Beautiful!.......2006-11-08

Ever since my family and I went to Disney World in August 2006, my son has been smitten with Ariel from the Little Mermaid. He's such a little romantic (at 8 years old!), enjoying playing the "prince" to the princesses. (It's not unheard of for him to call a girl "M'lady", or to bow, or to kiss my hand. What a cutie pie!)

So when he saw the Disney Princess Ultimate Song Collection, he just had to have it.

This beautiful CD features 14 songs, 12 of which come from Disney movies. That is, it's not some imposter singing a new rendition of a classic song, but rather the original singer. So Jodi Benson is, indeed, singing "Part of Your World" while "Sebastian" sings "Kiss the Girl".

If you're a fan of the amazing music featured on Disney movies (e.g. Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, etc.), you'll LOVE this beautiful collection of dreamy, soothing songs.

Awesome album.......2006-06-24

I got this CD from my sister Harolyn. She had it to give away for Hannah Claudine's guests on her 9th birthday last year. It has all of my favorite Disney song which i think is timeless. This is a hit for kids parties. I personally sing most of the songs here. It brings out the kids heart in us. This is one collection you definitely have to keep. Happy listening!!

Good but is not worth collecting..........2005-09-02

There are many Disney Princess songs from films in this album, and they are familiar to Disney Princess fans, except "If you can dream". I think this album is not as good as "Disney Princess Tea Party", so I don't like it very much.

My friend has this CD, and we all love it. Whenever we have a party or are on a long car ride we listen and sing along, and have a great time.

my niece loved it!.......2007-06-28

Bought as a gift for my 4-year old niece for her birthday, this CD stays in my car for her use when I'm driving. She loves it and asks for individual princesses and we sing along. I don't know how many times we've listened to it already (4 or 5, I imagine), but I anticipate many more. It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to remember the words on my own. :)

A Perfect Princess CD.......2007-03-30

I want to start off by saying that if you're looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD, this is the one to get. This CD contains 12 tracks featuring 7 princesses (at the time that this CD was made, Mulan did not yet exist, in fact, the Disney Princess line itself did not exist). Unlike many other Disney Princess CDs, this one contains a *complete* collection of princess songs. That means that all the songs that any Princess actually sings is on this CD. No, not every song from every Princess movie is on here, but I wouldn't expect them to be, nor do I think that they'd even fit onto this CD. Something that's nice about this CD compared to some of the other Disney Princess CDs is that there is no subversive advertising. That means no mediocre songs from Cinderella V or the Little Mermaid X are on it. There aren't even any songs sung by non-Princesses, all the songs that are sung partly by others are at least partially sung by a Princess as well. One of the most interesting things about the album, in my opinion, is that it contains 'Home' by Susan Egan as Belle. In Beauty and the Beast, Belle has no large solo songs of her own, so they included this track from the original 1994 cast recording of the Beauty and the Beast Broadway musical. This addition makes the CD more interesting and does not at all detract from the quality of the CD.
Again, if you are looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD or just find the best one, I would encourage you to buy this one. The selection of songs is complete and there isn't any annoying, mediocre album filler. I highly recommend this Disney Princess CD.

Perfect for a Princess.......2004-08-24

I bought this cd for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She LOVES it! She asks me to play it every day and we both sing along to all of the songs. She has even picked up on the songs that she didn't know before she received it. I love it because now she is more interested in listening to the cd and dancing with me in the house than watching a video. In quiet times, she likes to sit on my lap and look at the pictures in the liner notes. The recordings are beautiful, it is the one children's cd that I can listen to over and over. If you have a little girl who loves princesses, this is definitely worth the money.

It's a very special CD includes the songs from Barbie's first, second, third and fourth movie. Ipe a new CD with the songs from Magic of pegasus, 12 dancing princesses and Island princess.

My daughther loves this DVD. She loves the songs and although some of the Princess and the Pauper songs have some of the dialogue from the movie, we don't mind. Secretly I like this DVD too :)

this CD was great. The princess and the pauper songs are fun to sing along with and the classical music was great. It good for kids to know the music from swan lake and the nutcracker. I really do want another one. maybe they should make another musical.

Granddaddy of the Hollywood studios, Paramount Pictures is rightfully proud of its century of contributions to both American cinema and the art of film scoring. But the first disc of this 43-track double-CD anthology merely hints at the studio's musical peaks, blithely skipping through its first seven decades in just 17 tracks. Indeed, the package as a whole seems more interested in marketing its post-'70s catalog of hits and blockbusters than it does in paying real homage to history and roots. Even rarities like Double Indemnity and The Lost Weekend are served up via modern budget-line rerecordings, as is Ennio Morricone's epochal Once upon a Time in the West). Contemporary recordings of Aaron Copland's rare score to The Heiress and Franz Waxman's great Sunset Blvd. fare better, but soundtrack fans may miss the originals. The studio's rich pop-crossover successes in the '60s are documented via Breakfast at Tiffany's "Moon River" and excerpts from Romeo and Juliet and Love Story, while successful franchises like Star Trek and Raiders also get their due. Too often the '90s-focused second disc only underscores some uncomfortable trends in contemporary scoring--orchestral nervous tics punctuated by booming crescendos, treacly piano Muzak--and makes one wonder if the music of The Rugrats Movie and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider are really film music milestones. --Jerry McCulley

Great Movies have Great Soundtracks!.......2007-05-10

If you love movies and movie music, you can't go wrong with this two cd Paramount Anniversary set.

