House Party

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
For parents, listening to Dan Zanes provides not only instant Raffi relief, but also the warm sense of belonging to the right crowd. On each disc he trots out a posse of cool friends like Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega, and Lou Reed and he delivers his openhearted lyrics with the rare roots-rocker's gift for stirring grace into grit. It would seem that the release of his fourth record, House Party would be ripe for a backlash--how long can the hokey conceit of a bunch of aging groovsters banging out kids' tunes in a Brooklyn basement hang onto its charm? Looks like we'll have to wait and see, because House Party rages on with the same winning, welcome-to-our-homespun-revolution vibe as its predecessors. Deborah Harry takes a twirl on "Waltzing Matilda," Bob Weir fires up the "Wabash Cannonball," and Angelique Kidjo bids "Jamaica Farewell," but the Zanes originals are this record's proving grounds, and they pin the tail on the donkey with bulls-eye precision. Contributions from returning regulars Barbara Brousal and Rankin' Don--the best couple of favors a party could hope for--send Zanes' campaign to become the guy who turned lampshade-wearing into a kindergarten fashion craze soaring. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Dan's first album...Wiggle the Wiggles out of your CD Player.......2007-06-12

You may have seen Dan on various spots on Sesame Street, I first saw him in his yellow suit, singing Jump Up. This album continues the wonderful music that my daughter has turned my wife and my self on to. The beats are there, and the lyrics are very catchy.

So do yourself a favor, swap out Wiggles or Barney for Dan and his Friends, and enjoy kids music once again.

5 out of 5 stars Thank goodness for Dan Zanes!!!!!!.......2007-05-21

Mr. Zanes, you could not have come along at a better time! In a market where Teletubbies, Barney and the Wiggles seem to have the corner, this parent-friendly album is a welcome relief from all the fruit salad/I love you, you love me/lemondrops and gumdrops drivel that permeate my mushy stay-at-home mom brain!

When I was a single college gal, I remember listening to very hip, fun music. Then came pregnancy and babies. Then Baby Einstein music (which is good, but sounds like someone's ballerina jewelry box after awhile), Barney, Sesame Street and nursery rhyme CDs that took over my music collection. Ack!!! What happened to me? I decided it was time to search for something new for me and the kids to listen to.

After finding this CD and loving it, I just assumed that my one-year-old and four-year-old would not like DZ because it sounded too different from what they were used to. Boy, was I wrong! My older one thinks she is listening to "cool music" -- which she is! We especially like the "Wabash Cannonball" but every song on here is a hit with my kids. The guy is truly talented, and it's just great stuff. And it's fun to hear the celeb singers on a kid's album. Finally, we all have "cool music" to listen to!

5 out of 5 stars My daughters favorite!.......2007-05-14

I bought this CD since Dan Zane is on the Disney Channel. My daughter absolutely loves it! She asks to hear "House Party" all day every day. We dance and sing and it has brought a lot of fun into our house.

5 out of 5 stars Dan is her new best friend.......2007-05-13

We always look for music that is entertaining and enriching for both the toddler and the parent. We had heard Dan sing before on "For the Kids" CD and thought we'd give it a try. We all get down to Dan Zanes House Party! This CD never leaves the car player. The cover is a delightfully drawn board book of Dan & his entorage Whoopin' it up all over town. My 2 year old will "read" the book to me, explaining the pictures and making connections to the music. It's great.

4 out of 5 stars Kids love it.......2007-03-09

My son, aged 6 and my daughter, almost 2 - love to dance to "House Party Time" in the morning. It really gets them going. They are big Dan Zanes fans.

5 out of 5 stars Get connected.......2007-04-22

I really like this Cd, it's a classic, with the title track to be one of those that will live forever. I think Stereo MC's are also worth checking out for some of their other, underrated work.

5 out of 5 stars Fans can never be objective..........2006-04-21

From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...the perfect melting pot of rap and funk. It's impossible to skip over even one track on this CD.

