THE TALENT IN THIS FEMALE VOCALIST IS UNBELIEVABLE. WHEN LISTENING TO THIS ALBUM YOU NOT ONLY FEEL THE INTENSITY OF HER RANGE BUT YOU KNOW THAT EVERY NOTE, SYLLABLE, WORD AND PHRASE IS COMING FROM HER HEART. YOU CAN CLOSE YOUR EYES AS YOU LISTEN TO HER SONGS AND FEEL AS THOUGH SHE WERE SINGING PERSONALLY TO YOU, AS THOUGH SHE KNOWS YOUR HEART. LOVELY AND GREAT IS THIS ALBUM!!!!!!

Who is Maia Amada: the 2nd coming of Anita Baker...or Janet Jackson? The answer is: She wants to be both. The album suffers from this lack of focus as neither fans of slightly jazzy R&B/adult contemporary balladry nor booty shaking club music will probably be happy here. Her career became a shooting star, 3 hits off this CD ("Love Never Fails" was #15, "There's a Place" reached #5, and "Love is for Always" spent 3 weeks at #1 on the Christian charts), 2 more from a followup, then off to obscurity.

Best tunes here are the spritely "Love Came Calling", which sounds like it would be at home on a "smooth jazz" station thanks to a tasteful acoustic guitar part, wistful "What's a Heart to Do?" and big gospel ballad "Love Never Fails".

At least one of the dance numbers, "Soul Deep", is surprisingly good, but Amada is at her best at midtempo and slow numbers and would do best to stick with those. The problem with cohesiveness knocks the star count on this down a peg or two.

You'll also note that the CD, when purchased new, was a poor value at only 9 tracks. However, since it's out of print now and the used cost starts at a mere penny, it's all evened out.

Bottom line: This is so cheap that if you enjoy gospel music AND Anita Baker, it's probably worth the effort to sample Amada. Even if you only like 2 or 3 tracks here, the cost per track is less than on iTunes or similar sites.
