Ants
Editorial Reviews
From Parents' Choice®
Joe Scruggs gets smoother and smoother. His comic, slightly off-the-wall, original takes on the worlds of children and parents are nonsensical and wise. Who else could come up with Two Thumbs Date, in which his right and left thumbs "go dancing in the pale moonlight" and "twiddle" the night away? And who else would give Rapunzel a Mohawk and Gretel a compass? Scruggs sings, too, about individualism, imagination, fears, and a father's wistful lament that his child is no longer a child (Can't Rock the Baby).

One of the 80s era-defining peerless albums.......2006-10-28
It's really hard to articulate the sheer sense of excitement felt upon the original LP release of this album - surely one of the best, era-defining, utterly peerless albums of the 80s - I can still recall unwrapping the shrinkwrap back in the 1980 and putting it on my turntable - ANTMUSIC, DOG EAT DOG, PRESS DARLINGS, on & on - the hits don't stop - a visionary, clever, hilarious, dead-cool amalgam of Bolan/Bowie glam posturing ignited with post-punk style and a dose of fable-like mythology - the look, the sound, the entire package came together for the first (and last time) here. Over 25 years later, KINGS still sounds more fresh, immediate, and just plain FUN that anything on the radio in 2006. Sad, but true. Now where oh where is the DVD anthology with all of the Ants' videos?!

Ants Invasion.......2005-12-30
This album, which held the #1 spot on the UK chart for most of 1981 (though only reaching #44 on the US chart), is simply Adam & the Ants' greatest achievement. It starts of with the fantastic, upbeat & ecstatic 'Dogeatdog', a UK #4/US #15 smash. The song takes a while to get used to, but when you finally get it, it will blow you away.
'Antmusic', a UK #2/US #14 single, was Adam & the Ants big breakthrough, & the only single that was able to reach a respectable chart position during the post-murder Lennon craze of christmas 1980. Being kept of the top spot by the songs of the tragically murdered prophet of his generation, 'Antmusic' nonetheless, broke Adam & the Ants internationally, & desrvedly so, for it is among his best & catchiest songs. New listeners, start with that song, for it will get you in the first listen.
After these two songs, the record suddenly gets very dark. Actually the album is a pretty dark affair, with 'Los Rancheros' & especially 'Feed Me To The Lions' bringing visions of a Bowiesque post-apocalyptic landscape to mind. 'Press Darlings' is another catchy classic followed by 'Ants Invasion' & 'Killer In The Home', that follow up the apocalyptic tension. 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier' itself, a UK #2 hit following the #9 placing of the non-album 'Young Parisians', is the strangest song on the strangest record. Indeed. There is nothing else to say about that song (later `Ant Rap' would follow up on this tradition of taking Adam & the Ants' weirdest songs into the UK top 3).
`The Magnificent Five', `Don't Be Square (Be There)' & `Jolly Roger' (the name signifies the direction Adam & the Ants would take on their next record) are somewhat average Adam & the Ants songs (though such a thing doesn't exist). `Jolly Roger' jumps from brooding to a parody of singalong every 15 seconds or so. They are all great songs, & carry the hilarious/apocalyptic mood up to `Physical (You're So)', a #19 hit in the US, but never released as a single in the Ant homeland of the UK. Truly one of his best songs, it is also one of his darkest, carried by a paranoid guitar feedback. It leads into `The Human Beings', another misty dark song, which scares you into laugter... or?... well, it sounded good. A strange chorus carries the tune & ends this most fascinating & brilliant album.
Adam Rules!!!!!.......2005-07-28
This album, like all the rest of his albums, ROCKS!!!! He will always be my favorite artist. If only Adam can see this, I'd wanna thank him for being one of the best entertainers of all time! Long live the kings of the wild frontier!!!