3 out of 5 stars A little unimaginative... but better than I expected........2006-02-23

Bought this CD for one track (connected)... a little early 90s nostalgia.

Not exactly one of my all time favorites, but a good CD for cleaning the house...

3 out of 5 stars Good Driving Music.......2005-09-23

I must say the only reason why I initially bought this album was because of the nostalgia of "Connected" and "Step It Up". After listening to the album though, I was pleased to discover a few gems like "Ground Level", "Playing With Fire" and "Pressure". But unfortunately those are the only songs that really stick out. The rest is just background lounge music. That said, this is still a decent album to listen to - especially on a long drive. I would have given this 2 stars out of 5, but I had to give it an extra star solely on the basis that this it is undeniably quite a creative and original record.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2005-07-26

I love the Stereo MC's because they provide me with what I feel is missing from most other Hip Hop & Hip Hop influenced Pop and that's good musical production, a variety of sounds and instruments, vocals & lyrics that don't rely on blatant swearing and mindless lyrics about "bitches and hoes", crime, drugs, etc...

I like all the tracks except 3, and the only thing I dont like about track 5 & 13 is the female vocals. My favourites are 1, 7 & 11. By the way, if you like these guys, you might also want to check out the Fun Lovin' Criminals.

3 out of 5 stars ok but a bit old.......2007-03-20

I liked this but the sounds are a bit old now... I like the more energetic stuff coming from Europe currently -- for example EURO CLUB HITS VOL. 1 which is on iTunes and Rhapsody and etc.

5 out of 5 stars This is your night... dancing until the morning light..........2007-03-12

This CD is awesome! I love it! It makes you want to dance all night!

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST!.......2005-03-08

This awesome CD reminds me of my senior year of high school at the American School of the Hague in the Netherlands. Weekends were spent dancing my butt off to these awesome songs, I miss eurotechno, and eurodance! To anyone who loves to dance this is a must, not to mention this CD will have you moving at the gym!

3 out of 5 stars An ok dance CD.......2003-11-30

This is an ok dance CD. Only about 4 good dance tracks worth the listen such as "Who Do U Love" - Deborah Cox, "Be My Lover" - La Bouche feat. Melanie Thornton, "Dreamer" - Livin' Joy, "Beautiful Life" - Ace of Base. The rest is basically pretty boring. Not a great dance CD, but still an ok one. Get this only if you like most of the tracks and artists on this dance compilation album.

Following their success with 2005's George Is On, house duo Deep Dish (known individually as Sharam and Dubfire) set out to divide and conquer with individual mixes for UK label Global Underground. Sharam strikes first--and hard--with Dubai, a two-disc set that is likely to generate comparisons with GU's other epic releases such as Sasha's Ibiza (GU13). Disc one is the slow-burner here: Spider and Legaz's dub of "Look Around" funks things up with a vocoder-drenched synth line that could have been pulled off a Jeff Beck album before giving way to the druggy, cascading echoes of 16 Bit Lolitas' "Passing Lights." From the perspective of the second disc, the moody expanse of the first begins to look a lot like an elaborate launch sequence, as the infectious "Timewarp" merges into Cedric Gervais's "Spirit in My Life," which sends the whole business into orbit. Sharam has undoubtedly reached a new high here, with programming so organic it sometimes seems like the track list may have just dropped out of the sky. For those awaiting the next big Global Underground release, your time has come. --Brent Kallmer

5 out of 5 stars This a great CD........2007-05-17

Wow!!! I love disc #2. It's absolutely groovy. Disc #1 sounds a lot like the second disc but I like that one to. This is a great disc for everyday use and it doesn't get old. It's in my top 3 cd's currently.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Grooves.......2007-05-12

This is a brilliant mix for anyone's collection. Unlike many 'set' mixes, this album can be enjoyed at a party, or relaxing on one's own. The chunky beats just keep evolving from track to track.

5 out of 5 stars Best GU Release since Deep Dish Toronto!!!.......2007-05-10

Wow! This album just plain rocks. If you like funky, dirty, and sexy house music with plenty of stellar vocals...then this is the mix for you! However, if you prefer monotonous / repetitive beats and compilations that are more about "creating the journey" rather than providing good music...then it's probably not. It comes down to personal preference.

