Though known for his utopian idealism, Walt Disney's vision had a dark side that frequently evinced itself in the animated features that made his legend. But seldom was Disney's cynicism about human nature more heartbreaking than in his studio's 1942 adaptation of Felix Saltin's nature-based novel. The film broke new ground in several areas, not the least of which it's sparing use of dialog: Bambi contains less than a thousand spoken words. That alone placed greater emphasis on an orchestral musical score than had any previous animated film, and Disney vets Frank Churchill and Edward Plumb responded by composing a surprisingly modern, dramatically evocative soundtrack that would net the pair an Oscar nomination. Tragically, Churchill would die before the film premiered. Painstakingly cobbled together from a variety of pre-tape era source elements in conjunction with its DVD debut, this expanded edition of the film's score is the most complete yet. The quartet of charming original songs by Larry Morey and Churchill would get the latter his second Oscar nod on the project, and they are joined here by "Rain Drops," the energetic choral demo recording that became the film's charming "Little April Shower." The disc concludes with the recorded reminisces of Disney himself, legendary animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston and a concise musical analysis by Henry Mancini. --Jerry McCulley

Album Description

On their sixth full-length studio release Melt Banana exercise a hitherto undetected area of their musical musculature: the "rock" region. Summing up an entire album, and one as diverse as Bambi's Dilemma, with such a pedestrian qualifier is risky business, agreed, but it seems to fit like never before. The band, of course, refuses to accommodate any such pigeonholing: "Maybe it is rock, but maybe not. We just make whatever we want. We just follow our own instincts!"

1 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-06-23

Amazingly bad. I just saw these guys open up for Tool, and I couldn't believe it. I am open to new stuff, I like wierd things, I like non-conformity in music, but you have to at least have some musical talent to pull it off. To, me this band is like Primus, except without the talent. Thier love show sucked so bad, and I expected to hear some smaples of thier studio work and think "Oh, I get what they were doing, myabe I should give them another try," but thier studio stuff sounds even worse. In cocert, all we could hear was the guitar, could barely hear anything else, and could not hear her "singing". That was a blessing, because all she does is yell annoyingly.

I have not listened to a full studio album by these guys, but I think seeing a live performance is an even better indecation of a band's talent and musical ability. These guys are truly horrible. Nothing creative, no talent, pure crap.

5 out of 5 stars A great follow-up to Cellscape.......2007-06-01

This year I have been disappointed by the new releases of my favorite bands (Arcade Fire and Blonde Redhead). Not so with Melt Banana. They have offered up something with melody, noise, punk and pure chaos. In the best Melt Banana tradition! I had wondered if they could equal Cellscape. They have equaled or perhaps bettered it. There is not a weak track on this album.

5 out of 5 stars Can't stop listening.......2007-05-26

This might be the best Melt-Banana record released to date. Although definitely more accessible to the general populace than some of their previous, significantly weirder records, it doesn't mean that it is by any means boring. The straight ahead pop noise sound is complimented by much more mature composition and musicianship. The drumming is particularly notable.

Blank Page of the Blind might be my favorite song ever.

5 out of 5 stars The best MxBx yet!!!!.......2007-05-23

Anyone whose listened to Melt Banana before would know that they never dissapoint. Every one of their albums has been absolutley incredible, and every song is killer. This album is no exception. And in my opinion, the best one yet. Bambi's Dilemma has more of a rock and roll feel this time around, while still retaining those noise rock/grindcore tendencies. Yako's vocals are absolutely incredible, and Aagata(guitar) seems to be playing more actual riffs this time. All in all, if you like Melt Banana, you know what your getting. If this is your first Melt Banana cd, this is where you should start. And make sure you see them live, theres nothing like it.

5 out of 5 stars Different, but great!.......2007-05-14

I'm not sure what it is with people who automatically cry "sellout!" the second a band shows a stylistic shift. This album is a far cry from "Scratch or Stitch" and "Speak Squeak Creak," with its much poppier songs overall, but it's still great. Anyone who automatically throws this out because it's different from old Melt-Banana stuff just obviously does not welcome experimental change.

I guess it's true what the guys from Bad Acid Trip say in "Funbus."
"The craving for new is something to shun,
thinking is bad, it spoils the fun."

This album I got at Disneyland Paris. I saw it and just knew that I had to have it. It's classic disney tunes in the style of the great composers. And it really do remind of them. As a lover of classic music and disney music, this couldn't be a better album.

4 out of 5 stars A Disney Classic!.......2000-03-09

This cd is a great introduction for little ones into the world of classical music. My children ages 6 and 4 have "worn out" their first copy of this lively cd. If you enjoy disney music, this is a must for your children's music library.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful Disney Music.......2007-03-28

These Disney tunes done in the style of classic composers are so much fun. Children and adults alike will enjoy these songs over and over.