BOLAN OF THE 80'S.......2004-12-31
Along with Human Leagues "Dare" and Soft Cells "Non stop", Kings has to be the best album of the 80's, it is Adams masterpiece and sadley never matched. One of Adam's main influences was Marc Bolan which is very apparent in his work, I remember seeing him on Top of the pops in 1980 performing Dog eat dog, it wasn't some pop star miming to their latest record, this was a performance full of energy and originality, which paved the way for the New Romantic movement of the early 80's for stars like Human League, Culure Club and Duran Duran. I remember having the leather trousers, frilly shirt and a white stripe (and nearly getting beat up for it), it was a great time in British pop music, a great time for British youth venturing out to the clubs and bars, the guys dressed as Adam, Simon Le Bonn or as a Numaniod (Gary Numan) and the girls like the Human League girls and possibly the last time British youth had individuality. Personally however, Adam's follow up "Prince Charming" never did it for me, the two singles were great but he had really sold himself out to capture the under tens market which lasted a few months, however Kings of the Wild Frontier remains a great snap shot of a great period in British pop fashion and movement.

Not the Best of the 80's.......2007-06-09
This CD just seems to be lost. The music is not that great.
It was the look of Adam Ant that sold. And that isn't much important to your ears.
Sorry, I don't recommend this fake put on.
I'm not big on pirates either.
I love this CD!!!.......2007-03-11
I bought this as a replacement for a record album (vinyl LP) and I am very pleased with it. The sound quality is excellent. Don't buy this for the extras (demo stuff), they really aren't worthwhile. Get the Stand and Deliver DVD with all the music videos from amazon.uk I am not expecting a US release of that DVD.
Three hit singles & the rest a mess - "Naughty North...Sexy South!".......2006-10-28
Coming off the impossible-to-match KINGS OF THE WILD FRONTIER, a peerless example of one of the best albums of the 80s, Adam, Marco and the posse had a lot to answer for in this miscalculated, muddled follow-up that's more facile sell-out than artistic statement - still, if you stick with the addictive, outlandish trio of hit singles...well, at least hits in the UK (STAND & DELIVER, ANT RAP, and PRINCE CHARMING), you'll do fine. It's really the brilliant campy kitsch of the VIDEOS that puts these songs across - now I just wish Sony would sort it out and finally, finally, finally reissue ALL of the ANTS' videos on DVD to replace the musty, moldy VHS tape that'll have to do until then.
The record that trought the Ants jaggernaut to a screeching halt........2006-09-27
Impossibly bad. Unlistenable. Adam (with or sans the Ants) made some fun, catchy, interesting and enduring music, but none is on this album (except "Stand and Deliver" which was, is, and always will be brilliant fun.) A betrayal and a swindle.
Hope you remember how to do The Prince Charming..........2006-04-23
Generally the weakest of the three original Ants albums the remastering job does the album some justice. Songs really stand out now where in the past they sounded much flatter and dull.
Especially "Scorpios", "Mowhok" and "Mile High Club" - they were always the weaker ones (to these ears). "Picasso Visits The Planet Of The Apes" (talk about kitschy brilliance) still sounds amazing and psychedelic. "Prince Charming" still sounds like one of the most unusual No. 1 singles of all time (in a very good way). "Stand And Deliver" (also an odd No. 1 single) is still one of the best singles to come out of the early 1980's. "Ant Rap" is still one of the campiest singles to come out of the early 1980s's (although it does make me giggle quite a bit).
"Five Guns West", "That Voodoo!" and "S.E.X" (complete with the unlisted "The Lost Hawaiians" song after it) still sound like great, weird psychedelic Summer songs.
The bonus songs are also pretty interesting from the silly chorus
of "Who's A Goofy Bunny Then?" (which evolved into "Libertine" from Strip) and "Showbiz" (which mutated into "Crackpot History And The Right To Lie from Friend Or Foe). The demos are a bit trebley as they were only intended as demos to only be heard by the label in presenting new songs. They remain charming nonetheless. As is the entire collection.
(Prince) Charming Nonetheless.

good chronical of the ants.......2006-03-02
The song selection spans the Adam and the Ants period as well as the Adam Ant period. Dirk Wears White Sox is overrepresented. Adam's more recent stuff, i.e. Room At the Top, came after this compilation. It is not digitally remastered so the quality isn't the best. I've enjoyed it.