Personally, I've been disappointed with GU releases for a few years now. I have found several of the latest releases to be boring and hard to listen to. I'm sorry people, but if an electronica comp doesn't make you want to bob your head or move your feet to the beat...then it's not doing its job! And, I haven't found that to be the case with a GU release since Deep Dish Toronto, Digweed LA, and Warren Amsterdam. I was worried that GU had lost its way for good!

But, not anymore! This album has restored my faith in The Global Underground!

5 out of 5 stars amazing again.......2007-03-22

fantastic sequencing of songs, great mixes. a consistent level of energy and excitement. based on this disc I cannot wait to hear dubfire's new one or for the next Deep Dish disc to be released. great beats, great heavy bass bottom.

3 out of 5 stars Nothing Special About This Solo Effort For Sharam.......2007-03-01

Once again I would like to refer readers to LexAffection's excellent and unbiased reviews. Take the harsh critics' reviews with a grain of salt. They are usually coming from reviewers who are obsessed with progressive trance and become annoyed with a DJ when they flex his or her creative muscles in an attempt to come up with a fresh compilation. How dare you DJ's?! Trying to make an album sound different from their last! You people are starting to sound like those classic rock diehards that have listened to Led Zeppelin every day for the last 30 years. Electronica encompases a vast array of genres and is continually evolving. That's its beauty. This compilation represents part of the evolution for Sharam.

However, I'll be the first to admit that I like the dynamics that came from the duo Deep Dish. Dubfire's darker style and his preference for progressive house was a good balance when coupled with Sharam's ligher style and preference for house and vocal tracks.

This two disc set is heavily laddened with vocal tracks (with the male vocalists all closely sounding to long-time friend and previously featured vocalist, Morel). Firstly, It would have been nice to have a little more non-vocal progressive house tracks to balance out the album. Secondly, and more importantly, Sharam's track selection is fairly dire.

If you are a trance-head and hate house music then don't buy the album. If you are looking for an album as good as GU025:Toronto (like I was), more than likely you'll be disappointed. Others love it. Personally, I consider 5/13 tracks on disc 1, and 4/14 tracks on disc 2 to be above average (none of them are stellar) with the remainder being very mediocre. Can't consider this effort a success for Sharam.

Both Discs 1 and 2 get 3/5 stars. Let's hope Dubfire's upcoming GU release is a little more impressive.

4 out of 5 stars Part of the soundtrack of my high school years.......2006-06-23

I was 15 years old and a sophomore in high school when "Be My Lover" started burning up the U.S. charts toward the end of 1995, and I loved every second of that song: Eurodance-pop perfection, bolstered by the catchy "La-da-da-dee-da-da-da-da" hook and the powerful diva voice of the late Melanie Thornton. As I recall, most radio stations played the edited version without Lane's rap, without which the song seems kind of empty (even though it is cheesy: "Like Boyz II Men I'm on bended knee"... sorry, that line makes me giggle). As much as this song simply smokes, the extended mix which also got some radio play on "mix shows" and the like is even better.
Anyway, when I bought this album I expected an album's worth of songs in the same Eurodance style which I had grown to know and love thanks to Real McCoy, 2 Unlimited, Fun Factory, and (remember "The Rhythm Of The Night?") Corona. To my surprise, there were some slow jams here too! Despite being well-sung by Melanie, as is everything here, the slow jams - especially "I'll Be There" (which is NOT the Jackson Five/Mariah Carey classic) - aren't as memorable as the dancefloor thumpers. "Be My Lover," the title song, "I Love To Love" and "The Heat Is On" are all red-hot, catchy, well-crafted Eurodance classics. And it is the talents of Melanie Thornton that make them really special. In the hands of any other singer these songs wouldn't sound nearly as hot. There's also "Where Do You Go," which is ALMOST the same song that became a hit in 1996 for the Cuban-American trio No Mercy - I say "almost" because the verses are different. Equally fun is Le Click's "Tonight Is The Night," a #89 Hot 100 hit in 1995. (Of course, after Melanie and Lane McCray got together as La Bouche, Le Click continued on with a new singer named Kayo Shekoni who was sort of a soundalike for Melanie, and scored a Top 40 hit in 1997 with "Call Me.")
And there's an oldie here too - that would be "Fallin' In Love," the Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds #1 hit from 1975. The album version is a nice, breezy, mid-tempo pop tune that wouldn't sound out of place on adult contemporary radio. It's certainly far superior to the horrid Eurodance remix that was issued to radio stations after the success of "Be My Lover" and "Sweet Dreams." Actually, "Fallin' In Love" was originally La Bouche's first single in the United States in 1995, but it flopped, getting into the "Bubbling Under the Hot 100" chart for a few weeks and then vanishing. When it was re-promoted to radio the following year, RCA did not re-release the single and CHR stations played it as an album cut (though most of them, unfortunately, played the remix, which was not all that bad on its own, but was horrible compared to the album version).

