I know I am not using this particular forum for its intended purpose, but I hope I can be forgiven. I am writing because I want to find a website or message board where I can communicate with Frankie Valli/Four Seasons fans. I have a particular question that I want to be able to post to a large number of fans at one time. So can someone please provide a website address or link where I can find such a message board. "Jersey Beat...The Music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons" is a wonderful, thoughtfully put together box that finally gives the boys their long overdue credit. My only gripe with the box is that Disc One contains far too much mono where I know stereo exists, since I have owned other Rhino collections. At least they found the single version of "Save It For Me" rather than the underdub that appeared on their "Anthology" and the "Definitive Pop Collection". And the single version of "Swearin' To God" is the original single master, not the crudely done edit of the LP master that was on the other collections (where is Frankie Valli's "Close-Up" album on CD, with the 10- minute version of "Swearin' To God"????) And they finally found the stereo "Let's Hang On". But I have stereo versions of "Rag Doll" , "Walk Like A Man", "Big Girls Don't Cry", and other early hits, on earlier Rhino discs, as well as the Curb reissues of their albums from the early 90s. Why doesn't a label like Warner Brothers do proper tape vault research? (Rhino is now for all intents and purposes, Warner Strategic Marketing) Otherwise, this is probably the best compilation of their work I have ever heard, and, stereo quibbling aside, everyone should own it, and even if you're not a fan, after hearing this amazing collection, you will be.

It is all here in one place, the greatest of the 4 Seasons. Enjoy 3 CDs with the best audio quality that I have heard to date. The mixing of the vocals is excellent, just as you remembered them on all of the 4 Seasons' hit and b-sides. Actually any of the b-sides here could just as well been a hit. There is something wonderful in the order of the play list of the songs in this compilation. They flow together beautifully. You'll experience hours of listening enjoyment. It is also very interesting to see how the music of the Seasons has matured over the years, while the early songs, such as Sherry, still having a "spine-tingling" timeless impact on the listener. Close you eyes and enjoy the past several decades of beautiful music. Do your self a huge favor and listen to the cut "Hope and Glory" several times. It is Bob Gaudio's and Frankie Valli sharing the lead. This could easily become a big hit single for the Seasons in this decade, given the proper airplay. Also be sure to treasure the DVD which takes you from the original Seasons with Nick Massi and then the fabulous Joe Long, through the later group members such as Don Ciccone and Gerry Polci. I promise that you will be thrilled that you purchased this extraordinary collection.

Let me start by I was born in Jersey in 1983. But I grew up to the sounds of WCBSFM 101.1 from NYC. This of course included many of The Four Season's Hits. I have an original vinyl copy of Gold Vault of Hits that, for a while, constantly played in my parent's turntable. I love The Four Seasons. This collection should be in every home in America (and around the world). It allows me to discover even more songs that until now I didn't know existed. BUY THIS COLLECTION. As far as I'm concerned, it's a steal at this price.

Let me say I really was not a Four Seasons fan until Jersey boys. Hey I grew up in the 80's and they really peaked in the 60's- 70's. I saw Jersey boys and was hooked. I just bought this collection and have played it over and over. I wish I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I especially like the Down the Hall song, Rapsody and Streetfighter. I am in a band and we actually think Down the hall fits todays sound and plan on covering it. I am still blown away by this collection, and some of the music here I have never heard of and love the lyrics and the songwriting. That Bob Guadio was amazing. And I never was a fan of Frankie Valli (Grease), but now I wish I had seen him perform. His DVD vocal on Working my way back to you is as powerful a vocal as I have ever heard any singer perform. Kodos to Frankie Valli.

If film and music fans sometimes wonder why soundtracks are often little more than pastiches of past pop hits and chart flavors of the moment, it's largely due to the blockbuster success of releases like this collection from 1987's surprise Patrcik Swayze/Jennifer Grey romantic hit. The film's retro-romantic concerns came shrewdly wrapped in a (largely manufactured) dance craze conceit tailor-made for such pop chestnuts as the Ronettes' "Be My Baby," the Zodiacs' "Stay," and the Five Satins' "In the Still of the Night." Mickey and Sylvia once again argued that "Love Is Strange"--if not quite as strained as Swayze's own attempt at balladry, "She's Like the Wind." Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes" showcased the former Raspberries leader to good effect, but the real soundtrack sweepstakes winner here was the Jennifer Warnes/Bill Medley duet "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." That performance not only won the Best Original Song Oscar the following year, but became one of the era's most performed songs and a ubiquitous radio staple. --Jerry McCulley

"Dirty Dancing" is still one of my favorite movies of all time. It managed to have a plot and wonderful music. You just can't sit still when this music is playing.

