are sure to please.

Captivating, enthralling, woundrous..........2004-11-29
I was lucky enough to see The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh perform live at the Seaside Scottish Games; just one set and I was hooked and perfectly content to listen to them for the rest of the weekend.
If you enjoy Irish/Celtic/Folk music, you won't go wrong with any of their albums, and this is one of the best!
Ready For The Storm.......2004-11-18
What a great opportunity for me to listen to a group that I had not heard before and then share it with you all.
I am not a musician but an appreciator of Celtic/Irish/Scots music. It is all I listen to these days.
What a lovely sound the Browne sisters make with their music, the adding the voice of George Cavanaugh as well as others who contributed to this CD.. I would be hard put to pick a favorite from this group of songs. They are all very well done.
I just hope that one day the Browne Sisters and George C. will make it to Texas so I can see them live. This is a excellent CD..
If You Like Celtic pop get this now.......2004-11-13
The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh represent fresh and spirit harmonies. If the listener loves harmony and an energy that is captivating this CD is for you. The title song is worth the music in the first place.
Passes the "Gars ye tae Greet " test with flying colors!.......2004-11-10
What do I mean by the "gars ye tae greet" test? Now that is simple. Good Celtic music moves you and at is best it "gars ye tae greet" or make one come to tears. THE BROWNE SISTERS and George Cavanaugh in READY FOR THE STORM, pass this test..
Good Celtic music is where joy and sadness mingle: THE BROWNE SISTERS and George Cavanaugh in READY FOR THE STORM have this.
One of the songs NANCY WHISKEY is unusual in that it does not celebrate drinking and convivial life but instead warns how "Nancy Whiskey" can control and destroy your life which is quite true by the way. This mature song is certainly welcome.
There are a number of Celtic songs concerning mental illness and WUTHERING HEIGHTS, though not strictly a "Celtic song" it is clearly, inspired by the British/Celtic song tradition.
Good Celtic music is a place "full up of cianalas" that is to say Celtic nostalgia or strong feelings of deep love, feeling, regret, joy and I will add a touch of mysticism. THE BROWNE SISTERS and George Cavanaugh in READY FOR THE STORM have this.
They sing CRO CHINN T-SAILE is one of the 'Big Songs' and the Browne Sisters do it justice. You might recognize "Theid mi dhachaidh" as one of the moving instrumental melodies on the great ROB ROY CD.
Both technically and emotionally, their performance here is very expressive: pure Highland silk.
BONNIE PORTMORE is an other song like this; this authentic Gaelic melody is haunting -you might remember it from the Highlander series. It tells of a Gael who suffers to see the beauty of nature versus rapacious economic forces .
THE SPANISH LADY is a great old Irish love song and I am glad to hear it again.
I enjoyed seeing the nostalgic pictures of the Browne Sisters in the early years. In the pictures as well as the music you can see the authentic joy they bring to their music and the love for the Celtic tradition.
Gu meal sibh bhur naidheachd..CONGRATULATIONS to you all for another fine album!
The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh is a perfect CD for the holiday season to share with the family, a loved one along with a hot cup of tea or mulled cider next to a roaring fire .
Celtic music at its best!.......2004-11-07
This kind of album is why I listen to Celtic music! It ranges the full emotional gamut from heartbreaking to exhilirating. I had not heard of George Cavanaugh and the Browne Sisters before this and had some reservations at first. Generally, when a group has multiple lead vocalists there is at least one that is just not as strong as the others. That does not seem to be the case at all with this group. Although I found myself particularly drawn to George Cavanaugh's rich voice, the ladies also do a beautiful job, each with a distinct sound of her own, but capable of blending together quite nicely. The version of Spancil Hill found here is flat out, no question, the best I have heard and Bonnie Portmore is right up there. This Land Is Mine touches a very personal note and I was hard put not to start crying the first time I really listened to it. Overall, I'm putting this solidly in my top ten of Celtic CDs and highly recommend it to anyone with a love of the genre!

