4 out of 5 stars You'll like this, adults. It's dirty........2006-09-27

Shel Silverstein was best known as a poet and a songwriter, but he also recorded several albums of his own. This was his third album (the first two have never been released on CD). It was recorded live in October of 1965. Shel didn't have a great singing voice, but it worked for the type of humorous material he recorded. But while most of his material was humorous, he would occasionally throw in a serious song, and even his funny songs often had a point to make. It should be noted that this is an album for adults only, with many of the songs being about sex. Hey, what's funnier than sex, right? Fans of Uncle Shelby will dig this album.

5 out of 5 stars I know the pain........2001-11-18

I too, am so good I don't have to brag.
But, nobody is better than Shel! Thirteen of the funniest songs around. From 'Ever Lovin' Machine', to the anti rascim ballad, 'Yowsah', to the pinnacle of anti-war tune 'Testing The Bomb'.
There is none better!

5 out of 5 stars He didn't have to brag!.......2001-07-01

What can I say about this marvelous album? It's been long overdue for a rerelease. This is a live album (sounds like it was recorded @ a coffee bar or something). However, each of the songs are in Silverstein's unique blend of comedy and sobriety. The songs, in most aspects, comment on the society of the time this was recorded (1965). "Modern Talk" deals with people who re-word things to make them sound better. The musicianship isn't too elaborate, neither are the lyrics. The songs, which took the audience members by surprise, were completely new (as he says at one point in the album "I don't wanna do any old stuff, y'know?"). The title track is the most hillarious song on the whole album. And that's saying something! It was his "I'm a great lovemaker" song. He said that he didn't believe these songs worked, but he wrote one "just in case." It's about how he's been making love profesionally since he was 6... and other ... escapades.

This album is great. It deserves more hype... because it would live up to it!

Lovingly yours-- ...
