Falling in Love With Frank Sinatra & Tommy Dorsey

Many of Frank Sinatra's songs of innocence later became his songs of experience. This volume of RCA's Falling in Love with... series collects 16 numbers from the Hoboken wonder's early-'40s years with the Dorsey band. Often ethereal--literally in the case of the dreamy "Stardust"--this isn't the adult Sinatra who'd later transform "This Love of Mine" into a dark night and "Night and Day" into a much more lusty plaint. Instead of brooding, the boyish star sounds wonderstruck at the thought that women were responding to his skinny self; on the likes of "I'll Never Smile Again," he's very nearly glad to be unhappy. --Rickey Wright