Album Description
From Grammy winner, Darlene Koldenhoven, this 'anything but traditional' CD "Heavenly Peace" was selected as "Best Holiday CD" by New Age Magazine; "Album of the Month" by The New Times, Seattle; and debuted #2 on the New Age Voice Radio Charts. This glorious collection of original and traditional songs (some non-seasonal) with non-traditional arrangements will evoke that special holiday spirit all year long. As producer of this successful inde release, Darlene chose or composed and arranged most all the songs to tastefully feature her expressively soaring, angelic, five-octave vocal range, with or without lyrics. The lyrics touch upon the spiritual and emotional sides of all the characters involved in the Christmas Story, while the music and production reflect elements of classical, world, jazz, and new age. A serene and joyful celebration with mostly synthesized accompaniment and acoustic soloists on various traditional and world instruments. If you liked her featured solo, "Aria," in "Yanni, Live at the Acropolis" you'll love her vocal and keyboard work here. With plenty of musical interest for attentive listening, this album will also create a soothing background ambience. From comments by radio programmers, to listeners world wide, EVERY track on this album is musically and spiritually satisfying. Heavenly Peace . . . indeed!
Customer Reviews:
An Awesome Experience.......2005-01-08
Although parts of this recording are sung in a vocal range that the Modern Listener isn't comfortable with, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys extreme talent. Listening to this CD is an experience: I was soaring on Pie Jesu. Koldenhaven is the most exciting female singer since discovering Loreena McKennitt.
Beautiful Voice.......2002-11-19
The tonal quality of Darlene's voice is simply superb. Both rich and delicate. I would estimate at least a four octave range of superb, stylish aural splendor. Her talent goes well beyond just being a superb singer. She also arranged many of the "Heavenly Peace" songs, and produced this CD. Do I have a favorite song? Not really, they are all great for listening. But if I have to select a favorite, it would be "Emmanuel" ... a pure, ethereal song of magical beauty. I play this song over and over and over. The CD is my Christmas morning music while opening gifts. Highly recommended.
Heavenly Peace, indeed!.......2000-11-28
A few seconds into my initial listening to its first track, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," I sensed that Heavenly Peace was not going to be a typical Christmas album, and as the rest of the album unfolded, that first impression became ever more deliciously validated. The multi-layered vocals on the song, in their interplay with the violin solo, alert listeners that they are in for some groundbreaking music, period, let alone a singular contribution to the seasonal literature.
As the album continues to cast its spell, one quickly develops an appreciation for all the unique ways that Koldenhoven informs the holiday musical legacy, making new even the most familiar tunes and, simultaneously, the wonder of the Christmas story. Even more remarkable than her crystal-clear five-octave instrument (from below second alto to up, up, and away) is the fact that she manages to exploit its full range without showy, gimmick-laden histrionics.
Several original compositions, including the wordless "Angels' Pastorale," add depth to the listening experience, and the sensitive lyrics (especially on "Joseph's Question") are worthy of the delicate settings that cradle them. Even the best-known tunes are so imaginatively delivered that one may be more tempted to wonder where one has heard the song before than to (attempt to) sing along. "Silent Night," packaged a bit like The Manhattan Transfer's version, comes the closest to sounding like something I can use as a basis of comparison, although if you're a Sarah Brightman fan, this collection will surely appeal to you, as it mines similarly etheric stylistic territory. It even closes with Koldenhoven's heartfelt (and superior) take on one of Brightman's signature tunes, "Pie Jesu" from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem.
Although hers isn't a household name, you may know the artist for her work with Yanni (she sang "Aria" on his Live at the Acropolis video and his In the Mirror CD), 2+2 (a jazz group with whom she earned three Grammy nominations and one award), or Inner Voices. The latter all-female quartet's 1990 Christmas Harmony is one of those very few holiday releases that have made my playlist every year since its release. I know that Heavenly Peace will join that special group of discs next year, and every year from then on.

Warm and Nicely Done!.......2002-12-19
If you were to buy a release by Mustard's Retreat, this may be the one, since it highlights their strength: live performance. I have witnessed around 30-40 of them dating back to 1979, in their days in the bars and pubs of Flint, MI, and their warmth is nicely captured here.
Typical of their song selection is: 'Part Of Me Remembers', a sincere but not sappy song about loss that always brings a tear to my eyes; 'Detroit 1763', a first-person documentary which is among many they cull from Michigan history; and 'One Meatball', just one example of their great sense of humor.
Whether you're a folk purist or more of a pop-music fan, ANY Mustard's Retreat release will have something for you, but this one is still probably their all-around best!

Customer Reviews:
Love this album!.......2007-02-20
This is a great album. I especially love the alternate versions of "Come, Come Ye Saints" and "Praise to the Man."
"Be Thou My Vision," "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing," and "How Can I Keep from Singing" were also lovely."
One of the vocalists has a somewhat breathy voice -- which I'm not fond of -- but the other vocalist has a rich voice, and she also enunciates very well, which -- as a singer myself-- I appreciate.
The arrangements are interesting, and the instrumental selections are lively. I don't think you will be disappointed.

