For the Kids Too!
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Of the many remarkable things about the follow-up to 2002's For the Kids CD, maybe most remarkable is its daring. Here's a disc with a spirit of adventurousness. Instead of relying on a parade of star power for its swagger (and its sales figures--Sarah McLaughlin, Tom Waits, and Barenaked Ladies went a long way toward explaining the success of the first installment), Too! plucks from an indie playing field that appeals with a below-the-radar, bubbling-under kind of cool. To that end, San Francisco-based acoustic idol Matt Nathanson gamely covers Prince's whimsical "Starfish & Coffee," Canada's Paper Moon memorably asks that you check your "Attitude Toward Cuttlefish" at the door, and Shivaree gets your house party (or car-seat party, or playroom party) shaking, in its somnolent way, with "Everybody Came." A sprinkling of big names--They Might Be Giants, Matthew Sweet--stud the proceedings, but mostly this disc is about discovery. It's also about good deeds: Where the first disc benefitted VH1's Save the Music Foundation, proceeds from Too! go toward the Lili Claire Foundation, which helps those born with neurological disorders. -Tammy La Gorce

Car Rides Have Changed.......2007-07-16
We have gone from "mommy, mommy ..." "Stop kicking my chair.", "Can we get a cookie when we get to the store?" "Honey, can you please hold it we're almost there." TO: "Mommy track 4, track 4." "Okay guys but then mommy gets to listen to her favorite track 8."
Its so great.
Different - beautiful.......2007-01-19
There are 3 songs on here from singers I'd never heard of with amazing voices. The kinda songs that give you goosebumps.
Excellent!.......2006-11-10
My 22 month old daughter absoultely loves this cd. She asks for it all the time and when "I'm Different" or the "swim song" come on she dances around and sings along.
Great purchase.......2006-08-10
The CD was in great condition, as described, and it arrived pretty quickly after I placed my order. Thank you, I would totally purchase from this seller again.
Great for Kids and Moms too.......2006-03-16
When the kids start nagging in the car, I pop this CD in and the nags stop while the giggles and singing along start. Both my 18 MO daughter and my 3.5 year old son love it. My son loves to sing along with I"m different, Bottom of the Sea and Everybody Came and he sings "I'm different, different" all over the house on his own. I just love all of it and esp the Meow Meow song. This is great for lovers of modern rock and alternative pop. I guess you would be disappointed if you want mainstream stuff. I'd also like to recommend the Beatles Songs for Kids CD - I never would have thought that Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da would be such a hit with kids.

Mr. Ray doesn't mess around with warm, fuzzy renditions of classic kiddie tunes, even though the crowds he aims to please are still in the lower single-digit age bracket. Instead, as his black, sticker-emblazoned guitar and groovy Elvis Costello glasses hint, he's built a reputation on revving up the little ones with kicky, bounce-around pop/rock numbers, a 12-song clutch of which is represented on Start Dreaming. These tunes sail along, some unloading simple messages that any preschooler can relate to ("Boo-Boos Go Away," "When I Grow Up") and others dipping into more didactic, imagination-inflating waters ("Roy G. Biv," about a boy whose name is an acronym for the colors of the rainbow and "Why Are There So Many Questions," an invitation to stare down such head-scratchers as who thought it would be a good idea to put feet in shoes and how so many spots get on cows). All stand solidly on suck-you-in hooks and melodies--something not entirely surprising from a musician who's brought acclaim to his own grown-up bands, including Stone Pony and Blue Van Gogh, and toured with Meat Loaf and matchbox twenty. If that's not reason enough to take notice of Mr. Ray, his label might be: Start Dreaming is the first in a new family series from Sugar Beats Entertainment, home of irresistible kids' rock band, the Sugar Beats. This debut will keep musically with-it kids crossing their fingers that label head and Sugar Beats' creator Sherry Kondor, also daughter of Carole King, will start dreaming up her label's next pop pick-me-up pronto. --Tammy La Gorce