"I spend my cash on looking flash and grabbing your attention.".......2005-11-01
The VHS tape "Adam Ant: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone" includes videos of 13 songs from Adam and the Ants made between the years 1980-1985. Songs include:
1.Kings of the Wild Frontier
2.Dog Eat Dog
3.Antmusic
4.Stand and Deliver
5.Prince Charming
6.Ant Rap
7.Goody Two Shoes
8.Friend or Foe
9.Desperate But Not Serious
10.Puss N' Boots
11.Strip
12.Apollo 9
13.Vive Le Rock
While Kings of the Wild Frontier is performed in the studio, the other 12 songs are music videos. Several of the videos are based around popular fairy tales, and these themes are perfect for Adam Ant's flair for theatrics. Who can forget Adam Ant as a highwayman or as a medieval knight? Prince Charming is perhaps the most elaborate music video and includes Diana Dors as the Fairy Godmother--with flashes of Adam Ant dressed as Clint Eastwood, Alice Cooper, Rudolf Valentino, and Marlon Brando.
The music videos allow Adam Ant to show his acting ability, and he really hams it up at times--once even standing next a huge bodybuilder. Fans will remember these videos from MTV, and it's great to see them again compiled together in this 50 minute VHS tape. While the images are not crisp and clear, the quality is not bad (the first sequence, Kings of the Wild Frontier, is the poorest quality). There are also a lot of good close-ups. So here's Adam Ant once more--with all his wild energy, and zest for life. Will there be a DVD release? Let's hope so, but in the meantime, this VHS tape is staying in my collection--displacedhuman
Truly the Best of Adam Ant!.......2005-09-14
This is the definitive best of collection that you're looking for and includes such gems as "Goody Two Shoes", "Beat My Guest", "Antmusic" and (my favourite) "Place in the Country". It also includes some really good obscure stuff like "Ant Rap" and "Killer in the Home". But as with any collection, it's missing some of my favourite gems; particularly "Never Trust A Man...", "Plan Nine Failed", "Physical", "S.E.X", "Picasso Visita...", and "Miss Thing". Short of getting the Antbox or all the individual albums (which is always recommended!) this is a great starter kit. Also check out "B-side Babies" which has an excellent selection of B-sides.
Don't you ever stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome!!!.......2005-07-20
I loved it! It's been a while since I've seen some of those videos. Adam knows how to entertain! My favorite videos of all time are Stand & Deliver, Prince Charming, Antmusic, Goody Two Shoes, and Desperate but not serious. Adam is the king!!!!
Good early compilation of Antmusic.......2005-03-22
This CD is great for those of us who loved Adam Ant in the early 80's. Before "Goody Two Shoes", most of his music did not make a dent on the American charts. But those of who loved European imports at the time still sought out his music. We loved his outrageous style and clothes. This CD contains a lot of those early favorites including "Antmusic", "Stand and Deliver" and "Prince Charming". Then the hits came with "Goody Two Shoes" (#12 Hot 100), "Desperate but not Serious" (#66 Hot 100), and "Strip" (#42 Hot 100). The CD also contains later songs that should have been hits including "Puss 'n Boots", "Apollo 9", and "Vive Le Rock". Why all of his songs weren't Top 10 hits in America is unbelievable. The CD stops with the "Vive Le Rock" album, so it does not include songs like "Room at the Top" or "Wonderful". It is certainly not a complete collection, but it does offer up some of his best early music.

Four Out of Six Ain't Bad.......2007-02-09
This release contains four very, very good songs that should be heard if you have an interest in jazz that relies heavily on the blues. "Chant of the Soil" is very bleak, suave and wary of its surroundings, like one of the big cats marking its territory. All four of the good songs ("Chant...", "Innocence," "New Dance," and "Sunshine Song" have similar formats. Garbarek's horn is absent in the intro and Jarrett plays off of the bass and drums with arrangements that serve both as intros and improvisations. This approach is very good because it eases you into the song and breaks down the standard jazz format. It's more of a blues format actually, where the instrumental intro leads into the vocals, in this case Garbarek's saxophone, which performs both vocals and instrumental improvisations. In all four songs, Garbarek gets carried away in his improv, with altissimo extensions that suddenly come soaring down into the lower registers and then back up into the altissimo range.