In short, this is a more-than-competent survey of the mid-1990s Eurodance sound, with a pair of big hit singles and a few extras as well. La Bouche injected some soul into the Euro beats and came up with a winner. Rest in peace, Melanie, you are still missed.

5 out of 5 stars A cd that makes you dream!.......2005-10-04

Who hasn't danced even once with the big smash hit ''be my lover'' way back in 1995? And who hasn't dreamt by listening to the hit ''sweet dreams''? The unique voice of Melanie Thornton - tragically gone in a plane crash in Zurigh in 2001 - along with the rap rhymes of Lane McCray make a combination of passion, adrenaline and of course ... dancing!! Beautiful melodic songs, such as ''fallinf in love'', ''i'll be there'' and ''nice n' slow'', dance hits like ''where do you go'', ''i love to love'', ''the heat is on'', along with one beautiful ballad - ''do you still need me?''and the 2 smash hits we just talked about. The cd ends with 2 great remixes of ''be my lover'' and ''fallin' in love'', plus another big hit ''tonight is the night'', which mysteriously isn't enclosed in the 2001 compilation ''greatest hits'' of the group. A cd that everybody who loves dance music should have. The group may not exist anymore, but will always be remembered, especially Melanie.

5 out of 5 stars This Is Worth Every Penny!.......2005-08-04

Surely the asking price is not too high for something as good as this. I would have paid double for it. Great for the club or a party scene, and great for driving. Just don't get too into it and speed too much.

4 out of 5 stars More Beat For Your Buck (4 Stars).......2004-09-02

Music like this is usually too corny for me to even come close to giving it a chance, but I showed up to my sister's apartment one day and she was playing this CD. By the time I left her place, I was sweaty from all the dancing I was doing. I am by no means a convert, but I do give credit where credit is due. I don't know much about house/trance/dance music, but from what I've heard on this CD and from what I've been told, this is one of the better dance albums out there. A year ago I saw it at a store and bought it used for $1.00 (what a country). There are a lot of great dance tracks on this album and there are some terrible tracks on this album. When the group tries to do ballads like "I'll Be There" and "Do You Still Need Me", they come off as very cheesy attempts to "get deep". Thankfully, those kinds of songs are kept to a minimum. The strength of this album (obviously) are the dance/house tracks. There are house music staples like "Sweet Dreams", "Where Do You Go", and "Be My Lover" on here that make this CD worth the money on their own. They also follow up these classics with strong dance tracks like "Be My Lover (House Mix)", "I Love To Love", "Fallin' In Love (Spike Mix)", "Le Click: Tonight Is The Night", and "The Heat Is On". Great songs like "Nice N Slow" and "Fallin' In Love" have an R&B flavor to them and they help to even things out. Overall, I'd have to say that this album is pretty good. It's not a classic album by any means, but there are some classic dance joints on this album. It has some obvious holes in it, but it's still worth the money if you can find it at a good price. It's sad that lead singer Melanie died in that plane crash back in 2001, but she left behind some great music that will get your body moving. It's always hard to see people go when so much potential is left unfulfilled.

