Dragon Tales [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Dragon Tunes, the record, aims to fire up 2- to 6-year-old fans of the fantasy-fueled PBS show with a herd of uptempo original tunes, and it largely succeeds. Culled on the 20-track collection are good-timey, get-you-moving numbers such as "Wiggle Song," which invites movement and active listening through its directive to "Wiggle your fingers / Wiggle your toes / Wiggle your hands and / Wiggle your nose." Then there's "Touch," which has the keep-up-if-you-can lyric, "Touch your elbows / Touch your bum-bum / Touch your kneecaps / Try to keep in touch," as well as confidence-builders such as "Betcha Can" and "Try" ("And though you may be small / Each day you're growing up / And you'll be big and tall / 'Till then just strut your stuff"). Kids who carry a dragon torch for certain characters won't waste time fast-forwarding to "The Ord Shuffle," "Cassie," or the Zak-and-Wheezie-celebrating "Be a Dragon." Others will want to wag their dragon tails track by track, starting with the familiar-to-all opener "Dragon Tales Theme." Because the series devotes a segment of every half-hour show to singing and dancing, more than just the theme song will be familiar, though--something that serves to further the record's appeal. Another appeal-enhancing feature is the persistent presence of former Ohio Express singer Joey Levine as the songwriter. Parents who can recall such bubblegum hits as the Express's "Chewy Chewy" will likely chime in on Levine's cheery vibe. Like most kid-show soundtracks, this album is low on art, high on spunk, but given the instant grins it'll register, loving parents can't be helped from wondering, so what? --Tammy La Gorce

Wonderful, a real lifesaver!.......2007-06-21
I got this cd for my son during about three years ago on a vacation. He was three back then. He's almost six now, and he still loves listening to it, and so do we, his parents. No matter how many times we listen to it, it never gets boring, and we even got my 1 1/2 year old nephew into it. My son's favorite song on this one is "Cassie." Mom and Dad like "Hello," "Doodli-Do," "Wake Up" and "Hum."
Music for Children and Parents to Enjoy.......2007-02-07
This CD makes enjoyable background music for me as a parent, as well as containing songs that my son likes. There are several action-oriented songs that your child can follow ("get up on your feet", "stretch") to reinforce the names of different body parts. We have fun listening to this album. The best part? It isn't grating like so many other children CDs. I don't mind listening to this one over and over.
This is a great CD.......2006-03-25
The fun, zydeco songs on this are awesome. I've been telling all my friends how much I love it, they think I'm crazy, until they hear it!
Mr Levine does it again!.......2006-03-06
Dragon Tales and More Dragon Tales are vibrant and fun. With Joey Levine on most of the leads is fantastic. Not to mention the songs that are written by him. These CDs are a must for any Joey Levine-Ohio Express fan's. These CD's are not only great for kids, but for adults also. You will be singing along in no time. Have Fun!
Just like the TV show!.......2005-10-16
My son loves Dragon Tales and now we can enjoy all the fun songs during our car rides! The songs have a great beat and don't drive Mom and Dad nuts listening to 'kid' music! Great purchase if you child loves the show. We also purchased 'More Dragon Tales' which has the newer songs on it.

