Hours of Strange and Wonderful Enjoyment.......2006-07-19
This is a fine collection of the work of the "oddest of Bach's 20-odd children." The intros and commentary by Professor Peter Schickele (University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople) are as sidesplitting as the "music" itself. One learns, for example, that PDQ Bach is the only composer to have written for double reeds -- without the use of oboes or bassoons. . . . Just four of the high(low)lights on this 4-disc set include: "Concerto for Horn and Hardart," "Iphigenia in Brooklyn," "Unbegun Symphony," and "Pervertimento for Bagpipes, Bicycle, and Balloons." The PDQ Bach corpus is (fortunately) not exhausted with this box set, so there will likely be others, but this one is terrific and will provide hours of strange and wonderful enjoyment.
PDQ Bach lifts the standard of musical humor.......2005-09-16
Excellent 4 CD album from PDQ Bach. Although most music is meant to be humoresque, it is also brilliantly composed/'borrowed' from other composer. Nice item for music lovers that do have sense of, almost British, humor.
Essential for any classical fan with a sense of humor.......2005-08-09
This recording is a treasure trove of PDQ Bach music. It is good for many, many laughs, and even my husband who is not well-versed in classical enjoys it to bits. A must-own for anyone who loves the wit of Peter Schickele!

if you cant sing and laugh at the same time just wait til he tries to do a Rap song. look for my favorite song of his "o little town of hackensack" for christmas time
Totally corny and totally classic!.......2002-11-29
What can I say? These attempts to poke fun at classical music and aficionados of the genre are silly, puerile, well-informed, beloved by said aficionados, and utterly hilarious. With a style of humor that is something like a cross between Garrison Keillor, Victor Borge and Monty Python, "Professor" Peter Schickele has been perpetrating the P.D.Q. Bach phenomenon since 1959. "Researching" and sometimes even dressing up as the alleged "last and least" of Johann Sebastian Bach's many children, Schickele has composed, conducted and performed send-ups of various composers and musical styles. This four CD set compiles some the best (or should I say "worst"?) of his efforts. Included are "The O.K. Chorale", "The Unbegun Symphony", "My Bonnie Lass, She Smelleth", "The Seasonings", "Schleptet in E flat minor", "Echo Sonata for Two Unfriendly Groups of Instruments", "Concerto for Horn and Hardart", and my two personal favorites: "Beethoven's Fifth Symphony" (with commentary by sports analysts discussing the "competition" between the conductor and the orchestra) and the hilarious cantata "Iphigenia in Brooklyn". I can remember my father rolling on the floor in hysterics upon first hearing "Iphigenia", and anyone who is familiar with the Baroque oratorio style of such ubiquitous works as Handel's "Messiah" or J.S. Bach's cantatas will undoubtedly howl too at all the "in jokes". If you're serious about Baroque or classical music, do yourself a favor--let your hair down, get un-serious, and listen to these CDs every once in a while. And may every genre of music be fortunate enough to have a "P.D.Q. Bach" invented for it!

