Fischer-Dieskau renders this collection of 19th century French art songs with stunning mastery, ably accompanied by Hartmut Holl. The songs range widely in style from the comic, to the lyric, to the bombastic, written by a "who's who" of 19th centry French composers and poets. This CD is a must for anyone who is interested in French language or art songs, or who enjoys the artistry of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

This is NOT a new release .......2007-01-22

This is NOT a new release despite what it reads above for release date/original release date. This is a comp of two earlier releases from the early 90's and as far as I am concerned do not measure up to her latest work. This is the second time I have been tricked into buying her back catalog and although I love her latest, this stuff doesn't measure up, one listen then onto the shelf. Why?

It's a friend of mine who made me bought this CD and I love it.The girl writes like Michel Legrand , sings like Peggy Lee and looks like an angel.Three good reasons to by this.

I love this album.I did'nt know about Isabelle and Dirk Schoufs,this is so sad...
This must be why this album is so beautiful.
it's structured as a film score and in the end the hero dies but when you know it's the truth,it 's so sad.

this was recorded just before isabelle 's lover died (dirk schoufs-vaya con dios) and it's the last time he played doubble bass ,so the drama of that situation makes the album so sad but so beautiful.
the last romantic warrior (english title) will forever be...