Customer Reviews:
Dragon Tales 1.......2007-05-25
I bought it for my grandchildren, so they are the ones that play it. But they do it over and over because they love it, and when I had the chance of hearing it, I could understand why. The tunes are most of the ones on the TV program, which are very catchy and sweet.
I highly recommend it, particularly if the children watch the "Dragon Tales" TV program.
LAZY TOWN.......2006-08-31
My daughter loves the DVD. It keeps her busy for hours. She sings and dances to every song. It is worth the money.
Another Levine Goody!.......2006-03-09
This is another great CD. Joey Levine is superb on the vocals. Lots of Ohio Express sounds on this CD. Especially the songs Flip Flop,Friends. Love the remix of Dance. This CD Dragon Tales is for any age. Have Fun!
great music.......2005-09-12
I gotta tell ya, alot of kids music drives me insane, but both Dragon Tales cd's are great. There is a wonderful mix of music from different eras and different cultures with simple lyrics my son can understand (he is three and sings and dances along like a madman). I highly recommend these. They never leave my car for our listening pleasure!
Top Notch II - Just as good and catchy as the first!.......2005-03-04
For those who remember my review about the first CD, you may notice that I have only one problem with it - it lacks the track "Count on a friend". Well, first of all, the second CD patches out the only problem with the first CD. "Count on a Friend" (listed as "Friends") is one of the tracks on the second CD. As for the other tracks:
"Main Theme"
Well, it's actually "Dragon Tales Theme" again. But I'm not complaining - no soundtrack CD is ever complete without the main theme, even if it's a sequel of the first.
"Friends"
Yep, The Big Kahuna. The only number missing from the first CD. And they even extended the song! This is the track that makes the CD worth getting and your Dragon Tunes soundtrack collection for Season 1 and 2 complete. Of course, there's more reasons apart from this track, too.
"Zak and Wheezie"
Another major complaint about the first CD is that it lacks an ode to the siamese twin dragon duo, Zak and Wheezie. Well, Fans of the dragon duo, rejoice! And what makes this song better, it's done "John Cougar Mellencamp" style, giving it the warm soft-country-rock feel.
"Cmon' & Blow"
A nice, pleasant, upbeat and motivational number. It's one of my favourites already.
"Hola"
It's the first remixed track of of the CD, although they didn't put it down as so. Practically "The Hello Song" with some parts in Spanish. My thoughts on it: Well, I've kinda got used to the Hello Song, so, this one's good too. Enrique, the new character on the show, also has a line in this track.
"The Pirate Song"
A nice pleasant number. Didn't really thought much of it at first, but it has now grown on me.
"Cyrus III"
A kinda okay track.
"Make A New Friend"
This track is about Enrique, the new character on the show. It's upbeat, and has the party atmosphere to it. I like it!
"Speak Up"
A nice, pleasant number. Anoter one of my favourites, if not my most favourite of the bunch.
"Makin' It Fun"
Another nice motivational number. Definately another one of my faves.
"Dragon Stomp"
A lively fun number. If you liked "Be A Dragon" from the first CD, you're sure to like this one.
"Flip Flop"
Another lively number.
"Shake Your Dragon Tail (remix)"
The first remix number of the CD if you don't count in "Hola". The song now has this techno feel to it and is really bouncy now. If there ever was a Dance Dance Revolution game featuring Dragon Tales songs, this one scores a 8 feet rating.
"Dance (remix)"
Like the "Shake Your Dragon Tail" remix, this number also has a techno feel to it. I'd still prefer the original version over this one, but this one's good too.
Overall, this CD is just as good as the original if not better. A lot, if not all of the songs, stick to your brain long after you stop listening, just like the first CD. I've had "Speak Up" and "C'mon and Blow" stuck to my brain since I woke up this morning", and I listened to the CD yesterday night!
If you already have the first CD, this one's a must get. Otherwise, get this one and the original. Having both around is worth every penny.

Customer Reviews:
Roly Poly Fun!.......2002-12-18
What a delightful recording! My kids love it. My daughter's favorite is the one about the runaway rice ball. Her younger brother's favorite is called "Grow Nose, Grow," which stars a Japanese badger named Mr. Tanuki. They have been singing the catchy "Bean Jam Sweets" tune for days now. We have it in the car and have been listening to it all over town. Personally, I love the sound of the koto - it adds a lot of atmosphere to the stories.

I have been a Dragon fan for many years, and this 2 CD set is one of the best encapsulations of their career I have ever heard. It contains all their big hits - April Sun In Cuba, Rain, Are You Old Enough, and shows why this group was one of the most popular Aussie bands of the 70's and 80's.
