When I first Heard Gloria Melancon sing, It was in a jazz club in Atlanta, and I cannot remember a better evening as a member of an audience. Her intuitive understanding of what a singer is, and how the voice should be wrapped in the music was enough for me to decide to buy a new sound system so I would not miss one decibel of her magnificent interpretation. Her magnetic personality really comnes through on I'LL TAKE ROMANCE and my heart broke listening to BUT NOT FOR ME. Add this to your collection and you will say Gloria Melancon had her way with you too.

A Lovely Way to Spend An Evening.......2000-12-13

Anyone who gets this CD will have "a lovely way to spend an evening"--in fact, many evenings. Put another log on the fire, pour a little wine, and the warmth of Gloria Melancon's voice will add the color and vibrancy that make the scene sublime. And believe me, all this is said by a guy who never cared much for jazz. I'm especially impressed with Gloria's ability to deliver songs I have heard presented by many artists, yet convince me I'm hearing them for the first time. Example: I thought Ray Coniff owned 'S Wonderful, but Gloria demonstrates she's a shareholder, too. Additionally, she has chosen superb accompanists. The music never blasts. . .it blends. A final note: As Gloria gains a wider audience (and she will), listeners will learn that earlier in life she sang in some of America's premier entertainment spots. Now that she's ending an impressive corporate career and will give full time to her performing skills, I guarantee that she'll sing on Park Avenue again. She belongs there. My advice: Buy this CD while the first edition is still available.

LOVE HAD IT'S WAY is a beautiful collection of songs which are romantic, timeless and well-loved. Gloria proves her talent and brings these songs to new magnification with the turning and maneuvering of vocals which are not only smooth and pleasing but satisfying. She doesn't leave you yearning for that one twist of a note or phrase which adds "completeness." The entire CD is musically competent and it is evident that Gloria has not only made this her personal art, but is able to share this lovely gift with others in an impressive way.

A particular favorite of mine is, Love Had it's Way, which absolutely captures the heart with gorgeous vocals and breathtaking piano arrangements. Other favorites are: When October Goes, The Folks Who Live on the Hill and Time After Time ... although it's hard list just a few because the entire CD is so terrific.

I have also had the good fortune to be able to see Gloria perform live. She's just as adept on stage as she is in a studio. She brings class and elegance as added components. So, here's another color for the rainbow ... LOVE HAD ITS WAY ... I highly recommend it.
