Funny 50's & Silly 60's
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Except for Weird Al Yankovic, pop music today suffers from a severe lack of the novelty rock or pop song or spoof. Listening to the Re-Bops unearth the lost treasures of noveltyland from the 1950s and '60s, one can't help but wonder why the form has fallen on such hard times. Here there's not only a first-rate collection of oddball songs but some insights into the period as well: "The Martian Hop" and "Purple People Eater" were hits at the dawn of the space age, light years before there was any talk of alien abductions in the culture. On the flesh front, "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" serves up a tiny bit of body talk. Then there's just the rich throwaway lyrics of "Wooly Bully," "Surfin' Bird," and the truly ga-ga thrills of that real nonsong "Mah Na, Mah Na," whose nonsense lyrics are a cross between scat singing and baby gibberish. Add "Name Game," "Witch Doctor" (made popular again recently by the first Rugrats movie soundtrack), "Yakety Yak," and others, and suddenly old novelties seem brand new again. Loads of fractured fun. --Martin Keller

Some things never go out of style.......2006-07-02
My kids (5 and 7) LOVE this. Original hits by original artists that are upbeat and fun. Only wish they included the Monster Mash and I would give it 6 stars!
Loads of fun!.......2001-10-15
This is better than the garden variety music CDs aimed at kids these days. As many of you know, those Elmo songs (among others) really drive you nuts, but when these get stuck in your head, they aren't bad! And they come from a time when music had a more fun element, before my time even, but so much fun you won't mind singing them with your kids. I have, since the purchase of this CD, searched out other CDs by the Rebops and they are all wonderful. My friends agree and I think you will too.
I bought this when my daughter was only 2 and is now over 3 and we both still love it. It's great on road trips or around town for those "errand days." It cheers everyone up!
THE "NAME GAME" BELONGS IN THE TOILET.......2000-09-19
Ever since I was 3, I have had a constitutional aversion for the "Name Game." Whenever I heard this idiotic piece, I would flee from wherever I happened to be because I just could not tolerate it. "Name Game" is irritating, stupid, annoying and has nothing in creation to recommend it. I feel the same way about that stupid chewing gum on the bedpost song.
I would have rated this one 4 stars, but including those two monstrosities cost this cd points.
What a great way to introduce young children to oldies!.......1999-07-08
I ran across this recording in an obscure music catalog and, since my children were ready for something more than Raffi, I ordered it. They loved it! We spent many trip hours in the car singing along at full volume. It was the best holiday present they got that year and eight years later (even though the children are now teens who shop in the alternate section of the music store) we still bring it along on vacations which require automobile travel. This is definitely a must-have classic for kids.

Customer Reviews:
An awesome collection.......1999-10-28
In my view, Rodgers and Hart have always outclassed Rodgers and Hammerstein, and this is proof positive of that fact. Many frisky recordings are served up by a spectacular list of vocasits from the present and past. Best of all, this recording introduced me to the adorable Blossom Dearie and the unbelievable Anita O'Day. Probably the best album that I own.