Any record that leads off with Dick Vitale's ubiquitous jabberings is asking for trouble, and this third volume in the Jock Jams series is musically ill-equipped to pull out of the ensuing tailspin. The collection of inoffensive rap songs and R&B-tinged dance numbers does have a few highlights. KC and the Sunshine Band's "That's the Way I Like It," regardless of what sort of material it shares company with here, is a classic, and Blackstreet kick out a decent rhyme with Dr. Dre on "No Diggity." On the whole, it might even make a passable soundtrack for an aerobics class. Besides that, however, you'll have to swim through a lot of musical filler and testosterone-driven flotsam to find anything that rises above an overwhelming and acute mediocrity. --Matthew Cooke

1 out of 5 stars Jock Jams.......2007-02-04

Anyone who pays full price for this is gonna be pissed. Name one Jock who listens to this crap. I just can't imagine professional athletes listening to Da' Dip on their way to a game. I think these CD's should not be taken seriously because they are way too funny to be for real.

5 out of 5 stars great.......2005-10-17

I love this CD, i work the score board at my brothers hockey games and i plan to use these song during the warm-ups.

5 out of 5 stars Non-Stop Fun!.......2001-04-14

Jock Jams Volume 3 is quite possibly the best in the series. It stars off with Dick Vitale's It's Awesome Baby speech, which kicks right into Tribal Dance by 2Unlimited (Remember them?) which is full of energy. Right after that is Republica's super hit Ready To Go and Tito Nieves's I Like It Like That, which is definately a classic. Quad City DJs have made it on to most dance compilations, and this one is no exception. C'Mon Ride The Train is one of the best songs on the album. Freak Nasty provides a pretty good track that is a combination of dance and rap. Crush provides yet another dance classic with Jellyhead, and then Blackstreet gives us their hit No Diggity with Dr. Dre. The next few tracks however are nothing exceptional until you hit Livin' Joys song Don't Stop Moving, which is as close to perfect as you can get. Then Rednex performs a strange combination of country and dance on Cotton Eye Joe, followed by a great Jock Jam megamix, which features many other popular songs at that time which didn't make the compilation. The album ends with Ray Castoldi's chicken dance. Overall, this is a very fun album that works well for parties.

4 out of 5 stars Wham! Bam! Slam! It's Awesome, Baby!.......2000-08-02

Jock Jams Volume 3 is one good album. It will definately get you pumped up.

Every song on this album gets my blood pumping. Hearing Dick Vitale first just set me up for the rest of this fast cd. "C'mon & Ride It," "I Like It Like That," and "That's the Way I Like It" are probably the three most well-known singles, but other great songs like "Da' Dip" and the thunderous "Tribal Dance" make this album super.

This album has something for everybody on it. Ending with "The Chicken Dance" was classic. This album is a great buy with 22 tracks on it, and it more than satisfies you with fast pumping entertainment. What are you waiting for? "Don't Stop, Get It, Get It!"

2 out of 5 stars It REALLY gets on your nerves!.......2000-02-27

My sister got this cd and she plays it all the time. It gets soooo annoying. I was sick of it the second time I heard it. The only reason I even gave it 2 stars is because it is good to make up gymnastics routines to. But other than that it is a TOTAL waste of money!

5 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect...........2007-06-10

I absolutely LOVE this soundtrack and movie! However, does anyone know what song is briefly playing when Micheal starts talking about moving to New York City and it cuts to a picture of him with a "I Love New York" shirt and then cuts to him in Grand Central station? If anyone knows I would really appreciate it!

