Teletubbies: The Album [Soundtrack]

The constant repetition of the Teletubbies (what makes them so special to preschoolers) doesn't necessarily lend itself to good music (well, perhaps blues is about repetition, but as we all know, none of the Teletubbies are blue). Luckily, this disc--the Teletubbies' first domestic album--is still a sweet, fun record for young kids. Sure, it can be an odd blend at times: the dance tracks ("Puddle Dance," "Twisty Dance," "Running Away Dance," "Up and Down Dance") all follow the same electronic calliope formula--light waltzes of synth-treated bells, drums, and keyboards. "Tree" is an oddity, a New Age-for-toddlers number, but it's quickly followed by the Tubby opening anthem: the always pleasing "Teletubbies Say 'Eh-oh!'" Truth be told: "Dirty Knees" is the only track that will drive parents nuts: the narrator's one-track mind begins to sound like a fetish (you start wondering what "dirty" refers to, anyway). By the time "Lullaby" closes the disc out, you'll be ready for a rest, but your children will be begging for more. Extra points for great stereo action, with the Teletubbies' voices bouncing from channel to channel. Give your kids the headphones, and you'll both be all the happier! --Jason Verlinde

Great Video Alternative.......2003-05-21
The recording includes both "score" pieces that go with animated segments (animals on parade, the tree, three boats) as well as the more familiar Teletubbies sequences complete with their voices.
Watch out, this recording can really stick in your head. My husband and I torment one another by humming a tune from the CD so that the other will have it stuck in his/her head. Particularly invasive are Dipsy's Hat and Six Dirty Knees. It's tolerable however, and I'm pleased that the score selections are included because they border on new age music and are very relaxing. Also the recording ends with a lullaby and makes a great segueway for suggesting a nap or bedtime.
Do not expect this CD to entertain older children. It really is intended for toddlers who are already quite familiar with the Teletubbies show.