5 out of 5 stars Uncle Walt would be quite honored!.......2006-12-20

For many a baby boomer, Walt Disney meant animation. But, besides that, music played an important part in the telling of the story. So interested in music was the animator that he fashioned one of his greatest triumphs ("Fantasia") on the works of the great masters.

Well, Donald Frasier and a bevy of musicians have compiled a wonderful collection of interpretations of familiar Disney tunes, many from Walt's time, along with a few latter day compositions.

Every selection is a winner, destined to make the listener reflect and recall the films from which they came. And if one is familiar with composer whose musical style is "copied" here, the album is a treasure.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous CD.......2006-10-04

Being a classical music connoisseur, I often listen to my local public classical radio station to hear the works of the great composers of old and of today. One day the station played "Colors of the Wind" and announced it was from this CD. I fell in love with it. I am a huge Disney fan who has over 350 Disney songs on my iPod. Pretty much the only music I listen to is either classical or Disney. And having them combined makes this CD euphoria for the ears.

Each song is in the style of a different classical composer, and usually in the style of one of their more specific songs. One with a trained ear will hear chords and melodies in almost perfect similitude of the original.

I can listen to this CD over and over and never get bored. How could you be bored when you're hearing all of your favorite old Disney songs in a new exciting way?

4 out of 5 stars sleeping to Disney.......2006-07-30

I am really pleased that there is a classical music cd that has only Disney classics so that I can play them for my infant daughter while she sleeps. We are big Disney fans and it's fun to play these instead of the regular classical music. They sound just like the original songs. I would have given 5 stars but I wish they would have had all instrumental music, one of the songs has a choir singing, but it still sound good.

5 out of 5 stars this is a treasure.......2003-05-11

Disney music is always uplifting. Classical music is beautiful. Combine the two - and you get THIS! "Colors of the Wind" is glorious, followed by the enchanting title track. "Beauty and the Beast" is true to the romance of the original. "The Second Star to the Right" is magical. Everything is awesome - and flawless. I initially bought this because I love The Main Street Electrical Parade music, and that is definiely a highlight here - but so are ALL the other songs! This is GOOD STUFF! It is so excellent that it can be a very beneficial introduction to classical music - for kids AND adults.

5 out of 5 stars Bambi.......2007-05-13

My goal is to collect all of the soundtracks for the classic Walt Disney animated films. Bambi has such hauntingly beautiful music in it. I thought it was a perfect one to buy this time of year (Spring).

5 out of 5 stars What can compare with your BEAUTIFUL SOUND?!.......2006-03-31

I wanted to buy "Bambi" soundtrack before but it was unavailable. And now the remaster is here, so I can complete my collection of "Bambi"! It's so collectable and I'll NEVER miss it!
This is an exceptional Disney soundtrack, one of my favourite, one of the best! It's a perfect soundtrack with beautiful and cute cover at least! There are some classic and well-known songs from "Bambi", they're still so classic and welcome though more than 60 years have passed! My favourite song of "Bambi" is "Little April Shower". I love the chorus so much, and my whole family who love chorus and opera love this song too! This song is so vivid, especially when the thunder came up, it makes us feel that the thunder is right near our ears! "Looking for Romance(I Bring You a Song)" is a good song, it seems so romantic! Every time I listen to it, I always sing-along unconsciously! "Love is a Song" and "Let's Sing a Gay Little Spring Song" are not so good as the two above in my opinion, but they're still very exceptional in all Disney songs! The scores of this soundtrack was the most fantastic and most important part of the movie! The scores came up in these plots were perfect and my favourite: Bambi followed Thumper and his sisters, running and laughing through the forest; in Bambi's first winter, Thumper taught him how to skate; Bambi first met Faline when they were fully-grown! Those were some of the most successful scores of Disney!
What are you waiting for? It's not so easy to meet so FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL and ENCHANTED thing! LET'S PURCHASE!

5 out of 5 stars Come with your beautiful music.......2006-02-20

I love the movie, Bambi, and I love the music used in it, too. I love the way the music tells the story. Without seeing the movie, you still have a good idea of what's going on. I also love the choral groups that sing the songs - you can easily imagine raindrops, and even the wind, singing. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

5 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful.......2004-03-02

This is a great C.D.! Love is a Song is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It was nominated for an Academy Award that year. My other favorites are April Showers, Looking for Romance, Let's Sing a Gay Little Spring Song, and Wintry Winds. The booklet included with the C.D. is great.