All four of the musicians come ready to play and the four compositions mentioned offer plenty of room for them to do so. In "Innocence," Jarrett's right hand offers the steadiness of the Godhead and his left hand fumbles around beautifully for the chords that make up this song's exquisite structure. The left (human) hand gains confidence from its discourse with the right hand and, by the time Garbarek's improv comes around, Jarrett has set up a foundation from which the shaky human spirit can be propelled into the realm of the immortals. Even with Jarrett's virtuoso keyboard skills, this propulsion cannot be achieved via the piano because it is by definition a percussion instrument. Only a wind instrument can perform a comprehensive purge because only a wind instrument can empty itself completely of all of the sounds it is capable of making, with seamless fluidity, in very short order. Garbarek does this flawlessly and his sheets of sound are incredibly well-executed. With our human needs temporarily met (transcended?), we become absorbed in the Godhead and share in its innocence.
On "Sunshine Song," Garbarek does with the tenor what he does with the soprano on "Innocence." His performance on "Sunshine Song" defines a summit beyond which there simply is nowhere to go. (There is a high note even Garbarek can't go beyond and we are reminded that the human infinitude is the one that achieves great significance from the fact that it occurs within stern limits. If we could live forever, life would lose 99% of its significance.)
"New Dance" rolls along like a speed boat and you emerge drenched and happy.
"Procession" and "Oasis" do not impress me, with the caveat that "Oasis" has a beautiful core melody, which is not developed well. It has a stutter-step clumsiness to it that is charming, but the quartet tries to move forward into the elaboration without the alterations necessary for movement. Garbarek finally gets nutty and blows the roof off with some soprano sheets of sound and this nudges Jarrett briefly into a groove that works. But then it's back the monolithical straight jacket, in which none of the musicians can move correctly. Jarrett's weak ending to the song shows how lost even a great improvisationist can get when all of the white keys suddenly look the same. At least Keith is having a great time.
"Solstice" on the "Belonging" release achieves what "Processional" and "Oasis" fail to do. It is also a funeral march of sorts, but the format is so refined that the elaboration simply cannot get cluttered and sloppy. It is during the dark night of the soul that conversion takes place and "Solstice" provides some beautiful night bloomers. And, for all of its diversities, it never leaves the groove, one that, at the end of the song, has Jarrett swirling at the top of his harp, Garbarek fluttering about near the bottom of his tenor and Christensen performing magic with his cymballs.
Needless to say, I like "Belonging" too.
Sexy Ants.......2007-01-09
There is lot of good energy and beautiful music on this double live album, including the 30 minutes "Oasis". Recorded at the Village Vanguard in New York in 1979. Jarrett is accompanied by his European Quartet; Jan Garbarek on Soprano and Tenor, Palle Daniellsson on Bass and Jon Christensen on Drums. Jarrett dominates most of the music, but Garbarek's unique floating tone and the subtle accompaniment of the rest of the band is sure noteworthy.
A live album very much worth buying; Highly recommended for all Jarrett's fan; however if you are new to KJ's music, start with "The Koln Concert" instead.
Another well recommended studio album For Jarrett with his European Quartet would surely be "My Song".
"Oasis" what can I say?.......2005-03-02
I'll be brief. This performance at the Vanguard is incredible! I just want to say that the piece "Oasis" in many ways changed my life when I first listened to it in 1979. There is so much force and energy from Jarrett and troupe. It is indeed spiritual and exhausting. Bravo..............
