Children of all ages...will find themselves dancing to the sophisticated and rhythmic jazz arrangements....

Album Description
Don't be deceived by these familiar titles. This jazzy recording is not just for little ones. Children of all ages will be finger-snapping and strutting along to the cool, catchy jazz arrangements of well known rhymes like "Three Blind Mice" and "Pop Goes the Weasel." They will be singing along to "Starlight, Starbright" and "Simple Simon", stomping and growling along with "Mad Man Polka," and dancing to the beat of "Boogie Woogie Ghost" and "This Old Man." Besides being just plain fun to listen to, this collection of familiar songs performed in unusual ways makes it a good introduction to jazz and other musical styles.

Tribe's fourth album, Beats, Rhymes, and Life, should be the awkward one, the album on which the group, growing up, falters a little as it figures out what it's going to do next. It isn't. Marked by a number of changes, both internally (this is the album on which the Ummah production crew takes over, and it also marks Q-Tip's new religious faith) and externally (by 1996 Quest's jazzy approach to hip-hop had fallen out of popular favor), Beats finds Tribe taking it as it comes and handling all of the challenges with flair. It's a slower, steadier album than either People's Instinctive Travels or The Low End Theory, but that's a description, not a complaint; rather, it gives you plenty of time to enjoy jams like "1nce Again." It doesn't hurt that Q-Tip and Phife Dog are feeling the flow here; an inspired pairing with distinctive voices and different strengths, they trade verses with fluid grace. --Randy Silver

4 out of 5 stars Underated.......2007-03-09

One of Tribe's best and also one of the most unheard of. Some of their greatest tracks except for the sellout "stressed out" - which inspired the industry to label them as anything but "real"

3 out of 5 stars The Fall off begins.......................2006-11-25

The addition of Q-Tip's cousin Consequence on BRL, threw me for a loop. It totally messed up the chemistry between Abstract and the 5 footer. This joint was just okay for me. Nothing like the 3 preceding classics.

4 out of 5 stars Great piece of History.......2006-06-12

A Tribe Called Quest's album "Beats, Rhymes and Life" is an overlooked album. The success of "The Low End Theory" and "Midnight Marauders" shadowed its greatness, for now, 10 years later, one can look at it and see what it was really trying to say. Much of the album complains about the East Coast vs. West Coast atmosphere of the time, urging their macho gangsta rap companions to stop the violence before things get out of hand. In September of that year, 2Pac was shot and killed in Vegas. Notorious BIG was killed next year in 1997. Nobody, apparently, was listening.

The Album marks the turn from the Low End/Midnight sound and towards what would eventually become The Love Movement. It demonstrates a perfect middle ground between the two sides and ends up better than most would expect. You wont find the greatest songs Tribe produced here, but there are some excellent tracks to be heard. Pick this up for your Tribe collection and take a glimpse into history.

4 out of 5 stars A Tribe Called Quest - Beats, Rhymes & Life.......2006-04-03

A Tribe Called Quest's (Q-Tip, Phife, Ali Shaheed Muhammad) fourth album was "Beats, Rhymes & Life" (1996). Following the release of three albums I consider classics ATCQ dropped this solid fifteen-track release after a three-year hiatus. Jay Dee (R.I.P.) teamed up with Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhamammad for "The Ummah" and helped with production on this release. My favourite track on this one is "Stressed Out", ATCQ and Faith Evans collaborate for an outstanding track. Faith Evans really impressed me on this cut, her soulful singing is excellent. Backed by some sick production ATCQ shine on cuts like "Jam", "1nce Again" and "What Really Goes On". Overall their is a notable change in production (more hard, less upbeat) and lyrics, less Jazz oriented cuts (the type I love), and more serious lyrics in my opinion. I don't consider "Beats, Rhymes & Life" to be among ATCQ's best work, it does however have some memorable moments, and some impressive production, which makes it a keeper for any big ATCQ fan. A Tribe Called Quest 1988-1998.

5 out of 5 stars Tribe Called Quest - Beats Rhymes & Life.......2006-03-10

This is an ill TCQ album! This album has some pretty ill beats on, some laid back but some with some sick loops on it. The lyrics are of course, always ill, when arent they? This is real hiphop beats though, on the real and the lyrics. Some of the beats arent that great, im more of a wu-tang beat fan haha. But there nice. Nice rhymes, good production, overall a good album. Check this out!! Real hiphop fans!

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2007-07-01

Sick like cancer... Busta's the coming was one of those classics that gets play daily on my stereo... A def 96 banger son!

5 out of 5 stars He must bring da ruckas to all you know the rest.......2007-02-27

Busta Rhymes hit the world like a ton of bricks when he made this classic effort The Coming. His wild and crazy rap style keeps you clinging to every word plus the skits on here are pretty funny. The all the guest appearances shine on here except for Keith Murray and the production was fire. Songs like DO MY THING, EVERYTHING REMAINS RAW, ABANDON SHIP(Rampage sounds pretty good on here), ITS A PARTY WOO HAH!! GOT YOU ALL IN CHECK, ILL VIBE(yo yo word), FLIPMODE SQUAD MEETS DEF SQUAD(everybody's verse was fire except Keith Murray's), STILL SHINING show that Busta Rhymes was great just the wasy he was. Bottom Line: Busta Rhymes' The Coming is a hip hop classic in its own right. This Cd is for everybody who wants to remember him for who he was back then and not who he is now.

5 out of 5 stars Busta Is the man.......2007-01-12

A must have cd if you like Busta. He is intense, but awesome.

5 out of 5 stars beautiful.......2006-06-27

this cd is tight, ive been listening to busta rhymes for years, and dont listen to my friend above, abandon ship is probably the best song

4 out of 5 stars touch this.......2006-06-15

Busta's debut is and continues to be the only must-have classic from his catalogue.