5 out of 5 stars As Emotional an Experience as the Movie Itself.......2002-10-07

In few Disney soundtracks is the composer's gift better showcased than here. Much of the impact of "Bambi" was carried by music and visuals rather than dialogue, and playing this CD makes it clear just how much of your impression of this or any movie you get, unconsciously, from the music drifting out of your speakers. Tracks like "Everybody Awake," "Learning to Walk," "Little April Shower," "Gallop of the Stags," "Man," "Fun on the Ice," "Tragedy in the Meadow," "Bambi Gets Twitterpated/Stag Fight," "Man Returns," and "Fire/Reunion/Finale" fit the action so perfectly that you see the scenes replaying in your mind. Then there are the beautiful vocals "Love is a Song" and "I Bring You a Song," which should have sunk into the public consciousness the way "Heigh-Ho" (from "Snow White") or "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" (from "Cinderella") did. A beautiful score.

5 out of 5 stars Great music........2006-04-16

The music is so important to the feel of a movie. This is a beautiful soundtrack which complements the movie perfectly. Especially loved "With a Healing of a Heart" by newcomer Anthony Callea. Though only played during the credits in the movie the words hold the key to the whole story.

5 out of 5 stars i cried!!.......2006-03-26

OH mY goodness!!! If you are going to see the movie, I advise you also buy the CD! It is one of the best movies Disney has come out with and the song melodies and lyrics are touching and beautiful! Especially "There is life" and "Through your eyes". It is 100% worth the 12 dollars!

5 out of 5 stars Can Disney Get Any Better?!.......2006-02-24

I just bought this soundtrack yesterday, and I haven't stopped listening to it. I love the song "There is Life." It is so beautiful, like nothing I've ever heard. It gives me a warm feeling inside. I loved watching that song on the movie. I fell in love with it and after that I had to get the soundtrack as fast as I could. I also love the song "First Sign of Spring." It's a nice, happy song that fills me with joy. Now I can't wait til spring. "Sing the Day" is a really nice song too, but a little bit of it is a little confusing, but it's still good. I'm also glad that there are songs from the first movie, showing that we haven't forgotten it even the sequel's come out. Keep up the good work!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutly Amazing!.......2006-02-16

I think the score is absoluty beautiful, especially ther "There is Life" Song, which begins with a humming melody of one of the origenal songs from the first movie, which seems to show that they cared about how this movie went, and was not going to be just another whipped up striaght to video. And the "At the First Sign of Spring" song is a joy to listen to.
Grade A music, I must say.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful New Songs, Lovely Scores and Glorious Old Songs!.......2006-02-13

I bought this CD, and I can't help listening to it over and over again, because it's excellent just as how I expected!
There Is Life: 10/10 Beautiful melody and inspired lyric. "And the colder the winter, the warmer the spring. The deeper the sorrow, the more our hearts sing." At the beginning of this song was the melody of "Love Is a Song", and our memories flashback to the snowy winter in 60 years ago, and this song lead us into an all-new spring! I can feel the power of confidence while listening to this song.
First Sign of Spring: 10/10 A warm and spring-filled song, my personal favorite. This song has somewhat similar to "There Is Life", beautiful, inspired and confident. Besides, it gives me care-free feeling. "We will be together, leaving our cares behind forever at the First Sign of Spring." We can feel not only the warmth and hope that spring brought but also the strong bond between father and son.
Through Your Eyes: 9.5/10 A wonderful song filled with understanding! I was a little surprise that Martina McBride performed a song for Disney movie. "And I could show you secret trails if no one's ever gone. I bet you've got secrets too, so don't be shy, come on, come on." I think this is the warmest sentence in this song. And I think everyone can learn to love and understand in this song!
Healing of a Heart: 9/10 This song was not as good as the 3 above, but it's still so beautiful. It told us the importance of love and comfort. Yes, "Love lights the dark"!
Sing the Day: 10/10 Before I listened to this song, I've read the list of the songs in the CD, it was original written for the score "Being Brave". At first, I thought it was a little confusing. But after I listened to it over and over again, I loved it! It was so lively, we can feel the vilality of nature!
Scores: 10/10 The scores are lovely, especially "Snow Flakes in the Forest" and the 2 parts of "Being Brave", "Bambi's Dream" is exceptional too. But too bad there are only a little scores in this soundtrack. For example, the score came up when Bambi fought against the hunting dogs, was glorious, but why it's not in the soundtrack? How I wish all the scores in the movie were in the soundtrack!
The 3 old songs: 9.9/10 Needless to say, these 3 old songs are well-know to every Disney fan, and they were, are and will always be classic. "Little April Shower" is the best in my opinion.
Generally speaking, this is the best soundtrack of Disney's continuations in my opinion. Beautiful new songs, lovely scores, and always-classic old songs! However, if all the scores and the old song "Looking for Romance(I Bring You a Song)" were in this soundtrack, it would be perfect!