Start Dreaming Mr. Ray.......2006-11-14
This is a wonderful cd for children. It teaches things while there singing . All Mr. Ray's cd's are GREAT. I would reccomend all of them especially the DVD.
Great Rockin' Kid's Music.......2004-04-08
Our six year old son loves "Start Dreaming" CD by Mr. Ray. This is kid's music that rocks. Mr. Ray has a hip sense of humor, and he is so much better than the sticky-sweet stuff you see on much of kid's television.
Mr. Ray had a new DVD, too called "The Mr. Ray Show!" The DVD, also available on Amazon, is great. Our son's favorite songs are "Kalien the Alien" and "I Want to be a Dinosaur."
Highly recommended.
Mr. Ray is the BEST!!.......2002-12-30
My sister gave my daughter Mr. Ray's "Start Dreaming" CD as a gift and since then she's been singing his tunes all day long...upbeat and fun kid-and-parent-friendly songs that I've caught myself singing along too!!
To top it all off, we had the extreme pleasure of having Mr. Ray to our house for a birthday performance for my neice this past weekend and I have to say that he was incredible! He had all the children laughing and dancing and singing along with him....even the parents were bopping to the tunes! Mr. Ray is not only talented, but also a super-friendly guy. You couldn't ask for any more!!
My family can't wait for his next CD to be released. And we hope to see him in person again soon....THANK YOU MR. RAY!!
Start Dreaming..........2002-12-04
...that children's music can be meaningful and enjoyable for adult's. As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of music, and a former alernative radio DJ, the thought of listening to my 4-year-old daughter's music made me scream -- until we 'discovered' Mr. Ray. This is one of my favorite CDs. Well written, hip tunes make this the perfect holiday gift!!
best kid's music ever!.......2002-08-06
Mr Ray's music is absolutely enchanting to kids and adults of all ages. Every song brings its own unique sound and spirit to the heart of the listener. The most frequently played CD in our house by both the kids and the parents. Mr. Ray is awesome! Can't wait for the next album. If you have the chance to have your children see Mr. Ray perform live, DON'T MISS IT! He is even more entertaining and endearing live.

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous Teaching Resource.......2007-07-10
Namaste! is an amazing education tool for children and adults to learn and practice together the beautiful art of yoga. A great resource for teachers who want to integrate songs and movement into classroom use and teach their students a fun yet physically and mentally rich practice.
There are so many original songs in this collection. In fact, there are so many tracks! Songs, guided meditations, guided postures - this is a rich resource for inspiration and teaching. Plus, the booklet is a treasure trove of information. All the lyrics are included, with suggestions for using the songs with specific poses and parent/teacher notes that give more in depth background into the yoga perspective.
For those new to yoga the parent/teacher notes are a helpful background, and can deepen your understanding of the purpose behind the yoga exercises.
For those that already practice yoga, the liner notes are helpful in seeing the yogic context that these songs and meditations are based in.
For yoga teachers and classroom teachers the liner notes provide useful tips for integrating the songs into their teaching or even creating their own songs for classroom use.
In addition to basic information on specific yogic breathing practices, including details on belly breath and 3 part breath, the parent/teacher notes also include information on: the role of affirmation songs and nada yoga, mindfulness meditation, managing stress, gratitude, guided imagery and cultivating inner peace.
I was so impressed with the collection on Namaste! that we decided to carry it in the shop in our yoga studio. It's an excellent resource for our teachers that work with children. And our yoga students find that Namaste! is a fun ways to share yoga with the children in their lives.
Great CD for my yoga classes!.......2007-07-10
With over 40 songs and sound meditation moments just on the first CD of Namaste! this set gave me lots of tools and ideas to work with for teaching my yoga classes.
For example, I found the song "Being Present" to be a good lead in for meditation practice with children and even with adults in my classes.
I have played "Being Present" as a listening meditation to center my students at the beginning of class. It makes a great introduction to seated meditation focusing on the breath. I have also played "Being Present" at the end of yoga class as encouragement for my students to continue noticing times during the day when they are "being present" while engaged in day to day activities. Listening to "Being Present" has helped my students find easy and fun ways to focus on meditation practices. It's been an instant "hit".
Fun for all ages.......2007-04-25
This Cd is so much fun! It is joyful and full of heart and soul.
I highly reccomend it for anyone!
A Great Buy for Kids and Adults Alike.......2006-07-21
I bought "Namaste!" upon a recommendation by a friend, and boy have the CDs exceeded my expectations! We have listened to the CDs in the car during trips (we have three boys) and listen to them at home as well.
The tunes are catchy, the boys pick them up and hum them when they are doing their chores (so maybe I used this music to "focus" the boys during their chores). Many of the "ditties" are good for introducing new poses or transitioning into something new (even in every day activities). For a novice yoga family, this music collection is fun, positive, and inspiring.
Fun, great messages, good for kids' creativity.......2006-02-20
My two kids (ages 4 & 7) are listening to this and they are really into it.
They end up making up lots of their own creative yoga poses,
dances and games from what they hear,
which I think is a positive aspect of an audio-based piece.