Amazing Live Album.......2002-02-10
"Nude Ants" is a true classic in Keith Jarrett's prolific live recordings. With his "European" Quartet, Jarrett released some very fine albums("belonging," "personal mountains"), one brilliant record("my song")before moving onto a Standards trio, more solo improv, and classical work in the 80's. But this 1979 album, recorded live at the Village Vanguard, is truly a live masterpiece. Jarrett contributes the 6 wonderful, and sometimes far-out compositions, which spring the band's amazing interplay into uncharted(but highly listenable)territories. Jan Garbarek is capable of a unique, beautiful tone or an angry snarl on Saxophone, while drummer Jon Christanson and bassist Palle Danielsson keep things funky and interesting. Jarrett is in superhuman form here, playing wild gospel, dark middle eastern, or bill evans esque chord voicings(in his own original style of course). Be warned:Keith was in a good mood-meaning there's alot of moaning, groaning, screeching and sighs here. It's not hard to ignore, and it actually proves the astounding energy of some of the tracks. "Chant of the Soil" is a menacing funk, with some great solos from Garbarek and Jarrett, and a wonderful percussion and drum duet between Christanson and(i believe) Jarrett towards the end. The energy on this one is infectious. "Innocence" is beautiful, Debussy like ballad, which shifts moods brilliantly. "Processional" is Jarrett's acoustic jazz version of Miles Davis' "He Loved Him Madly." Dark, and gloomy, this track is a group-improvisational triumph, with many different sections and interludes. Disc 2's opener "Oasis" continues the lenghy, slightly dark interplay of "Processional" this time with the music of the Middle East for inspiration. This is maybe the most complex and strange track on the album. "New Dance" is a joyful sophistacated jam, and a highlight of the album. It's also the title track if you think about it..."Sunshine Song" is homerun number 6 as compositions go on this album. Beautiful and haunting, is it a fitting closer for a somewhat dark live album. Overall "Nude Ants" isn't the place to start if you want to hear Jarrett's "European" quartet, but it is a funky, funky live album.
keith reaches the depths of inner emotion again.......1999-10-01
john christinsan is at his best, he plays more of the drum than in any of his other recordings with keith and his european quartet. tracks innocence & oasis from the personal mountains album are taken to new depths and brilliant heights

Ants.......2005-08-02
Not as good as some of his other CD's. We really like Deep in the Jungle as a family.
Joe Scruggs is a favorite in our house!.......2003-09-26
I first heard of Joe Scruggs because one of his songs was on a cassette we received as a gift for my son's 2nd' birthday. We loved it instantly, and I was delighted to come across one of his tapes (Ants) at a garage sale for a dime. It was an instant favorite in our house, and we've been collecting the rest of his music since then. My 2 older kids are big fans (they are 2 and 4) and I find myself singing along as well. The lyrics are funny enough to put adults into stitches, and catchy tunes get the kids singing along as well. I even get teary-eyed when I listen to Can't Rock the Baby. I highly recommend this music, as well as anything else from Joe Scruggs that you can get your hands on.
Great Songs for Kids and Adults!.......1999-10-03
I second all of the comments of the first reviewer. I'm so impressed by the quality of the songs and how my kids respond so positively to them that I decided to buy more Joe Scruggs CDs. They are well worth it!
The music pleases parents as well as kids........1999-08-20
The music on this album is a wonderful tribute to the imagination and creativity of kids. We all know that kids look at the world differently than we do and Joe Scruggs puts their point of view to music. "Rapunzel Got A Mohawk" is a wonderfully wacky song that puts a new spin on old fairy tales. The song "Not Fair" shows that Joe really understands where kids are coming from as the theme of this song is if I'm not getting my way then it's just not fair (that's a familiar phrase around my house). Joe also appeals to a childs wacky and irreverent sense of humor with the song "Big Underwear"....he makes dancing in big underwear sound so much fun I'd like to by my own pair. This album is a must for children in the early elementary grades. Parents will enjoy it too.

A Review From A Fan.......2006-01-22
First of all dont listen to a guy that likes guns and roses to review this cd for you, this guttermouth cd might not sound like it but they are still punk, yes they change there sound they just added alittle metal, everybody thinks just because they went to Epitaph's lapel they did this. but go to one of there shows its still the guttermouth we all like just with some metal influence songs
This album is no good.......2005-03-18
I listen to Dire Straits, Guns N' Roses, and more other bands.
Guttermouth's voice is way more terrible than other bands I've heard. I got this CD because I'm Destroying the World had some
of the greatest music of all time and other than that, the cd is
not anything good. The music is totally terrible. Way underatted.
There are many other albums in the world that are much better and
this one's not worth it. Skip this, and buy some albums by better
artists. This is definatly not one of the best bands ever! Never
great and don't buy it anytime.