Album Description

In 1992, Francoise Cactus and Brezel Goring joined forces and became Stereo Total--a woman, a man, and an inexhaustible sparkling imagination, bent on international pop-electronic-disco-punk music takeover. "Do the Bambi" is the latest from this Berlin-based pop duo who have warmed the hearts of Americans for years with their provactive and endearing albums and live shows. Their songs are sometimes sung in English, sometimes French, German, or even Turkish. This is the first CD of all new material released on KRS. Three other records were re-issued on KRS to critical acclaim: "Musique Automatique", "Oh Ah", and "Monokini".

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Eurotrash.......2005-06-26

what's great about french pop music and german synth is that they are both entirely unafraid to be ridiculous and silly but not in that Southern California manner of idiocy that seems to pervade the US. these two (Francoise Cactus & Brezel Goring) have fun and do it with all the bells & whistles. whether it's writing catchy tunes about a lolita prostitute coveted by all men in passing cars (opener Babystrich) or the delightfully inane "I am naked" which reveals the stupidity of prudishness Stereo Total make you dance and smile AND NOT IRONICALLY.

seriously though, "La Douce Humanite," "Mars Rendez-vous" and their cover of "Chelsea Girls" should make this duo darlings. Even though Do The Bambi isn't as strong as Musique Automatique, their last american release, you could far worse than listening to "Das Erste Mal" until all the tired hipster party girls & boys go away.

don't be cool. listen & dance in the middle of your bedroom naked to this record

5 out of 5 stars Super cool.......2005-02-25

I saw this band a few times in New York City in 1997 and 1998. They seemed to be playing every other month for a while. I used to go to the club Vampyros Lesbos all the time. They played there. I had a few of their albums at this time. I even saw them play a show at Brownies. It was a memorable show. The 1990s were all about kitsch, post-modernism and revivalism. This exploration into Serge Gainsbourg seemed very fresh. This album seems like their most accessible in a while. "My Melody" was sort of sad. This album is obsessed with films. "Cinemania" recalls the recent film "The Dreamers." There is homage to Clockwork Orange. Most of the songs are in French and German, and a few in English. Brezel Goring and Francoise Cactus are good at what they do. There are a few more electronic sounds, on songs like "Cannibale." Many people have been in this band. They seem to break up every few years after exhausting tours. In ten years, they have done six albums and a load of singles. They are ambitious. It's not as serious as Radiohead, but it's very entertaining. Kids seem to like this music too.

5 out of 5 stars Academy Award winning soundtrack.......2005-08-19

This is a modern Disney original soundtrack restoration from the 1942 movie by master restoration producer Randy Thornton. He has taken music recorded in the 1940's, reconstructed it,and de-noised it so that it sounds clean and crisp. The song "Love is a Song" was nominated for an Academy Award but was beat out by "White Christmas" that year. The Score was also nominated for 'Best Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture category'. Long time Disney Studio composer Frank Churchill and Larry Morey wrote the 4 songs that had lyrics for Bambi, and had worked together on the songs for Snow White. The movie was made during the period when Walt was still very involved in every aspect of developing an animated feature, and Bambi was no exception. He pushed his composers hard to come up with the sound he envisioned. Bambi is known as "Walt's personal favorite". The feature had only 900 words of dialogue, so it was intended that the score and songs would carry the emotions and story. This soundtrack has less lyrics than any other Disney feature with the exception of Fantasia.

There is even a demo of a song that was not used in the movie included here as a bonus "Rain Drops" which influenced a later song "Little April April Showers". There is a great 15 page booklet with song lyrics, great liner notes, and terrific artwork from the movie. All total the CD lists 16 tracks and 53 minutes of music. Overall a gem of Disney history and very fun to listen to. These restoration CD's from Disney are a great deal being very affordable.

    Album Description

A moody debut from the artist whose song "Darlin'" is featured in Daniel Lanois' soundtrack to "Sling Blade". Included here is a sparse and lovely version of "Darlin'". The opening tracks feature multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey and guitarist Hugo Race, best known for their work with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Miss Savage demonstrates a great range as a songwriter, and whether she's singing dark rock, moody ambient, or tender love songs, strong melodies and emotionally vivid vocals are in full effect here.

I was browsing around the dollar bin at my local record store and I found this cd. I picked it up because I heard people compare this to Jesus and Mary Chain.

It does sound kind of like JAMC, except more poppier and the fact they got a cello in the mix! The best song on here has to be "Long Time Comin".

It's not too bad for a dollar, if you see it for the same price I did at your local record store, by all means pick it up!