Customer Reviews:
For kids of all ages.......2006-11-25
I teach 9 and 10 year olds. They are too "grown up" for most kids CD's. This is one we all could enjoy. And they don't even know they are getting a lesson!
Pleasure for adults as well kids.......2004-07-29
I'm not sure I'd call myself a grownup, but I'm definitely no kid -- and I can't help but smile large every time I listen to this one. Kids love it -- and their grownups can get a kick from the wordplay and the general good natured silliness of all the songs. This is an album with heart and soul -- excellent messages without sounding messagy -- if you know what I mean. Enjoy!
Fabulous for all ages!.......2004-05-25
I am the mother of a 1 year old but I love these songs myself! LaMotte is so talented. He takes familiar words or tunes and rearranges them in wonderful ways. There are also songs all his own, and they are just great! I love this CD and highly recommend it to anyone with or without kids! His songs are meaningful and fun!
Great CD.......2002-10-29
My 3 year old daughter first heard this CD at day care and now she has her very own copy. It has replaced her Disney CD (thank goodness) in the CD player. She loves it.

Instead of a Sopranos-style album loaded with evocative songs, this HBO-movie soundtrack offers Dave Grusin's workmanlike score. What might be appropriate in the context of Norman Jewison's domestic drama is a listening experience with limited appeal. That is, fans of Grusin's work as a smooth-jazzer will probably enjoy--or at least find unobtrusive--the likes of "I Did an Experiment" and the guitar-and-vibes-heavy "I'm Happy for You." Not that the composer has no flair for reflecting the drama of a moment; "Tom Goes to the Den" is a masterful limning of that early turning point. Other snippets, including the title track, could fit into any tasteful suburban-based film. As for the disc's two vocal tracks, star Dennis Quaid's "I'm in the Mood for Love" is the musical equivalent of an actor's wandering accent, while Crowded House's 1986 "Don't Dream It's Over" brings the truest emotion to be found here. --Rickey Wright

For Kids?.......2006-11-29
By the look of the children on the CD cover this is geared to 4-7 year olds. Janis Joplin on a kids CD? The lyrics in some of the songs are questionable. "Be gentle with me, I'm not as young as I was." "What full lips you have they shouldn't lure someone bad." I wouldn't want my five year old listening to this.
EDITED to say. I hit 1 star and it came up 5.
What's wrong with this picture?.......2006-11-29
I like how they super imposed her face onto the album. Yet again, another mixed CD she's trying to get people to buy when they can most certainly create one for FREE in their own cozy homes! If I meet anyone who pays for this CD I will personally slap them in the head for being stupid.

On Songs for Parents and Kids Too! Seattleite Kelly Fernandi holds forth with a passel of beautifully harmonized bluesy folk and rocking acoustic tunes, all of which play right into the very full hands of moms and dads--particularly those riding the up-and-down rails of first-time parenthood. With variably simple handheld games embedded into the CD's jewel cases (great for tykes on car journeys, collect 'em all!) and a portion of proceeds benefiting children's charities, Songs for Parents provides even greater purpose than listening enjoyment. Inspired by the birth of Fernandi's first child--and the accompanying fears, joys, endless questions, and hypercharged intimacy as the daddy of a newly expanded family--Fernandi created an album that succeeds where lesser efforts forsake substance for sentiment. Rather than songs for children that parents will love, Fernandi plays the other way around, reminding parents to "check all your expectations (and preconceptions) at the door" and to "trade in all these blue chips for some blue jeans," while also appealing to kids along the way. Chock full of love from the rocker ("First Find Happiness"), tender-papa pop nugget ("Daddy, Please Come Home"), tearjerker ("44 Degrees of Gratitude"), soother of frayed nerves ("Slippery Slope of Sleep), Songs is a must-have for all expectant and growing families. --Paige La Grone