First Guttermouth cd i bought........2003-02-22
This is the furst guttermouth cd is bought. I really think that track 2 is wicked. This album is basically worth getting for that one track. As for the others, after musical monkey, guttermouth only got worse. So if you liked Gorgous, get this , but if you didnt like how they changed their sound, this is more of the same so steer clear.
NOT Guttermouth's sell-out album.......2002-01-14
First of all, this Guttermouth CD is NOT pop-punk. "She's Got the Look" could be described as pop-punk, but it is no way near as bad as Blink-182 - at least it's funny, unlike Blink-182's songs.
Also, Guttermouth are not selling out with "Covered With Ants". It'll still be a couple more albums til they do so, as they have kept up their reputation for funny music with "I'm Destroying the World" and "Chug-a-lug Night".
This CD has three of Guttermouth's best songs ever - the first three songs. "That's Life", which just sounds cool, and "Can I Borrow Some Ambition?" and "Secure Horizons", which are really fast, though the lyrics could be better.
If you're new to Guttermouth, get "Musical Monkey" or "Teri Yakimoto" first, then get this. Not what Guttermouth fans expected, but really good.
A New Guttermouth.......2001-08-25
In Las Vegas, Guttermouth played a free concert in Tower Records the day this album came out premoting it. I went to the concert and it was really good, even though it was cut short by security, and I believe the only song they played from this album was She's Got The Look. I purchased the CD at the Tower Records and when the concert ended I went home and listened to it. I was quite surprised with what I heard. This is not in any way a bad album, but it doesn't match up with albums of their past shuch as Musical Monkey and Teri Yakimoto. Also I would like to add I don't consider this at all Guttermouth selling out, now there on the same lable as other punk bands such as Pennywise. If you are in the market for a Guttermouth CD, make sure you get Musical Monkey, and maybe some time later, Covered With Ants.

Album Description
Digitally remastered reissue of the New Wave act's debut album, originally released in 1979, Before the face paint, pirate outfits and theatrical performances and videos, Adam and his early Ants were Post-Punk art rockers covered in a dark, Gothic glaze. The tracks here capture early Adam in all his twisted glory, approaching Punk from different angles and creating an eclectic album that sounded like no-one else. Abrasive to some, engaging to others, Dirk Wears White Sox is an extremely creative and exciting artifact. After this album, half of these Ants went onto form Bow Wow Wow and Adam then put together a new version of the Ants that would become hugely successful barely a year later. Features seven bonus tracks, 'Whip In My Valise', 'Kick!', 'Physical', 'Cartrouble (Parts 1 & 2-Chris Hughes Mix), 'Friends', 'Cartrouble' (Single Version), & 'Kick' (Single Version). Sony.

Adam Ant--Punk Style.......2006-07-27
I have been a fan of Adam Ant since 1980. I saw the Jolly Roger video on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, in the middle of the night, on a snowy TV. It was love at first sight!
Although the Kings of the Wild Frontier LP is what reeled me in, Dirk Wears White Sox is closer to the bone...Adam's original sound. I think of the two LPs as two personalities. After Prince Charming, his sound changed even more so. Friend or Foe was great in its own way, but was a departure from Adam's original brand of "Antmusic for Sex People". Dirk Wears White Sox is more punky, raw, and off the commercial path. This release also has a few extra singles and different versions of songs that were originally released on an EP. I remember having to order these from the UK as a teen.
I owned DWWS on CD, but when I saw the re-mastered issue with the EP material, I bought it again. Now, I can finally part with my useless vinyl versions! The sound is fantastic and the liner notes have the lyrics--Adam was always good about that.
I love each song on this CD--I have had the opportunity to listen to them for over 26 years.
Adam's music is teeming with sexuality--God bless that man! Though he isn't vulgar, and is quite tame by today's standards, parents may get some odd questions from their child after listening to "Whip in my Valise".
If you are more a fan of the "Goody Two-Shoes" sound, this CD may sound alien to you. If you have only heard Adam's later music, then you are in for a treat. It surpasses his commercialized releases: Viva Le Rock, Manners and Physique, and Wonderful.