He had great production, tyte flow, lots of energy & was far less commercial than how he came at us with every LP after.

Many rappers never match the vibe, creativity and success of their first CD, so I ain't mad.

But "The Coming" is really the only Busta LP you absolutely need to hear. Dis is Bussa Bus @ his best!

Half contention (answer records and disfests), half collaboration between brothers and sisters (figurative and literal), this installment of the history of women in hip-hop has some pretty fascinating historical material: Salt-n-Pepa's first single from when they called themselves Super Nature; four installments of the classic "Roxanne, Roxanne" battles; Paulette & Tanya Winley's super-old-school flash in the pan; a remix of the Roots' "Proceed," with a delicious verse from Bahamadia; and Roxanne Shanté's controversial screw-you-all track, "Big Mama." It's not exactly consistent, but there are enough sparks flying--both ways--to keep it rolling, especially when LL Cool J and LeShaun "collaborate" so closely, you may have to check your speakers for stains. --Douglas Wolk

5 out of 5 stars An album like no other.......2006-12-12

Track 1-The Show Stoppa by Super Nature. Became the precursor for a group known as Salt-N-Pepa to straight blow up on the music scene.

Track 2-Roxanne's Revenge by Roxanne Shante. This song was recorded over an instrumental of UTFO's Roxanne Roxanne with pretty good results starting a slew of dis and answer records.

Track 3-The Real Roxanne by Roxanne & UTFO. This record was made in response to UTFO's Roxanne Roxanne song. Neither confirming or denying about her being conceited. The song did it's job though

Track 4-Sparky's Turn by Sparky "D". Was done in an answer to Roxanne's Revenge scorching and on point. The song let it be known that there was another up and coming MC on the scene.

Track 5-Round 1 by Roxanne Shante vs Sparky Dee. A lyrcial go at it jab fest between the two MCs was recorded and they didnt spare any words on their feelings about each other.

Track 6-A Fly Guy by Pebblee-Poo. This one was done in an answer to the Boogie Boys-Fly Girl song. Whatever the intentions were for the song it turned out to be a dis record as heard by some of the lyrics.

Track 7-Ya Goin' Down by JJ Fad. It came about after hearing a Roxanne Shante dis record called "Wack It" about their hit Supersonic. Its obvious her song was done out of hating. Because JJ Fad had a successful album and song out there. They responded in kind on this record coming at Shante with mad lyrical style and disses than she ever saw coming.

Track 8-Big Mama by Shante. A dis record aimed at more than one female rapper namely Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Yo-Yo. Calling them basically everything under the sun and of course the ever great trying to go R&B line. This brought about more heat on Shante with answer records by the rappers listed above.

with six more thought provoking and on point records among them Queen Latifah and Suga T with E-40. This record shows what it was really about back then bringing the lyrics with sytle.

But the track that brought it home for me was the remix by NIN. Thre breaks are solid and mixed very well. One other thing that no one has even touched on is the fact that there are TWO other tracks on here. After the two that are listed there is "Victory (Drama Mix)" and I believe "Bad Boys Been Around The World". Both are half decent.

This just shows you that Trent Reznor can make any song damn good. The original song is pretty bad. I am not a fan of P. Diddy by any means. I believe he is the epitome of pop. With that aside, the remix is just amazing. Trent Reznor does an amazing job at making a crappy song sound awesome. I would give it 5 stars for the remix alone but you get the original on the single as well which hurts it. This single is a shining moment for Trent but doesn't do P. Diddy any justice.

      Album Description

Parent's Guide to Children's Media Award! Children's Music Web Award for Best Recording for Pre-Schoolers! Parenting Magazine's Parenting Picks! Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence!

A jam-packed recording with 60 traditional and original songs and rhymes within 60 minutes! The project's musical style covers folk, R&B, swing, reggae, rock, and lullabies, showcasing extraordinary kid and grownup performers - all framed within an imaginative Re-Bop tea party skit that will engage and inspire kids from 6 months to 8 years old. To encourage interaction, a beautifully illustrated lyric and rhyme booklet is included.

The CD's richly produced, dawn-to-dusk concept begins, naturally, with waking up and breakfast songs and rhymes, such as Colin McCaffrey's fiddle-lively "Wake Up Baby, Day's A-Breaking" and the Mother Goose classic "Pat-A-Cake, Pat-A-Cake." Then it's tea party preparation time with "To Market, To Market," "Hickory Dickory Dock," and soul sensation Sandra Wright's wailing "Old Mother Hubbard." The tea party itself is celebrated with gems like "Mary Had A Little Lamb," "I'm A Little Teapot," and a rocking "My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean." The special day winds down with "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and the exquisitely arranged lullaby "All The Pretty Little Horses."

This is the first of two releases in coordination with the Mother Goose Programs (TM), an early education literacy and professional development series affiliated with the Library of Congress Center for the Book. "WHAT IS IT? Musical Math & Science" is the second award-winning release in the series.

With the G-funk low rider just around the corner, 1992's underground hip-hop classics were the last hurrah of a certain kind of celebratory lyrical explosion. Focusing on pure rap more than on pop crossovers--we get Naughty by Nature's "Guard Your Grill" rather than "O.P.P."--this volume specializes in chunky, funky grooves topped off by blistering, loopy flows. A Tribe Called Quest's flawless "Scenario" may be the only track hip-hop neophytes know, but the disc's almost all as dazzling, with gems by Grand Puba, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Double X Posse, and Black Moon that contributed catch phrases to urban diction. We're also treated to spectacular sleight-of-hand production from Main Source and Fu-Schnickens. You can jump to this, but it rewards headphone time, too. --Douglas Wolk
