5 out of 5 stars We give it to all of our friends with young children.......2007-07-15

An absoutely wonderful CD with music of varying styles. Everyone we have given it to has loved it, and years later the kids are still singing the songs.
Unlike so many of the children's music, adults love it to. The songs are intelligent and fun, without being intolerable. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Best Children's Album imaginable!.......2007-04-11

I had this album as a child and recently reordered it to give as a gift (and a second copy for myself!!) The songs are extremely creative, children love them, and adults will even enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars So much fun.......2006-12-03

I'm now 28 years old and can still sing along to these songs from when I was a kid. I still remember the day my mother bought the tape - David Polansky was going door to door. She was never a person to buy from door to door salesmen, but this time I'm glad she did! I'm now buying this for my one year old niece.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2005-11-07

I had this tape when I was little, and now my 16-month-old son can't get enough of it. The songs are unbelievably clever, in a variety of musical styles, and with lots of information about animals. What fun!

5 out of 5 stars music with substance.......2005-03-28

As a graduate with a masters degree from the Juilliard School, I buy lots of cds for our daughter to develop her love for music. She has listened to this cd since she was 2, still loves it now that she's 6 and so do I. Unlike a lot of children's cds which rambles on and on, there are many different styles of well written music combined with excellent vocabulary and information. What a wonderful find to be part of our lives!

Hap Palmer is a master of entertaining and teaching children with music. Can a Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet? overflows with fun songs that will have your child dancing along while he or she encounters themes such as vocabulary, shape recognition, problem solving, spatial awareness, numbers, and cultural diversity. Included in the liner notes is an extensive teaching guide, which lists skills and concepts, vocabulary, lyrics, suggested activities, variations, and follow-up questions for each song. These notes are a great resource for daycare or school instructors as well as parents, and, when implemented in moderation, can add another dimension to the listening experience. Palmer's original songs are diverse in style and are accompanied by strings, percussion, woodwinds, keyboard, vocalists, and even a children's chorus. --Tami Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Looking for "different." Look no further!.......2006-01-14

I have this CD and Can a Cherry Pie wave goodbye for my 3 1/2 and 15 month old and we LOVE it. The instructions are clear and gives the children enough time to move to the action. They have learned so much and are having so much fun while learning. Sometimes, I will pause the cd to give them time to answer. We do not listen to the cd from front to back, but I select 2-4 songs to listen to a program them into the cd player so that the kids don't get bored of it. The music is great (no rock or rap that preschoolers and toddlers cannot understand), but not your average Toddler CD.
We Love the title song as it teaches early phonics and recognizing that words start with a letter. I don't turn to the CD to teach my kids everything, but use it as a supplement to my teaching.

2 out of 5 stars disappointed.......2005-08-28

I was looking for music that will help my students learn the sounds of the alphabet but to my disappointment there was none included in the album. Anyway, I said it was ok cause because it teaches about other things too like shapes, letters etc. But I was just not inspired by the music. It was not as lively as I expected and it sounded like country music to me. I know the type of songs that will really get my kids excited and this is just not it.

5 out of 5 stars These aren't your run-of-the-mill songs!.......2005-04-12

I am always looking for innovative Childrens Music CD's and I was excited to fall upon this real gem. As you can tell from the title, Hap Palmer has a great sense of humor and imagination. I like music CDs that don't have the same ol' kid songs that we all know and have heard again and again. Instead, I like exposing my children to a lot of fun new songs. Not only are they more interesting to listen to, but I love to see how fast their great little memories can learn these new songs. You get everything in this CD! Part of the songs are pure fun and the other part mix fun with learning.

Some of the great fun songs include the title song "Can a Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet," "What Could a Bean Bag Be," and "The Compost Bin." His learning songs teach shapes, sound blends, and rhyming. I love "Letters in the Blender" and "Fun with The Rhyme Time Band" as well as "Jig Along Shapes" and "Action Fraction."

As you can see from reading the titles, these aren't your run-of-the-mill songs. Hap Palmer has a great talent at creating songs that are interesting to listen to and fun to dance with. This hour long CD is definitely worth it and will quickly become your family's favorite tunes! --Denise Steele-Darnell

4 out of 5 stars Highly Awarded Early Childhood Music Pioneer.......2004-01-11

Hap Palmer has been honored with many awards for his music for young children. He is a pioneer of pairing movement and music, and integrating basic educational ideas into music. His music interests me as a parent.

So my family and I have made a point of listening to his music, mostly by loan through our local library. Unfortunately, we do not like his musical style or voice very much. Most of his albums are not singable or melodic. I praise Palmer for making music that is good for childen and not like most commercial "junk food" children's music products that are on the market, but we just don't like most of his songs.

"Can a Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet" is one of the exceptions. The songs are interesting and fun to listen to. We like this CD. Plus, the messages are good for children, like most Hap Palmer albums. Thumbs up!

RECOMMENDATION: I suggest that parents start with CD's by Raffi. Then consider this CD. Hap Palmer's music is especially valuable if you use it to interact with your child, such as moving and thinking. Palmer's music is quality.

4 out of 5 stars Can A Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet?.......2001-01-25

I am a volunteer storyteller for two year olds at the local library. After story time we danced to "Everybody Dance" and "The Bean Bag". The children and the parents were so excited when we finished that they broke out in cheers! I'm ordering my own copy of this CD today and so are a half dozen other parents and caregivers!

