This album is more appropriate for Cadettes and Seniors but Brownies and Juniors would also enjoy this. This album contains the first recorded Girl Scout rap, now how about that for Girl Scouting! This is one rap song I would not mind having young girls listen and dance to its beat. This is another terrific album, okay, all the albums in this series are wonderful and worth owning. A total of seven languages including Maori (Pokare Kare), Surinam (Kyrie), Belgium Congo (Ira Congo), Hebrew (Shalom Chaverim), French and German in "Music Alone Shall Live" and English in "America The Beautiful" for one, are sung in this album. The Maori song Pokare Kare is very soothing. This album starts with the Sussex Campfire song, a perfect example of singing in "rounds". Singing Along the Open Road is joyful and the Thanksgiving Canon is an everyday prayer! Beautiful album!

I call this the WAGGS album because of all of Melinda Carroll's Girl Scout song albums, this contains the most songs spanning the ages in Girl Scouting: Girl Scouts Together, Our Chalet, The Brownie Smile Song, When'er You Make a Promise, Our Cabana, Make New Friends, Kum Ba Ya. Who else could sing the Girl Scout Songs with such fervor but the Girl Scouts themselves. Melinda Carroll is a singer and composer who started as a Brownie and later the troop leader of her daughter's Troop #755 from Daisies to Cadettes. She was honored as the National Songleader for the GSUSA in 2000. She is also a lifetime member of the GSUSA. Her melodic voice melds with the cherubic voices of Brownies and Juniors, the Cadettes and Seniors who sang with her to produce these albums. It will bring joy to every Girl Scout and Girl Scout leader. This album and the others in this series represents the fun and friendship in scouting and will easily bring back all the wonderful memories. It will be a treasured gift for any Girl Scout.

Amazon.com however, can do better with the $19.99 price tag of these albums since they are available through other websites for a lower price.

I was an active scout as a girl and my daughter recently started Brownies. Some of my fondest GS memories are time spent singing at camp. But as an adult, I remember so few of the words to all those songs. This series of GS song collections are wonderful...all the favorites are here and some of the ones I always wanted to learn but no one ever knew the tune/words. I've been playing the tapes in the car with my daughter, and she loves them. In fact, she is so enthusiastic, she has become her troop's "song leader."

The quality of the production is great and very up-tempo. Some have just the adult lead singer, buy most have some actual girls singing. My only complaint is that I wish the printing on the included lyric cards wasn't so tiny...learning all the words to the songs is tough when you have to keep referring to such a little piece of paper.

I bought my tapes at my local council office. We've played them so much, I'm thinking of ordering the CDs. If you want to have a great encyclopedia of GS songs, get the whole collection!

Jump right into the Circle of Love and just listen to the beautiful lyrics that define the Friendship Circle:

"In a circle of love,
In a circle of friends,
With my sisters I lift my voice;
And sing till the music ends."


I had to buy all the CDs in this series because my daughter finally joined the Brownie Girl Scouts after 3 years of trying to tell her to join the Girl Scouts. Of course she loved Girl Scouting the very first day she attended her first troop meeting. She is now bridging to Juniors. This series of CDs by Melinda Carroll are absolutely marvelous! They come with lyrics which by the way are also available online on the web. The rendition of these songs are fantastic and even more fabulous because these are real Girl Scouts singing with Melinda Carroll who herself was a young Girl Scout for many years and later a Girl Scout Leader. These CDs are great for learning Girl Scout Songs especially if you are still looking for a Song Leader. The best part of these CDs are the flood of memories when you hear these songs again. I cried! I remember all the wonderful years in Girl Scouting, the friendship, the camping, the fun and laughter, the skills and lessons learned, the wonderful leaders who dedicated their lives to teach me and my fellow Girl Scouts the meaning of citizenship not just of one's country but of the world and values that become a core of your being and finally living and breathing Girl Scouting that it is who you are, not a mere membership to an organization. For a mother the next best thing to do is to be a leader or volunteer.

The CDs have a vocal version and a Karaoke version which provides the melody while your troop can sing the lyrics. This CD is ideal for Brownies and Daisies. If you prefer songs for older Girl Scouts try the other volumes in this series. I recommend getting all the albums - you won't regret it.

    These songs will linger in your mind, like all the other Girl Scout songs and memories. This album includes songs that Girl Scouts of all ages will appreciate but most especially the Leader, since these songs are used for Girl Scouts ceremonies such as Bridging, Investiture, Camping, Saying Grace, Thanks and meeting new friends. They will not make you crack up like "Boom Chica Boom" or dumbfounded and tongue-tied like "Lu-la-le". These are the songs that bring warmth to your heart because they are associated with the most solemn ceremonies. My favorite song in this album is "Linger". Melinda Carroll sings it so beautifully. Listening to it reminds me of the last campfire circle I attended as a Senior. I see a clear picture of my Patrol spending the last night at camp. Our Patrol name was "Cheerful" and our tent was right next to "Joy" Patrol's tent. Our voices were hushed, so were our giggles after Taps, then we heard the Leaders' footsteps outside our tents as they prepare to sing the lullaby to each Patrol, "Goodnight ladies, it's time to say goodnight..."

    Girl Scout songs provide a fascinating view of Girl Scouting. It gives each girl a private and personal feeling yet one that is understood and shared by millions of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all over the world. When a Girl Scout thinks of the past, there is a faint smile in her face and an even bigger smile in her heart. A Girl Scout does not really want to turn back the clock to relive the times, as a leader she lets it live through her daughter and other young girls. Her wonderful and sweet memories are the best of all badges...

    This is supposed to be an album of camping songs, but I remember singing some of these songs at rallies and Girl Scout Get-togethers. This is a collection of fun songs, some I have not have heard in the 60's to 80's so they may be new. I do remember learning De Colores at a Spanish language class in high school, so this is one famous international song since I sang it one day and a few of my neighbors (men and women)joined me in the chorus. This album has the famous Lu-La-Le song. To this day, I still do not know what it means. This version has Melinda Carroll saying the names of some states like New York, California and Hawaii and the chorus of Girl Scouts modulating their voices as they continue to sing Lu-La-Le. This is truly a tongue twister and a melody that pops into your brain for no apparent reason, just as I found myself yesterday singing it outside our corporate offices while waiting for a friend. A lot of Girl Scout songs have the same effect. Unlike popular or classical music that one may hum unconsciously, one could not hum a GS song without thinking of scouting days. This album has the vocal and karaoke version and they come with printed lyrics.

    To date there are six volumes in this series all worth owning. This is a great series. I could not think of anybody else singing these songs other than Melinda Carroll and the hundreds of Girl Scouts who accompanied her in the albums, well, maybe another Girl Scout professional singer someday but right now it is a joy to listen to the GSUSA National Songleader of 2000.

    If Amazon.com makes the price of the CDs comparable to other websites, they may find more customers, especially if they offer a good price for the entire set.