If you are into club music of any kind, you will love this CD... I have it playing on my Sony Bean while I run on the treadmill and it motivates me to run faster. Ha-ha I am also a HUGE Marilyn Manson fan, and it was an added plus to have a Manson, but-not-so-Manson-like song on there. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best Ultimate Dance Party!.......2001-04-11

Sure, the mixing isn't the best, and the songs are older, but this compilation can still start a party easily. The whole album is upbeat and has many great hits. The album starts out with a lot of dance pop classics. There is Gina G's Ooh Ahh (Just A Little Bit), La Bouche's Sweet Dreams, Crystal Water's 100% Pure Love and the huge hit Jellyhead by Crush. Toni Braxton's huge ballad Un Break My Heart gets a upbeat remix by two of today's biggest remixers: Soul Solution and Hex Hector. The result is stunning, and Toni's vocals work perfectly with the beats. Whitney Houston covers Annie Lennox's Step By Step, which leads into the song Insomnia, which has kind of a futuristic feel to it. Two of the next songs, Mo Money Mo Problems and the outstanding Things Just Ain't The Same are very hip-hop/R&B styled and show the future of Ultimate Dance Party compilations, as this was the last one that was mostly dance. With just a few songs left, they manage to pull together some awesome tracks, including the childish but fun The Child Inside and Mark Morrison's upbeat and bouncy Return Of The Mack. And of course no dance compilation would be complete without the famous What Is Love from the Saturday Night Live skits. This compilation is one of the best (And funnest) out there. Definately pick this up! It's worth the price.

5 out of 5 stars no longer collecting dust.......2000-05-18

This Cd was a gift from Christmas 99. And I only started listening to it a week ago. I am surprised how much I like this CD! I wish I would have listened to it earlier!

5 out of 5 stars Great!!.......1999-10-08

Want to feel like your in a dance club? Well this is the CD for you. All great, great songs.

You just can't sit still with this one!

5 out of 5 stars Good music, good beat.......1999-09-24

Most of the dance songs in the album are popular and well-known in dance clubs. So, having this CD is like owning your dance club. Although the music is non-stop from track to track, the mixing between songs is sometimes not that well done. Anyway, I like this CD very much.

5 out of 5 stars Winter Should Be So Wonderful!.......2007-06-26

I believe this is a sure sign of the apocolypse: I have now reviewed and recommended three CDs in a row!!

You simply cannot go wrong with these collections. "Masterbeat" implies just that--and delivers as well. The first track on this CD takes a little getting used to. I think it had something to do with an organ being the featured instrument. It sounds just a little out of place, but after a couple of listens you'll get used to it. The second track is an absolute CLASSIC: U Spin Me by Inaya Day. No, this is not ANOTHER remix of the Dead or Alive classic. The song's beat is very similar, but the words are different (and better). I never thought I'd say this, but I actually like this version better than the Pete Burn's classic of the 1980s. You want to move, shake, scream, twist, shout--it just does something to you! Any song following this one is not going to do well, and the next cut of "Elektro" doesn't. I don't really care for this track; it is on just about every mix CD I've purchased recently. The rest of the tracks are very good, with Offer Nissam mixing Diva Suzanne Palmer, in "Free My Love." This is a very good remix of the song, but I don't know why DJs don't go more for the Jose Spinnin' Remix. That mix kicks major butt!

I recommend this one highly. I really enjoyed all but the one track, and that still won't stop me from giving this one 5 stars! Now, I have a question: I've gotten Spring and Winter mixes. Does Masterbeat do anything for Summer and Fall??!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the few club anthem series that is still going strong--this one heavy on Tony Moran creations.......2007-04-13

Masterbeat consistently brings us many of the biggest club anthems that don't find their way to CD, and with this volume, they rarely skimp on letting the songs play out to a good length. Deep Influence, Inaya Day, Tony Moran, Suzanne Palmer, Offer Nissim--they all get close to or over 8 minutes of air time.

