Bob the Builder: The Album

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
He may be an unapologetically blue-collar kind of guy, but Bob the Builder sounds awfully big for his work britches on his album debut. Since when does this crew carry on in British accents? Such a royal renovation, when it's this unexpected, can be irreparably jarring. Regardless, if your preschooler isn't completely put out about the right proper revamping of his TV hero, chances are you'll both finds lots of reasons to linger 'round the repair yard here, not least of which is the ramped-up energy supply. "Mambo No. 5" is whipped into a worker-bee's anthem ("A little bit of toiling on the roof / A little bit of making waterproof"), '60s chestnut "Dizzy" spins spirited circles around the original, and "Right Tool for the Job" will find wannabe builders teaching bust-a-move techniques to Mom and Dad. Other tunes, like "What Can I Be (Spud's Song)" and "Blonde Haired Gal in a Hardhat (Wendy's Song)" tone down the tempo to flick an exploratory flashlight on feelings. Still, a sticky bubblegum pop and dance sensibility cements these 12 tracks for carefree kiddy consumption ("Bob's Line Dance" swipes the boy-band sound, "Crocodile Rock" electronifies Sir Elton), and everybody but our-side-of-the-pond Bob purists will dig in. 5 out of 5 stars a parent friendly kids' album.......2006-11-10

My kids absolutely love Bob the Builder so I ordered them this CD. We listen to it often in the car and it isn't sickly sweet like so many preschool music selections. They also loved the DVD of the Bob the Builder Live Stage Show, it has many of the same songs.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite kids CD so far..........2006-10-30

Not that I like very many of them, but I might have to "borrow" this from my six-year-old while he's in Kindergarten and give it a listen on my computer speakers. This one is really fun! And, the remake of Crocodile Rock with the real Elton John is very cool. Who'd have thought Bob could be so cool?

Oh yeah, and my kids love it too. I ain't gettin' my hands on it as long as they're in the house.

4 out of 5 stars who writes the editorial reviews for Amazon.com.......2006-07-14

I was surprised at the editorial review:
"He may be an unapologetically blue-collar kind of guy, but Bob the Builder sounds awfully big for his work britches on his album debut. Since when does this crew carry on in British accents?"

Um.. since the beginning. Bob the Builder is a British Invention (just like the Teletubbies). People should check their facts before trying to be sarcastic on a public website.

5 out of 5 stars Great songs for anyone who likes Bob the Builder.......2006-02-25

Both of our boys are huge Bob fans. We purchased this for my 4 year old son's "Bob" birthday party. We all love the music. It's a nice switch from the typical preschool songs. They are fun to dance to and have a great beat!

5 out of 5 stars Be careful with your expectations........2005-09-27

Children's music doesn't sound like this very often. These twelve tracks are electrified and loud! It's not music to put your kids to sleep, or to show morals and good manners a la Barney. Plop this one into the CD player and you've got an almost non-stop 40 minute run of energy and fun. Some of these tracks are borrowed from pop hits of its time ("Mambo #5", "Dizzy!" and "No One Can Dig It Like We Do"), but they actually IMPROVE on their MTV counterparts: excellent melodies, brilliant performances by the actors (or you're going to tell me the North-American voices are better? Have you ever heard Yankee Wendy laughing?!) and an an atmosphere of enjoyment and fun that defies explanations. The more I listen to this, the better it gets, and I've been a fan of this album for months already. There are very, very few tracks that somewhat break the flow (the boybandish "Bob's Line Dance", and the fillerish "Super Spud"), and the ones that don't are excellent. "Right Tool For The Job", "Dizzy" and "No One Can Dig It Like We Do" are surefure hits, and look out for the intoxicating groove of "Let's Get Busy". And, yes, Elton himself appears on "Crocodile Rock". If you and/or your kids like Bob, and if you're not offended by the sound samples on this very site, be sure to pick it up. For one, this is music for kids that won't make you run away screaming after five minutes of music. And it's not too hard to enjoy it, honestly.

Finally, since several voices have actually changed in the USA version of the newest Bob episodes, the British voices probably won't be such a bother, after all.

5 out of 5 stars When's the sequel coming out?.......2005-08-19

I bought a used cassette tape of this album in desperation for a 3 year old boy going on a road trip. It took me a while to get used to the sound quality, which seems ever so slightly fuzzy to me, but other than that I have no complaints with this album. It's not whiney kids music, but it appeals to kids, especially fans of the Bob the Builder song.

My son started listening to this at age 3, and now, three years later, long after he's outgrown the Wiggles, it's still his favorite tape to listen to in the car.

I am always thankful for the makers of this CD, as well as to my son's other favorite James Coffee (of I Love Toy Trains fame).

The British accents don't bother my son at all, though personally I wish they'd chosen a woman with a slightly less chirpy voice for Wendy.

5 out of 5 stars Totally fun kids music.......2003-10-31

The writer of the editorial that introduces this CD doesn't seem to know that Bob the Builder began as a show in Great Britain. The voices on this CD are the original Bob characters from the UK. And, they are so much better than the American versions (not as whiny)! My 3-year-old loves Bob and this CD, but my almost 7-year-old, who's not a Bob fan, loves the music, too. If I were stranded on a desert island with one kids' CD, this would be it!

    4 out of 5 stars Bob Rocks!.......2002-05-10

This is the best album to come out of Britain in some time. Much better than Amnesiac or anything by Travis or Coldplay or Starsailor or any of the new next Radiohead/Oasis bands. This album is actually fun!

5 out of 5 stars Rocking Around the Clock........2003-04-24

This album doesn't contain much original music; most of the songs are familiar tunes reworded and remixed a little so that they fit in the world of Bob the Builder and are okay for children to listen to. However, the songs work exceedingly well! There are a few original tunes here, including the two songs that Spud sings. I also enjoyed listening to the re-mix of the Bob the Builder theme "Can We Fix It?" and the cast singing with Elton John on "Crocodile Rock" is a hoot. Some of my favorite songs on the album include:

    "Right Tool for the Job"

    "Dizzy!"

"What Can I Be? (Spud's Song)"

    "Let's Get Busy"

    "No Prob Bob"

Overall, a really good collection of music aimed at kids, but that adults will probably like just as much if not more.

The 'Bob The Builder Song' is a hit with our kids they think it's great, especially the boys. However I'm a little disappointed that the track listings weren't included in the information about this album. We live in an isolated area and rely heavily on full information for items we buy.