Excellent quality and music. I grew up to the sounds of the 50's and 60's and this is the real stuff. I've always been a big fan of Dion and I find myself singing and moving around in the car while I'm listening to this CD. Highly recommend it for fans of this music.

I loved adding these to my collection. The 50s theme is delightful. I sent a deck of these to my sister as part of a 50s birthday package. She said, "Sorry I haven't worked much with tarot for some time but I'll give them a try." She found the cards,instruction book, and recipes to be delightful. I feel these are a prize for collectors and a great gift.

All songs are original hits by original artists.

Of 55 CDs of 1950s songs that I own, this is easily the best.

The Drifters have a number of very good songs, including 'Under the Boardwalk' and 'Broadway'.But they have, and this is the reason I am writing this review one of the greatest of all songs of their time, the incredible 'Upon the Roof'.
This song is one which simply lifts the spirit up in tremendous joy. And it is one of those songs which can be heard over and over again without ever seeming to lose its freshness.

I was quite disappointed with this CD and Ben E King's " The Best
Of" because both are mono records. Except when I heard the songs
back then on the radio, on most LP's- released in the 60's-
all of their recordings were in full stereo. The songs are
great, no doubt, but should I have known this before I would
have chosen other "greatest hits" compilations in stereo.

For those of us who grew up in the '70s, this drive-in compilation of '50s and '60s rock and doo-wop, complete with Wolfman Jack introductions, was our introduction to this music. There are 41 jukebox hits here, and every one of them is a classic of its time (although two tracks--"At the Hop" and "She's so Fine" are covers by the revival band Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids). In his 1973 movie, director George Lucas used the music (and the presence of mysterious deejay Wolfman) as the AM-radio soundtrack to one night in suburban California, 1962. The idea was to capture and sustain an end-of-summer, end-of-innocence mood that's in the air throughout the picture-- not as a shortcut to establishing a period (as in Robert Zemeckis'Forrest Gump). There's an awful lot of spontaneous energy in these tunes--from Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, to the Platters and the Clovers and the Del-Vikings, to the Crests and the Beach Boys--and also just a hint of melancholy that goes down very nicely with a burger, shake, and fries. --Jim Emerson

I loved the movie and I love the soundtrack. It's amazing to hear so many great songs and bands of the past all together at once.
The soundtrack truly embodies an entire era of music, the mood and feel of which anyone who listens can feel. You are drawn into it by listening and just plain feel good during it, the songs are some of the most remembered and loved of all time.
This movie started or at least kept alive that trend of letting music be another character and being a significant part of the story. George Lucas, i and I'm sure everyone else believe, accomplished his goal. To make a movie that dealt with, among other things, coming of age; and to let music be a huge part of that story. You wouldn't have American Graffiti without all of these great songs of the olden days. They made that movie great.

With the exception of 'I Really Love You' (I don't remember this one) I'm happy with the rest of the songs. The only thing they're missing are the hiss and pop of the old 45's. These are from the early 60 and the chart numbers (on the back of the case) show they were all in the top 30, mand 10 or higher. I'm going to wear the grooves out on this CD :-)

The Platters were perhaps the top group of the 50s with such huge hits as "Only you," "Smoke gets in your eyes," "the Great Pretender," "Red sails in the sunset," "Smoke gets in your eyes," etc. Those of you who loved American Graffiti probably noticed the presence of Platters hits on the radio as the teenagers drove around the California town all night long.

The personel has changed over the years. Only 4 people are now allowed to bill themselves as the Platters. Herb Reed ( a bassist), Sonny Turner,(lead vocalist), Zola Taylor (female vocalist) and Monroe Powell (vocalist)

According to the Herb Reed and the Platters web site, the Platters have recorded almost 400 songs. How many were hits? A large number to say the least. The Platters, of course, are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have appeared in many movies.[...]

If you love the movie then you will love this cd...when you listen to it,it makes you feel like your watching the movie and it gives you that little fuzzy feeling inside...then you want to go and watch the movie haha..I love how the songs are played in the order they were on the movie also!

The Vestron film DIRTY DANCING is already twenty years old,in the aspect of production. August 14 marks the twentieth anniversary of its theatrical release. This CD features at least most of the material from the two soundtrack albums,including MORE DIRTY DANCING.