3 out of 5 stars I miss Bob Murphy already.......2003-11-25

I bought this CD just to hear some of Bob Murphy's great calls over the years. (After all, isn't that why most Mets fans might want this CD? Or is it that you're just dying to hear "Bad to the Bone" for the umpteenth time?)

Anyway, the disc features a lot of the more famous calls, including the '86 ones (although you almost have to admit that Vin Scully's TV call of the game-ending Buckner error in Game 6 was better...), but the rest of the CD contains too much (bad) music.

But until they put out a CD of just Murphy himself, this'll have to do.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds of Shea.......2001-08-03

I enjoyed this CD -- purchased as a Mets fan! I have listened to it throughout the summer while travelling. I also plan to use it in my classroom for background noise while students are working on projects. The music is upbeat and fun!

4 out of 5 stars Must Have for Mets fans!.......2001-01-04

This CD is wonderful and it gets me pumped for the upcoming season. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and "Bad to the Bone" are songs you hear a lot at Shea. The audio is excellent, and even if you don't listen to it every day, they are memorable moments we should get just to have. Great CD!

    5 out of 5 stars LET'S GO METS.......2000-06-16

I love this cd. If you like the New York Mets (like I do) this is a must buy.

One of the best children's CDs I have listened to. The songs have a great beat, the lyrics are wonderfully written and not only do my children love it, my husband and I do to! I listen to it even when my children aren't in the car!

My 1 year old twins received this for their birthday and we've been listening to it almost every day since then. The tunes are catchy and the lyrics range from charming to funny. This is an albumn that we'll probably play for years to come.

It's nice when I find something made for kids that doesn't seem to be simplified, either in the music or the lyrics.

5 out of 5 stars COLLECT THEM ALL!!!.......2005-01-13

These CD's are pure fun for parents and children. My Dad's 60th birthday party turned into a free-for-all with his three grandchildren dancing around and singing at the top of their lungs as soon as we put on "Fred The Fish" and anyone that has ever listened to XMKids already knows the pure bliss of "If I Were A Cup" and the fun of "Billy Bob's Breakfast". The songs are addictive to kids and enjoyable to adults. The guitar parts are great, and the lyrics are both hysterical and REALLY clever (Check out "Silent E"). Don't wait for the rest of the alphabet!! Buy Volumes 1 and 2 today!! (Unless you're reading this a long time after I wrote it and Volume 3 is ready, in which case buy that one too.)

          5 out of 5 stars "I" can't wait for "Z".......2003-10-01

The best children's music I've heard. Great tunes with silly lyrics for toddlers and subtly funny lyrics for older kids and adults. Impatiently waiting for the rest of the alphabet.

          Album Description

The 30 entertaining songs on this Jazzles 'A-Z Clever Songs' recording delight and engage children attaining familiarity with alphabet letters and sound-letter relationships. Reviewed by American Library Association's Booklist Magazine as having “outstanding” musical selections, this lively phonics CD mixes a wide variety of upbeat music with simple, not simplistic, lyrics to help preschoolers, kindergarten and elementary children attain early reading readiness. All children love music, rhythm and rhyme. Even those even those having problems focused on structured learning respond well to these jazzy, upbeat clever alphabet songs. Also highly recommended by Children's Bookwatch Magazine, the Jazzles CD has been developed by Lesley Beth, a children's writer, composer, artist and experienced teacher. As part of her strategy of achieving early reading readiness by using music to stimulate children, Lesley Beth has designed this CD to be as educational as it is entertaining. Each lyric maximizes words starting with the focus letter. The songs, seldom using alphabet clichés, combine extensive alliteration, rhythm and rhyme to assist memory and recall of sound-letter relationships as well as the order of the alphabet. Having learnt the Jazzles songs, children can then "read" the words of the lyrics so learning the connection between oral and written language - a vital confidence builder in early reading milestones. Jazzles songs use interesting sound effects within a wide variety of music styles, from country to rock, all skilfully performed by the Jazzles teenage singers and professionally recorded by Trackdown, an award winning motion picture studio with `The Magic Pudding', `Blinky Bill' and `Moby Dick' to its credits. The CD runs to over 48 minutes and is accompanied by a 16 page descriptive booklet with the lyrics of each song. The differing song content is ideal for associated learning and parental involvement activities covering movement, dramatic interpretation, discussion and extension ideas - such as craft, collage, natural science, personal development and geography etc.

5 out of 5 stars learning should be fun.......2000-10-16

Having been a teacher for 25 years I know that the most important underlying requirement for success is the ability to read so anything that promotes this is worth a try.I have been teaching 4 and 5 year olds for the past five years and have found that anything to do with music is an instant attention focus for children this age so I was very willing to try out the Jazzles CD.It has been a complete success, I cannot praise it too highly. The songs have catchy tunes that the children love to sing and dance to.We have great fun working out actions to the songs. This is an activity that all the children enjoy and participate in, even those children who are having problems with structured learning respond to Clever Songs.I can download the text so we can reinforce the letter shape as well as the sound. It is important for children of this age to learn the connection between oral and written language so having learnt the song they can then "read" the words which just boosts their self esteem so much. It's a joy to see their expressions of delight.I also like the way Clever Songs uses such a great variety of music styles, from country to rock.I have found that the content of the songs also promote discussion amongst the children regarding anything from science to geography.I will have absolutely no hesitation in adding Clever Songs to my permanent list of resources.Well done!
