There's a reason we grownups never outgrow our dorm-room addictions to Bob Marley and secretly dig the "Arthur" theme song, and it's because the music's easy-breezy enough to make us feel like kids again. Which is why a collection of reggae for kids works so well; the drum and bass never met a kid it couldn't convert. What's best about this 1993 CD, the first in a series later culled in a four-disc boxed set, is that it's fueled by the artists: Cool ruler Gregory Isaacs kicks things off with a dreads-swingin', Jamaica-fied "Puff the Magic Dragon" (there's a song that cried out for a reggae rendition if ever there was one), and J.C. Lodge, Yellowman, Freddie McGregor, and Bunny Wailer follow in his open-toed footsteps. "Over the Rainbow," "Joy to the World," and "This Old Man" get the steer-it-up treatment, and it seeps out to anybody over two, grandparents included. Reggae done this right is as catchy as poison ivy, with reverse properties to curb the proliferation of pouting. A blast of pure sunshine wherever, whenever it's played. --Tammy La Gorce

Use Barney media as juice coasters........2007-06-12

We have a rule, no Barney-like music is to be played. Instead we look towards music the entire family can enjoy such as Dane Zanes, Laure Berkner, Devo2.0, etc.

My daughter received this album as a gift, and we found this a great CD for the family and to listen anytime (car trips, etc). My personal favorite is 'SAFARI' (which will sound VERY familiar to most of you.)

If your open to diverse music, you will love it. If you are closed minded to a certain type of music, time to change your listening preference not ony for you, but also for your kids.

Put's a smile on your face .......2007-06-03

I bought this album close to when it first came out, long before I had kids. The first time I heard it I listened to it several times.
It was, and continues to be, one of the most smile inducing albums I have ever heard. I love it, my kids love it. It's the only album that they could play over and over again and I wouldn't object!

I thought the words should have been a little clearer. Great music and a great beat, but a little hard to understand. Still- we love the variety!

This is great! I also purchased More Reggae for Kids and liked that even better. Sound track is excellent, far exceeded my expectations! (After all, it is a children's cd). Artists from my era that children from my daughters' era can enjoy. Extremely positive, upbeat messages brings a refreshing change to the songs they are usually singing from the radio! We all sing a long in the car and find ourselves singing them throughout the day too! I purchased both Reggae for Kids and More Reggae for Kids and love them both. They make great gifts.

My Boy loves this CD.......2003-08-14

My 2-3 year old son loves this CD, he learned how to sing "over the rainbow". It's reggae value is questionable but I can stand to listen to this over and over.

Reggae for Kids: Movie Classics takes the magic of Disney and ramps it up tenfold with 13 Disney movie themes and tunes from the studio's well-loved films--all set to five-star reggae interpretations. Some of these songs sound as if they were meant be recorded in the syncopated and lilting reggae form, especially Bunny Wailer's playful reprise of "Hakuna Matata," Don Carlos's splendidly rich "Zippity Do Dah," and J.C. Lodge's "Colors of the Wind." The latter tune is so inspired by Lodge's honey-coated vocal that the song's poignant lyrics translate well through the worlds of difference between European explorers and the Native Americans' honor of nature and spirit. Lodge's rendition ultimately communicates much of the myth embroidered in Jamaican music and religious beliefs. Like so many of Disney's deep and lyrical songs that create a place of timelessness where childhood never ends, these transported classics are effortlessly reborn--and rejuvenated--for any listener. Great for Adults too!.......2001-05-22

I heard this cd played on a local public radio station in Cincinnati back in late March and was moved to call the radio station to find out what the cd was and where I could find it....Amazon.com had the cd and I was thrilled that I wouldn't have to drive back to Ohio to make the purchase. The cd is wonderful for children and adults who grew up with Disney movies and songs.

Great Upbeat Album for Adults and Kids.......2006-01-03

I have enjoyed this record for 12 years, having purchased it 5 years before I had (or thought about having) kids, just because it looked cool and sounded interesting. I was not disappointed! I would pull this out to play for friends whenever I got the chance, and everyone loved it. With it's great rhyming and rhythm of favorite and new songs it's impossible to sit still, and just puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.
I now have kids, twins age 7, and it is their favorite album, they just love it. There are no inappropriate lyrics, and it's great to get them (and their parents) dancing. I would highly recommend it if you like reggae, and especially if you have children.

I ordered 3 "More reggae for Kids" cds and gave them to my grandchildren age 3 months to 8 years,and their parents of course. We are all reggae fans so we were all very pleased with the music and choice of songs.
I reccommend the cd highly!!

The Wiggles it aint!.......2005-03-21

This album is engaging both for mom and dad as well as our 3 and 5 year olds. I think the beauty of this is the these are not typical kids songs. They do however include lyrics our kids love to sing and messages or hope and love that make listening to this uplifting.

Not as good for kids as I'd hoped.......2000-06-07

My rating solely reflects this CD's suitability for my 5-year old. While the artists are very talented and this is a good reggae CD, I was a bit disappointed that many of the songs are not true kids' songs, but reggae versions of adult songs. I had also hoped more of the songs would encourage my 5 year old to sing and interact with the music - but he does not like this CD as much as his other ones. If you are a big reggae fan, then I would recommend this CD. Otherwise, there are much better unique kids' CDs to buy.

The Only Music my kids and I agree on!.......2003-10-15

I had orginally the Reggae for kids first CD when I had my first child. Someone had given it to us as a shower gift. My daughter got peanut butter all over it and so I went online to get another copy because we had loved it so much and in my search I saw that they had a box set with even more Reggae for Kids music! I love all the new songs that we have to play - Car trips are a breeze now. There is one CD that is all movie tunes from Disney movies. For my daughters next Birthday we are going to do a Carribian Themed party so we can play this music. This is a must have for anyone who loves good old reggae and has kids.

I heard about this CD from word of mouth...whenever I play it for my 11 month old daughter, she starts to dance up a storm...nice, clean children-centred lyrics with a lovely Caribbean and Afri-centric rythms...Loved it!

Me and my sister love Ringbang 4 kids music! Our mum got it for us when she went to Barbados, I think that's where Indra is born. We listen to our cd every day when we get home from school and we really like her voice.

We like all the songs, but our 2 favorite songs are Take time to give love and walking on sunshine. We love her because she sounds like she's a really nice person. Is she coming to Canada?