This is mostly a diva set, with a couple of male vocal tracks and many Tony Moran mixes and productions. Track times and individual comments:

1. fiesta fatal...deep influence (8:30) (a hard tribal track with a female vocalist singing the main hook from the Arpeggio disco classic "Love and Desire". Very hot)
2. U spin me...inaya day (9:25) (Just as Jessica Simpson offered a little spin on lyrics and melody of the Dead or Alive classic for her latest CD, Inaya does something similar here, also keeping that tapping rhythm sound that is the trademark of the original song)
3. Elektro...outwork (6:49) (hokey novelty. Tribal elektro track with a male voice telling us all about the elektro, the new style of music. He also does a hook-laden scat. Sure takes you down a notch from the previous peak hour slammer)
4. It's my life...blush (6:59) (Good strong club mix thanks to Tony Moran production. Female vocals sound like that of a young R&B girl group mixed into a club sound)
5. Something about you...tony moran (7:51) (production is strong because it's Tony Moran, but the male vocal--I assume he's singing--sounds like an 80s male freestyle vocalist, and just can't compete with the quality of the mix.)
6. I feel alive...noel (7:30) (I'm going to guess this IS the male freestyle vocalist from the 80s. this track is again produced by Moran, and somewhat better than the previous track.)
7. Free my love...Suzanne palmer (7:23) (The offer nissim mini-set. As perfect a diva anthem as Palmer meets Nissim can get)
8. For your love...offer nissim featuring maya (8:07) (a surprisingly mellow, floaty, almost trancy track by this team. Slows down this party)
9 .alright...red carpet (7:33) (Just when I thought I couldn't stand to hear another remix of this overplayed tune, this mix gives it new life. But the bored vocals still get to me after a while. The mix is better than the vocals...)
10. Let's get together...soul logic (8:09) (this is such an uplifting, airy circuit anthem, very sing-song. Not for everyone, but a good way to end this set, nonetheless.)

This 16-track compilation demonstrates a sense of humor--or an awareness of its own cheese factor--by sandwiching "Lambada" between the Gipsy Kings' "Bamboleo" and the Bayside Boys remix of Los Del Rio's "Macarena." The spirit of fun keeps this otherwise hopelessly diffuse set from falling apart while dancing between the flamenco guitars of Carlinhos Brown's "A Namorada," a house remix of "Oye Como Va," and Quincy Jones's Austin Powers fave "Soul Bossa Nova." Those willing to let go will have hit the dance floor long before Beck ends the bash with "Burro," his suavecito mariachi version of "Jack-Ass." --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good spread of popular Latin songs.......2005-09-01

If you're one of those Latin song buffs, you might want to check this album out. It has a wide spread of Latin songs ranging from "La Bamba" to "Mas Que Nada". A good mix of ever popular songs and forgotten one.

4 out of 5 stars First Nine Songs Are Cool, Rest Are Boring.......2003-07-31

I'm pretty happy with this CD. I think the first nine songs are pretty cool and enjoy dancing to most of them. These first nine tracks have very upbeat rythms. However, the rest of the songs are older and more boring. Perhaps it's just because I'm young, but I find myself skipping through those last several tracks. To be honest, if the last 7 tracks weren't as boring, I'd give this CD a higher rating.

I think it's cool that this CD has the Austin Powers theme song (track 9, "Soula Bossa Nova") on it. Yeah baby!

1 out of 5 stars Don't be sucked in by the title!.......2002-12-02

This is not a PARTY album. That would be a collection of songs that make people want to feel festive, get up and dance, or otherwise celebrate. What this album is is a collection of popular to semi popular to rarely heard of "latin" tunes. Very few will make you want to get up and dance, or party much at all. Although there are some decent artists mixed in, the album, taken as a whole, is a yawn. This is not the "best party album in the world, ever", not even a FAIR party album. There's WAY better music out there for a party!

4 out of 5 stars Fun stuff..........2002-03-08

I originally bought the CD for Beck's "Burro," which is the Mariachi version of "Jackass." The track is excellent... it's worth the price of the entire CD. The rest of the tunes are just an added bonus (except the annoying "Hot, Hot, Hot"). The CD is perfect for spicing up any party, whether on the dance floor, or simply as background music.

1 out of 5 stars altered art=kaka.......2001-10-15

The changes to the original artists' work on this album cause significant loss to the music quality. What a disappointment!