Only Disc 1 Is Worth Anything.......2006-07-19

Normally I have a lot to say in my reviews, but not this time. The main problem with this collection is that all the most memorable film scores are just on one disc, with the second used mostly to play out stuff from the last ten years that, really, musically isn't very memorable and only includes three pieces anyone will recognize just because, like the movies they come from, they're based on old TV shows - The Addams Family, Star Trek, and Mission: Impossible.

And that brings up another problem. With all due respect to the late Jerry Goldsmith, who has provided some truly great classic movie scores, was it REALLY necessary to include TWO versions of the SAME Star Trek march in this collection? This seems evocative of the milk-it-for-all-its-worth attitude Paramount has had lately toward its now-tarnished crown-jewel franchise. Where's James Horner's theme music from Star Trek II and III? If they're gonna put Star Trek on here twice, they should have provided a little diversity. It wouldn't have taken much, I'm sure.

I'm sure that Paramount's had other films with far more memorable music (even Harold Faltermeyer's Top Gun Anthem could have helped on Disc 2). This just seems like a lazy attempt at something that really could have been great.

More of a propaganda CD.......2002-10-30

There are some really great songs on this 2 CD set. However, those really great songs seem to be lightly interspersed amongst a large number of forgettable songs whose main purpose seems to be to remind you of those movies you enjoy(ed) so much.

It seems a little odd to me that out of 90 years of film making the most memorable scores have been largely released within the last few years. I was pleased to find themes from the Godfather, Indiana Jones and Witness. I was perplexed with the inclusion of songs from Rugrats, both Mission Impossible movies (one would have been more than enough) and Tomb Raider (memorable???).

This is my own personal bias, but I do prefer movie soundtracks that evoke a feeling of excitement. With this collection I just couldn't get excited. I kept finding myself being let down by songs that didn't in some way complement the preceeding song.

There are certainly some great tracks here, but overall I was disappointed. My advise would be to look elsewhere.

Great selection of Film Hits!.......2002-09-25

This one was a pleasant surprise! I thought- how could any CD that had "Baby Elephant Walk" be all that good? This one is. Lots of great scores- classics and a few hidden treasures. After hearing the beautiful title score for "Children of a Lesser God", I had to buy the entire soundtrack - very soothing. There are a few that may seem too overplayed ("Love Story", "Raiders of the Lost Ark",), but most are a welcome addition to any compilation. Try NOT loving "Building the Barn" from "Witness" or the "Hymn to the Fallen" from "Saving Private Ryan". Hours of great listening.

Older recordings, main themes only.......2002-08-27

This is a great album concept, but I really wish Paramount had re-recorded these scores as they deserve to be heard. The tracks range from 1944 to the present, and the older recordings sound just like the cleaned-up older recordings that they are.

I would also personally have enjoyed more "secondary" music themes (otherwise it becomes like reading book summaries that always only quote the opening paragraph), and I could easily have done without the "pop" tunes (like Baby Elephant Walk and the Rugrats theme). In fact, it would have been very nice to listen to an album comprised of tracks chosen for their strong musical value rather than apparently for their box office and/or hit song popularity. But, to be fair, that may be precisely what draws some people to this CD set.

A Dream.......2006-11-10

To me, Grieg's music is very special. He uses so much color in his music like a great painter. Listening to his music makes me see the beautiful fjords and the mysterious mid-summer night of Norway. It also gives me a taste of the lives and emotions of the people lived there. His songs are treasures of art song literature. He is definitely the greatest composer Norway has ever offered.
This is my first CD of Bodil Arnese (soprano) and I just love her voice! It is clear, soft, colorful, warm and with a bit of melancholy. She sang with deep emotion and very good technique. I think her voice and the way she sings suit very well to Grieg's songs. On the piano is Erling R. Eriksen, who beautifully created the atmosphere of each song. I liked the interpretation very much and also the collection of songs. The CD has been very useful for me to understand and interpret Grieg's songs.
I really recommend Grieg music lovers to get this CD.

A great songwriter of love and the land........2001-03-22

Although they are consciously imbued with the Norwegian folk spirit, Grieg's songs are not a million miles from German lieder, and the composer's Goethe setting 'Zur Rosenzeit' (The Time of Roses) is as harrowingly melancholic as anything by Schubert.

Mostly, however, Grieg seems to breathe a crisper, fresher, lighter air. He excels in evoking natural phenomena - the ripples of a stream, the song of a bird, the grandeur of a mountain valley - and the movements of the human heart - the quickening inspired by first love, the despair wrought by absence and loss.

His great power comes from having the two reflect or embody each other, creating an idealised pastoral conscious of the seasons and loss. So even though most of the poems set are songs of love and nature; and although Grieg can exult in romantic ecstasy; there is an underlying sadness throughout, skillfully rendered in this recording by accompanist Erling R. i bought this based on good reviews i'd seen elsewhere on the net. these little songs are delightful, and the piano accompaniment is clean and lively.

the real treat here, of course, is bodil arnesen's voice- strong and gutsy on track #7 (tak for dit rad), soaring on track #10 (sloveigs sang), and joyous #22 (i liden hojt deroppe).

naxos has included a huge set of liner notes with all the texts in norwegian and english. it's a nice touch.
