Nursery Days

Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Guthrie was a wonderful writer and performer of songs for children. Fun songs which deal with universal events in the lives of young children are filled with whimsy and enthusiasm. Favorites such as Riding in My Car, Put Your Finger in the Air, and Howdido come with Guthrie’s suggestions about how parents and children can use these songs. "A delightful series of tongue-twisting nonsense songs packed with onomatopoeia." - L.A. Parent

5 out of 5 stars Timeless Songs.......2007-03-16

We sang these songs to our children. Now we're sending them to our grandchildren. These songs are among the best things Woody Guthrie ever did.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack of my life.......2006-04-22

This CD is incredible. My infant daughter responded to this so strongly that this is the single most played CD in our household. We live in the city so in order for my baby to get a good night sleep, we play this CD on repeat mode all night. Keep in mind, we hear it through the monitor too and still...not sick of it. Woody Guthrie is a genius. The songs are simple but exciting. He's got a great sense of humor too. Brilliant in every way, give this CD a listen. My guess is that you and your children will love it, even if folk's not your thing. (Side note, I listen mostly to 70's punk, new wave and British garage bands so this is no folky writing...I was a skeptic)

5 out of 5 stars Classic Songs for Children and Adults.......2005-12-23

As my two-year-old niece listened to "Wake Up" for the first time, her mouth opened wider and wider, and at the end of the song, she said, "MORE, MORE!" According to my sister, my niece had never had this response to any other music! When my sister started singing along with Woody G, my niece said, "No singing, Mommy." Apparently, she wanted to do some serious listening. I hope she gets over that stage soon because it's hard to resist singing along with these songs!

The tunes are pleasant and catchy, the language is simple, and there's lots of repetition and humor. No wonder my niece loves this CD; she can tell it's directed towards her. But we adults love it too.

5 out of 5 stars Classic, sweet old-time nursery songs.......2002-12-27

We received this for our oldest daughter at her first Christmas when she was not quite one year old. We love the songs! they are easy to learn and easy to sing and they are just so darned cute! She's nearly seven now, and the cd got into little hands (hers and her younger siblings) and has been damaged...we're replacing it, and I think we'll be looking into getting the "Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child" as well now that they are getting older! I still wake up my daughter with "wake up, wake-up, wake-up, wake-up!"

Beautifully classic old time blue grass nursery songs...just like my grandma sang to me.

2 out of 5 stars Not Exactly Our Idea of Enjoyable Listening.......2002-09-25

Always looking for music that our two-year old and we will enjoy, we thought that this Woody Gutherie might be it. I should have listened to the previews! Not for us, or as Chloe said, "BAD!" Repetitive, nasal-twang songs with no zip or much melody. I know Woody Guthrie is one of the greats, but this CD doesn't show us why.