This is a musician who will not be pigeon-holed into any category, who defies categorization, and who can make something beautiful in everything he touches. Seriously.

Robert Eldridge - Eclectic and Mental Guitar Music ...
Track 1. Spacey delay and reverb. Bouncy. Put on the headphones and groove! ... Track 2. Nice note-bends. Eno-ish. Frippertronic-like. ... Track 3. Full-bodied and chunky. Hefty! Think: R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders. ... Track 4. Very accapela-ish. Nice volume-pedal-like effects and contrapuntal delays that evoke Yo Yo Ma's warm cello. (You can hear people talking in the background.) ... Track 5. Upbeat and lively. Danceable! Great finger-picking guitar work. ... Track 6. Spacey. Whale mating calls. Beautiful, melodic, Malian-like note-runs. Griot to the core! ... Track 7.Chiming. Charming. Classical. Every note sings! Rhythmic, powerful, and dramatic. John Fahey territory! ... Track 8. Bluesy. Funky. Slippin' and slidin'. Again, real Malian Griot-like. Clap your hands and stomp your feet! (Too bad there's background noise.) ... Track 9. Classical guitar pyrotechnics. Spanish-sounding, with a dynamic feel. ... 10. Jazzy and sprite! Sounds like there is a bass player playing along. Jingle Bells, indeed! ... 11. Cool and jazzy. Echoes of Taj Mahal meets Johanne Sebastian Bach. Where's Jimmy Buffett? ... Track 12. Delicate and lovely. Sensitive and spacey. Deeply moving. Echoes of The Edge. Nice fingerwork, but background noise is distracting at 7:00 minutes into the song. ... Nick's bagel's ready! ... Track 13. Norwegian Wood meets Segovia. Images of oceanside, Greek tavernas. ... Track 14. Entering Jorma Kaukonen territory! I can feel the warm, tube glow of the Fender Twin Reverb amp! Fingerlickin-good and as tasty as tenderloin! Do I hear money-coins tossed up on stage before the artist's feet? ... Track 15. Beautiful chordal passages. Effervescent melodic runs. Nice dynamic shifts in sound and tempo. Socrates said that The Muse told him in a dream to "make music." ... Track 16. Laid-back and lovely. Jazzy. Driving-back home music on a sunny, Sunday afternoon. ... My buddy, Robert, has produced a wonderful and intimate listening experience of his live performance before an audience. It will grab you! ... YOWZA! - The Aeolian Kid, EARTH DAY, April 22, 2005 )
Bedtime relaxation with mental guitar.......2005-03-29
I think I must have played one of my Narada CD's (Guitar Decade) about 1000 times now--it's the kind of thing I like to relax to. Now Robert Eldridge has composed and performed solo guitar that ranges from New Age tuneful to almost ambient and it's now in my alarm clock-CD player for that late-evening-I-need-to-relax headphone time. Also, it's not a bad thing to wake up to.
I love the "Flamenco Equizofrenico" with its guitar ostinato plucking (that's my reveille) and I really admired the opening track "Enlightened." (That's my put-on-the-eyemask-headphone and zone out selection.) For fun, there's some Scott Joplin.
Good news; there are free MP3 downloads here so you can sample these gratis. I have a feeling that if you like what you hear as much as I did, you'll be wanting the entire cd. This one is now in my CD player next to the bed and I don't think it's going to be taken out any time soon.
Beautiful.......2004-12-10
Robert Eldridge is a beautiful uplifting guitarist. This CD is full of wonderful dreamy melodies and classical guitar. The song East Harbor is simply magnificent. It reminds me of waking at dawn on a Rocky Mountain backpacking trip, with mist in the valley, and the sun starting to rise over the peaks, light taking over darkness. Virgin Hemlocks (revisited) can brings a tear. It plays as a soundtrack to moments of a life, wrapping paper torn and strewn around a tree, a golden leaf fluttering to the ground, a commencement speaker before blue and yellow thousands, a bedside vigil, the dissolving memories of family long gone, or peering out a window and discovering a night time snowfall.
Not every song grabs at your heart strings. Eldridge has plenty of fun on the CD too. If you simply want beautiful music to fill your house, your drive or your life, this is a great one. It fills a role that Innocence Mission or Simon and Garfunkel do for me.