Consider this a tradition with watching the Passion of the Christ Movie.......2006-04-16
Every year i pull out this cd and i play it through the week of easter. To me, the song symphonies of some of the tracks really helps me to place myself in that time and really get a grasp of the meaning of Jesus' Death and Ressurection.
i would have to say that "higher" is the best song on the cd, next to "take my life" . because they mean the most to me in reference to my relationship to Jesus.
If you have a friend who would like to hear one artist's perspective of Jesus Christ - get them this Cd. it's good, it's worth it's weight in Content and musical capablities. don't let the first few songs fool you...there is depth and meaning to eveyr track.
Buy it - you won't regret it - and i savour it every year i pull it out and listen and be reminded again of His love.
The Greatest Christian Album of our time.......2006-01-14
Sound like an oversell?? It's not. This album is one of the best kept secrets in CCM, and has never gotten it's due. It is unquestionably in the discussion of the greatest ever. Cindy is masterful as an artist, songwriter, and poet. I have had the privilege if singing with an accapella group (In Unity), and got to open up for Cindy on two occassions. You will not meet a more sincere, down to earth individual, an incredible presence. She actually mentioned that she was working with her label to release a follow-up album focusing on the events surrounding the Resurrection. How any record company would not roll out the red carpet to make that happen is beyond me. At any rate, this album is what artistry is all about. Every song is laden with raw emotion, you are there. I've led Bible study groups with the lyrics of this album in one hand and the Word in the other. If quietly, prayerfully absorbing the flow of "Higher" doesn't move you, nothing will. This is hands down my favorite balled from Cindy, maybe with the exception of the melancholy "Job" from the "Streams" project. (if you don't know, go find out. when you listen to one track repeatedly, and realize that an hour+ has just flown by, it's deep) I praise God for the talents He has shared with Cindy, because the reflection, the inspiration, is unmistakable. Ken Jones
Heaviest CCM album I'll ever own!.......2005-05-30
I'm a metal-head, so Cindy Morgan's The Loving Kind kinda sticks out in my music collection. It's not the kind of music I'd usually consider listening to. That in itself is reason to get this! It's heavy as all get-out....without trying to be. It will floor you in a way chugging guitar riffs and double-bass drums never could! I would have given it more than 5 stars if an option. It's a classic that surpasses any musical genre. Get it...now!
a must have.......2005-02-02
what started with "i will be free", grew a little in "under the waterfall", matured in "listen" now flows so freely and with such grace and passion in "the loving kind". cindy morgan is one of the best singer/songwriters of the last 15 years. i love a well done concept album, and this is one of the few that flows from beginning to end. whether she is whispering, or shredding, you know she believes every word she sings and it is awe inspiring. a refreshing change from all the "pop" crap that has invaded christian music. she uses many styles so thankfully the only label she really has is as a christian artist.
standout songs (well, they really all stand out)
"can you hear me"- is such an every mans song. how many times have we been so frustrated and overwhelmed that we wonder if God is really listening? and of course He is.
"higher"-is a heart-wrenching take on what Jesus might have been thinking as the nails were being pounded into His flesh. just because He was who He was, doesn't mean it didn't hurt and He didn't want it to be finished.
"Take my life"- Mary magdalenes song is a giving up and letting God have control song. "Take my life, take away all my shattered dreams...cause i believe that your love can save even a wretch like me"
i don't know what her record label was thinking when they dropped her and stopped printing her cd's. but luckily we have amazon and can find all her stuff here. also look for the live vhs tape of "listen".
The BEST CD I have ever owned, and worn out!.......2004-03-02
I have owned this CD for 3 years now. I bought it because I thought Cindy had a precious face. Never before had I heard her songs except for once on KLOVE. The song that got me interested in her music was,"The Loving Kind".
When I first heard it, tears welled up in my eyes. This song is so descriptive and simply beautiful.
So, I had to go out and purchase this CD, "The Loving Kind". At one point, this was the only CD I listened to in a 4 month period. The songs, the lyrics, they literally spoke to me. The tenderness in Cindy's voice and each utterance of what she was saying, it all rang true to me. Now, being a Christian, the lyrics and where she derived the lyics from had even a deeper meaning to me.
What made this CD more spectacular to me, was that Cindy went to Israel which inspired her to compose these songs of love. These songs are simply a love song to our Lord and Savior.
From every fiber of Cindy's being, I could feel the love of God coming through in each song, because He, had a hand on this CD.
----
Before and after I saw "The Passion of The Christ", this CD was the one I listened to because, well, this CD was about the life of Jesus in a nutshell.
So, I am at Amazon to purchase two more CD's, one for my friend at church and one for my aunt.
Everytime I listen to particular songs on this CD, the Holy Spirt moves me to tears. The most awesome songs that move me on this CD are, "The Loving Kind", "The Only Way", and "The Whipping".
This is a MUST buy CD. Wonderful for witnessing to non-Christians.

Thank god for cowboys. I was a friend of Tyrels. He would be very pround and happy with the album you wrote. I wish you the best of luck in the coming future. I hope your dreams come true. Tell lynnie hi for -k- . I was at the Rodeo the our little cowboy was taken. thanks Steven G
One of The Best I Have Ever Heard.......2003-03-22
I know this album is going to go far! He is a great preformer and a great person. I love every song on the album.
undertaker.......2003-03-14
this is a well done album and I really like all of the songs on it. Please take time to play the whole cd. You can understand all the words and it's a very well displayed cd. I really enjoyed the undertaker song and I would like to see this artist go far with his music.I would pay to see him in concert any time.
Leave The Light On.......2003-03-14
I Love every one of the songs on this album because it is my opinion that they represent what country music is supposed to be. From the heart and true life experiences. Richard Espinoza's song;LEAVE THE LIGHT ON; moved me to tears as I listened to a young man full of love for life and adventure and optomistic hope for the future only to be cut down even before he really got started. The song represents hundreds of like stories around the world and just about everyone who listens to it will be able to relate to its true meaning...I really loved the song: FAMILY CABIN; This is a very timely fun song seing what is going on in the world today regarding our families being torn apart. According to this song family unity IS NOT a thing of the past..
"I NEED YOU NOW" A tribute to all parents that care for the welfare of their children and care enough to guide, nurture and give willingly and liberally of their advise and wisdom and when needed a gental tough love persuasion to keep their offspring headed in the right direction and of the trust and love that the children of these type of parents have for them. An Awsome message!!! I could go on and on about each one of the songs of this album but space does not allow. I love the backup instramentals and guitar picken. Richard has done a great job on this album and I hope to see many more from him.
If the title track doesn't make you cry............2003-02-15
I have heard Richard live as well as on this CD. He is incredible. Whether playing the CD going down the road or listening to him play acoustic around a campfire, he will be a rising star. The title track, Leave The Light On, will make you shed a tear. The song about the undertaker will leave you crying too, just this time from laughter.