Buy this CD. If you don't like it right off, give it a fourth or even fifth listen before you send it to the dung heap. Any serious fan of Brit-post-punk should love it. Any fan of Adam's should know his roots.
I'm a friend of a friend, but you don't know me........2006-01-29
Adam Ant's first album is a do-it-yourself light punk, pre-new wave album. It is simple and straightforward with flashes of humor. It's unlike anything else he did that followed. As such, it's an okay debut as far as debut albums go, and it's just okay as far as Adam Ant's catalogue goes. There are few gems here on "Dirk Wears White Sox" in terms of melody and memorability. I actually prefer the truncated remixed version of "Cartrouble" at the end of disc. Aside from that, there's "Zerox" and "Friends". There are a few other close calls with "Cleopatra" and "Catholic Day", but overall you have to be a hardcore punk/Adam and the Ants fan to really appreciate this one.
The digital remastering is excellent, the packaging is digipak with photos you haven't seen before and an excellent graphics design concept that spans all the remasters unifying them perfectly. There are actually eight bonus tracks, not seven. At 71 minutes, I found this album to be slightly overlong in terms of listening to it all the way through.
Overall, a good beginning.
worth a listen.......2005-10-25
Definitely not like Kings of the Wild Frontier or anything after. At times it has the makings of a pure post punk album and other times reminds me of Trent Reznor(Whip in my Valise). It's not my favorite album but is definitely worth listening to. I would recommend that fans of Dismemberment Plan and Lou Reed give it a listen.
Dirk Wears White Sox.......2005-08-27
While it's good that the original U.K. version is represented here, as well as 7' single versions, I am disappointed with this release. The remastering process should enhance the sound quality of a cd, not add unwanted noise. Often, when older music is remastered, the person at the controls seems compelled to increase the volume higher than was on the original. The result of this ignorant practice is extraneous noise on the final product. I like my cds to sound crisp and clear, this one does not.
Tastefully, respectfully, and very well done.......2005-03-20
FANTASTIC! And, at last!! This remastered reissue finally gives us Dirk Wears White Sox on CD; all the original songs in their correct order. The mastering retains the dynamics of the original mixes much better than the earlier CD version on Sony/Columbia's Rewind imprint (and sounds infinitely better than the American version with the color cover). It has much of the musical feel of the original vinyl; other reissues just didn't - pardon the pun - 'do it' for me. There are some great photos, and the graphics are all very crisp. The only thing that I've found to complain about is that they failed to really nail the definitive version of the Antmusic EP (aka "the B-sides") in the bonus tracks -- the version of Kick that appears here is an alternate mix or something. It's inclusion is interesting as an obscure track, but the version that appeared on the original vinyl is unquestionably superior. The real bummer about this is that the only other place where Kick appears on CD is on "In Bondage", and the quality there is disappointing... But anyway, I can't express what a joy this CD is to have and hold! If you're curious, really, there's no reason not to buy a copy of this album. It's a real gem.

Ants Marching RULES!!!.......1999-09-04
"Take these chances, and place them in a box until a quitier time, lights down, you up and die" They are the most catchy lyrics from one of the best songs by Dave Mattews Band if not the best song ever. 5 out of 5!
WHERE IS THIS CD IMPORTED FROM?????????.......1999-07-26
Dave Matthews Band is an American band. Why are there imports of American bands and why don't record companies make normal CD singles so fans don't have to spend 10 bucks on a CD that SHOULD cost 3 or 4???????
Great Stuff.......1999-06-14
I bought both of his CD's and I think his music is great. His lyricks are very meaninful to me and whenever I listen to his music it puts me in a good mood. I hope he keeps up the good work
One of the best songs by the best band........1999-04-08
This CD might look boring but is very uplifting. Dave Matthews is THE band of our time. The melodies on this album put you in a good mood and wake you up on those rough Monday mornings...3 times. Great band, great song, great buy.
This is among the bests of Dave's songs.......1999-03-24
I've been listening to Dave for years even when he was just a local. It amazes me that it took so long to get the recognition he deserves. Dave has no doubt put together a band of the finest artists in the world.