PRESS RELEASE: Groundbreaking CD Makes Music Industry History
On November 10, 1999, Born To Snap Music, Inc. released a ground-breaking debut CD called "Songs For Parents and kids too!" by Seattle singer-songwriter Kelly Fernandi. The project breaks ground with its unique audience and revolutionary interactive packaging.
"Songs For Parents and kids too!" marks a departure from the traditional genres of children's and family music by aiming at parents. These upbeat songs vividly paint the experiences of parenthood, from pregnancy through the toddler years, with a bright palette of melodic textures and lyrics that parents can intimately relate to. With the help of several talented Seattle musicians, including Kelly's singer-song writing sister Melanie, the music covers an impressive range of styles, including rock, reggae, folk, 40's jazz, barbershop, POP, new age, spy and blues. And while the versatile vocals, artful song writing and quality musicianship can satisfy the most sophisticated adult tastes, kids simply love the songs too.
Furthermore, this CD introduces a feature that has never been seen in the music industry. A series of interactive games has been built into the CD case itself. Located in the space along the left side of the clear jewel case, you will discover a game, complete with rules, an objective, and a distinct themed challenge. All in all, there are 12 versions available, each presenting a unique challenge, and each themed to a different aspect of parenthood, nursery rhymes or songs from the CD.
Overall, "Songs For Parents and kids too!" by Kelly Fernandi presents a wonderful experience of high-energy songs that are as infectious for the kids as they are meaningful for the parents - all in a challenging and fun, interactive package.

Wonderful!.......2002-05-01
What a wonderfully, expressive album. It captures feelings I had (and have) but could not put into words. Enjoy!
A treat for parents and singles.......2002-03-13
Songs for Parents and kids too is just that and more. Kelly Fernandi put together an amazing album that taps into numerous genres of music including rock and roll, blues, reggae, and even A Cappella. This album not only entertains, but it reminds us all about what is important in life. Personally, I do not have children, but when this album goes into my car cd player, it's a long time before it comes out. Entertaining, inspiring, and from the heart - - don't miss out on this evolutionary album.
A Must-have for All Parents.......2000-07-11
First of all, Mr. Fernandi not only has an incredible vocal range, but he is also able to perform so many different styles with ease. Secondly, this CD is a must have for all parents but especially for those expecting. All parents have gone through that anxious period of wondering the whys, hows, whats, and whens of becoming a parent. It's nice to finally know that others have been in this same boat before. Finally, the amazing acapella "Natalie", with it's rich harmonizations and three incredible voices was like a dream come true. I hope that this CD is a springboard for Mr. Fernandi to continue to treat us to other songs as his children grow older.
Check all your expectations at the door!.......2000-05-09
Oh, man. Another angst-laden grunge act from Seattle. Um, no. This is a wonderful and refreshing disc. Kelly's incredible voice range is perfect for the diversity of his songs on this freshman outting. These songs with influences from folk to blues to jazz (and yes, a little carribean flavor, too) will have young and old tapping their little fingers and toes in no time at all! You don't have to be a parent to dig the messages and questions within. And you don't hafta be a kid to enjoy the game (which I quickly discovered doubles as a rattle! ) First buy this cd for yourself. Then buy it for all your friends with kids. Your parents will probably enjoy it, too. This would make a great Anniversary gift for your folks as they most certainly experienced a lot of what Kelly is singing about. I especially enjoy the arrangement on the vocal "Natalie" If this music doesn't make you smile, you've lost the twinkle in your eye.

I am stationed in bosnia and enjoy listening to kellys music, it keeps me thinking about the important things in my life and how to keep them in order. His music reminds us all what to look for, and as his song says "first find happiness". These songs are a great compulation of lifes little lessons that most folks hear and say to themselves "I should do that", but then forget to do because they are not reminded. This cd is a pleasure to listen to and a constant reminder of the important lessons we can all try to work on every day. Mr. Kelly Fernandi I thank you for the work you have put into this cd and all your time spent in the planning phase. The jacket of the cd was eyecaching and, as I like to see, contained the lyrics to your songs. I hope to see more of your music in the future. To any prospective buyer if you are going to buy a new cd from an unknown artist this week: this is the one to buy you will be pleasantly supprised by the diversity of music style and sounds. You will wish to always have this cd availble. I purchased my cd in nov and it has made the four thousand mile trip to bosnia with me. This is the cd you do not want to get away! Get your copy now.

BROTHER YUSEF: Guitar, Vocals, Foot stomp & Ankle Tambourine
Album Liner Notes:
I began my music career playing the Blues in
bars, coffee houses, restaurants and festivals. I
never imagined myself performing Blues for little
kids. An invitation to perform at my daughter's
day care spawned for me a new career ;
"Brother Yusef, Children's Performer". After the
success of my day care debut I created a musical
program called "Kids Get the Blues Too/Blues For
Beginners". My performances offered a Blues
twist to some old children's classics. Songs like
"3 Little Monkeys", "This Old Man" and" "Hey
Diddle Diddle", take on new life.
I still perform at the usual place like bars,
coffee houses, restaurants and festivals, but these
days I can also be found playing the blues at
schools, libraries and day cares.
