Where should I start?.......2007-01-08
First works of Amon Tobin before he got signed with ninjatune. The name "Cujo" came from an early Steven King novel (yes, that really is true).
You can definately tell that this is a precursor to the rest of his stuff, but it's still got some great sounds. I do end up listening to the whole album whenever I pop this in. Good stuff

crazy crazy good.......2004-06-03
I usually skip to track three to start this album off. "The Light" is just a beautiful song. Tobin mixes together jazz and drum&bass like no one else can and was on the very top of his game here. This was THE record for me to get high to until I quit smoking. And it still holds up. Like Boards of Canada say, the music should be the drug. This was released in the US in a screwed-up form; look for the Ninja Tune rerelease and everything should be okay, okay? Now run along to school...
The beginning.......2004-04-06
My first exposure to drum n' bass came in 1995 and 96 by way of Goldie, 4hero, and LTJ Bukem. I was immediately into the sound, something about the complexity of the breaks, the dubby basslines, and the otherworldly atmosphere...it was to me...the revolution. The music was great, however, I was unaware of it's capabilities until a friend in college who I traded music with stumbled across the Cujo album and introduced it to me in 1997. My world had changed. I had never heard anything this intricate, I thought Miles and Hancock were the last to know how deep music could go. It gave me a new hope for my generation. A few months later I brought Bricolage and the love affair grew into an obsession. I remember riding the subway playing it so loud in my headphones that a guy stopped me and asked me what I was listening to, it sounded so interesting to him. After the release of Permutation, other people seemed to become aware of Amon Tobin and his greatness, even more so after Supermodified. All of a sudden I knew several people who were dedicated fans. I started to become jealous, halfway happy that Amon Tobin was gaining the respect he deserved, but jealous that his music was being molested by untrained ears. I wished for the days when I would play it and feel like I was one of the few in New York who had it, it was just me and Amon Tobin...and the most incredible music I'd ever heard.
"FAT @$$ JOINT" FROM CUJO!!!.......2003-12-10
I swear Amon Tobin...Cujo...or whatever his name is, is not of this world! After getting "Adventures in Foam" and listening to the whole thing non-stop (I usually skip through a CD if it's garbage!), I realized that these songs couldn't've be produced by any human being. I say that in jest, of course, but Cujo-Tobin has taken a dying genre (that being D&B, jungle or whatever it's called) and turned it into something a helluva lot more interesting and tolerable to the ear. Cujo still utilizes his trademark jazz samples, sporadic drum tracks and other foreign oddities from God knows where, only on "Adventures in Foam" his beats are more steady and less jittery than those heard on his other releases. Definitely a good thing being that he's performing under a nom de guerre for the Shadow record label. "Adventures in Foam" displays a more playful side of Tobin, than the dark, eerie, ominous tones of his other brilliant works. It truly shows that even as Cujo he has what it takes to deliver some damn good music. If you aren't impressed with Tobin's other stuff (shame on you!!), you'll definitely love "Adventures in Foam", if only for the extraordinary production value.

Adventures in the Land of Music..........2007-05-06
I had forgotten about this group - that was my fault! They were an excellent R&B/Dance group who gave the consumer max value for their dollar. Standout songs: I've just begun to love you and Adventures in the land of music (sampled to death!). I paid $14/US for my disc! My rating for the disc: Five stars!
The dynasty of when R&B was really Rhythm & Blues.......2006-03-30
If you are one who thinks R&B is just midtempo and ballads then you have not experienced R&B as I grew up with. This is R&B of the bygone days when R&B artists were not afraid to put lots of rhythm into the mix but still be an R&B group opposed to a Disco or dance outfit.
Dynasty are just one on the kickin' groups from the legendary SOLAR (Sounds Of Los Angeles) record label responsible for such acts as The Whispers, Shalamar (Jody Watley and Howard Hewitt), Lakeside, Midnight Star and Babyface just to name some. Dynasty as well as all of these groups mentioned gave you a great mix of Ballads, Uptempo and Midtempo, not just ballads and mid. This is how I know R&B. Nowadays, if an R&B group puts out something that is club worthy, they are considered a dance or house group and that is just not the way it should be. R&B is about Rhythm and Blues, and rhythm is not just limited to midtempo and ballads but funky uptempo songs designed to get the feet moving.
The big dance numbers from this album that made it as singles and radio hits are I've Just Begun To Love You and Do Me Right, but Groove Control was another uptempo jam. As for ballads, Take Another Look at Love and Something To Remember were the downtempo ballads. The live version of I've Just Begun To Love You is a bonus track as it did not appear on my vinyl album.
Trully some excellent R&B.
Oh, Well.......2001-08-22
If you are looking for a CD that captures the real Dynasty, then this is the one for you. All of their hits are here. The album and live versions of "I've Just Begun to Love You" is here. Believe it or not, the title song, "Adventures in the Land of Music", has been sampled, like most songs during the R&B/Dance Era, by a rap group. This particular song is an awesome song and is very dynamic in it's horn arrangements. Some songs on here are fair to middlin', but only if you can appreciate Dynasty's approach to the R&B mixed with Dance ERA.
Solar's Musical Dynasty.......2000-06-21
It's Solar's first and the last line of hereditary rulers at their best. On Adventures in the Land of Music, Dynasty successfully attain the formula of blending Dance and R&B rhythms with smooth vocal harmonies. Also issued on this monstrous CD reissue is the band's top 10 R&B smash "I've Just Begun to Love You," recorded live during the Solar Galaxy of Stars Tour.
This CD is for those who like to put more than a "pep" in their step.

