Mickey Mouse, like legions of his non-rodent countrymen, has leaped aboard the Latin-music bandwagon. In fact, he's gone so loco for the genre's steamy sounds that here's his 14-track fiesta of salsa-, mambo-, and tejano-inspired tunes. Aimed at the tough-sell 'tween crowd (9- to 13-year-olds), the record has some familiar fare will certainly delight. "Livin' La Vida Mickey" is a redo of the Ricky Martin staple, with Minnie "into dancing Latin / Yellow shoes and cell-phone calls." And "Disney Mambo #5 (A Little Bit Of...)" is a minor reworking of the Lou Bega smash performed by the artist himself, who, instead of crooning for Jessica, Erica, Sandra, and Rita, turns his more chaste attentions to Minnie, Mickey, Donald, and Daisy. The "Conga/Rhythm Is Gonna Get You/Get on Your Feet" medley metes out a dose of the Miami sound that most prepubescents have wiggled wildly to at one time or another. Otherwise, tucked among a handful of heavy-duty Disney cuts like the "Mickey Mouse Club March" and "Mickey's Cup of Life" are two songs the company particularly hopes will perk the next wave of teen ears. "Magic Carpet Ride" is an English-language version of the Spanish song "Bailo La Rumba" by MDO--the former Menudo. Even more enthusiastically billed is another "Magic Carpet Ride," this one a Latin-poppy cover of the Steppenwolf classic, sung sweetly and convincingly in a debut performance by 13-year-old Myra, the first teen artist on Disney Records' roster. In all, La Vida Mickey is a well-rounded package perfect for punching up piñata parties; more generally, though, it will captivate the ever-swelling crowds of caliente-crazed kids. --Tammy La Gorce

My kids (8 and 11) love this CD. It got broken when we borrowed it from the library, and we had to replace it, so we got two from Amazon instead of paying double the price to the library.
They love to listen to it on the way to school, especially the Ketchup Song. It's lively and upbeat.

I mean who else but Disney could write a song about Ketchup that still rocked? Fans of this should also check out the first "La Vida Mickey" compilation featuring a dazzling rendition of the stellar pop hit "Mambo #5" catered just for kids and no longer full of promiscuous references about sleeping with multiple women! This CD is just so cool.

We purchased this CD at Disney World and listened to it many times over on the 16 hour drive home to Ohio. Neither the kids nor the adults ever tired of it. It is very high energy and is fun to pass the time in the car on family trips! I highly recommend it!

My daughters need a break to dance to music that is not on the TV every once in a while! This is hip hop current music that they ask for! I love the Latin flavor too...we are non-Latinas so it's great exposure for different types of music. My husband will be glad to listen to a great set of tunes in the car that isn't Barney or Book on Tape! Way to go Disney!

This C.D. is GREAT! I teach a beginners gymnastics class and the kids LOVE this for a warm-up. They really get into it! It's great that the lyrics were changed! It really makes the songs a lot better than the originals! Buy it you'll LOVE it! :-)

5 out of 5 stars Mouseworks music video.......2001-05-18

The title song was excellent, especially in the music video you can download at disney.com. I liked it how they used scenes from the "Mickey Mouseworks" TV show, which I didn't see much of even though I get ABC. I know that the show still airs under the title "House of Mouse", but they don't show as many cartoons as "Mouseworks" did, so those of us who missed most of it will never get to see "Mickey Foils The Phantom Blot" or the Mousetails shorts on HoM.

And BTW, you can watch a music video for "Mumbo #5" on the Goofy Movie DVD. Call me when they come out with a DVD that has the "Livin' La Vida Mickey" music video on it.

This CD has been put on the jukebox at my favorite watering hole. It has often been the topic of conversation. On several occaisions I have seen patrons walk over to look at the display to see what it is. Everybody seems to love it and one of the bartenders told me it got more play than anything else.

I defy you to listen to this music and not at least tap your foot or more likely, break out in a full salsa attack. There is not a bad cut on this CD.

Fun, fun fun! I used this cd in my elementary Spanish class and the parents and teachers all wanted to know where I got it. Nobody can stop moving! The songs are very good renditions of the orginal songs, with pretty much the same beats, but with clean lyrics. For those who do not like the Latin beat, you may want to look elsewhere for a dance cd, but for those of us who do, and in particular those of us with children, this is the cd!