Kitsch and Class Collide: Film at 11:00.......2001-11-17
Buy it for Jingle Bells Mambo and King Porter Stomp, if for nothing else. Maynard is unbeatable on these tracks. Parts can come off like Esquivel on steroids but who said that was a bad thing? Not me. GREAT soloists all around. Virtuosity uber alles.
Imagination, elegance and superb craftmanship.......2000-07-17
The role Pete Rugolo played in creating new concepts of jazz orchestrations is to me as important as that of a Gil Evans even though it has never been recognized as such. Pete's music is imaginative, elegant, powerful yet romantic. Moreover it highlights the talents of the wonderful soloists that made the West Coast scene in the fifties. The present reissue is thus mostly welcome !
Big Band Sounds with a Sense of Humour.......1999-04-28
Pete helped give the early Kenton band a unique sound, and this double-lp reissue features great sidemen in a swingin' explosion of big band tonal colors. Mainly uptempo with some Latin touches here or there, the joy of seeing these classic mid 50's recordings on CD is only slightly diminished by one or two tracks suffering from age related wear or poor storage. Very worth the wait!

Masterpiece - A Must Have .......2006-02-27
Incredible album from 1975. One of the greatest female vocalists ever. All fans of Minnie know this is her greatest album. "Inside My Love" is a chill inducing sensual masterpiece. There will never be another vocalist like Minnie. So tragic she passed only 4 years after this release
Adventures in Paradise (and Love).......2003-11-10
In my opinion, this is Minnie's best album. She moved from the the jazz-folk-R&B style on "Perfect Angel" to a more soulful-funky-jazz-latin flavor on "Adventures in Paradise". This album is HOT and sexy. Her passion for love and life really shines on this album. On this album, Minnie shows us the different sides to love...with the ultra sexy "Inside My Love" and the funky "When It Comes Down to It", and the sad "Alone On Brewster Bay". While I LOVE her song writing, its her voice that moves me. Many of today's singer should follow her example.
Paradise witrh a funky but romantic Adventure!.......2002-05-22
I remember 1975 like it was yesterday! even though I was 13 years old, I had a unique taste for popular R&B. I was into writers and music. People like Melissa Manchester, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers and the slightly offbeat Bette Midler!~ This LP was one of my favorite LP's of the time. Listening to every track as if they were all hit singles! There were few artists who could achieve that interest with me.
Adventures In Paradise was Minnie's second gold LP and the follow-up to her breakthrough, Perfect Angel. It had a more soulfull feel than Angel and faired better on the R&B charts. Inside My Love was the adult sensual follow-up single to Lovin' You. Although it was more in the vein of Sylvia's Pillow Talk, it was too adult for popular radio. It's also one of my favorite songs. Today you may find it on the Foxy Brown soundtrack. It was written by Riperton and her husband Dick Rudolph and Leon Ware. Leon wrote similar songs with Melissa Manchester and produced her and Marvin Gaye. The second single was Simple Things. An optimistic song which also showed her vocal range. The title track is also one of my favorites with it's funky jazzy Earth Wind & Fire hook. Baby This Love I Have could have also been a single as well as the another funky tune called When It Comes Down To It. Minnie could really get busy with material like this! She could also slow the pace with the romantic Alone In Brewster Bay.
If you don't have anything from Minnie, this is the one to get! If you can't get enough, like me, go in this order.
1.Adventures In Paradise
2.Perfect Angel
3.Stay in Love
4.Minnie
5.Come To My Garden
6.Love Lives Forever
7.Best Of or any of her collections...Pearls
Truly, An Adventure In Paradise!.......2001-11-28
Ah,The late great Minnie Riperton's Third most remarkable album of 1975! I previously owned this album on cassette back In 1994,
and was thrilled to have It back In my Music Collection this year. What an Incredible singing voice she possessed! I love all the tracks on this record. However my personal favorite Is "Feelin' That You're Feelin' Right. Truly a gem!
"Adventures in Love".......2001-11-25
First off, I LOVE THIS ALBUM! Minnie Riperton's second album was a staple on KUTE 102 in Los Angeles when it came out in 1975. On it, Minnie assembled 10 tracks on love: lovin' another("Baby This Love I Have," "Inside My Love") and lovin' yourself ("Feelin' That Your Feelin's Right," "Don't Let Anyone Bring You Down") that hit the emotional mark. Her vocals are declarative ("When it Comes Down to It"), sensuos ("Alone on Brewster Bay")and always just right. This was the follow-up to the classic "Perfect Angel" and it didn't disappoint. It validated that Minnie was a talent to be reckoned with; an original artist with much to say. With both these albums, the "Stay in Love" album of 1977 and the "Minnie" album of 1979 (which was her last), Minnie gave us four of the best albums of the '70's and was an artist that influenced many female vocalists to come after her. A CLASSIC.
