Dr. Toy's Best Classic Products
Winner of Dr.Toy's Best Classic Products-2000
Album Description
Learning letter sounds has never been more fun! Children repeat letter sounds in a catchy rhythm and then repeat words that have that initial consonant sound. In the review section, children say the letter sound after being prompted. In the "Vowel Song," fun characters such as the Cat on the Mat, the Pig with a Wig and the Fox on a Box will help children remember each of the short vowel sounds. With the fifties twist, children will learn the long vowel sounds as they sing along to the boppin' music. All long and short vowels are taught as well as introducing "y" as a vowel.

Album Description
Here's a fun musical way for children to learn about reading, writing, and mathematics. Phonics and numbers are presented in a meaningful context of colorful rhymes and stories. Through hand and finger motions, full body movement, and opportunities for verbal expression, children are fully engaged in the learning process.
The songs focus on the relationship between letter symbols (the alphabet) and sounds of the English language (phonemes). The songs also encourage children to search for relationships, order and predictability as they work with numbers.
When the lyrics pose questions or problems, answers often come from children on the recording. There is always a musical interlude or a short pause before the answer is given. This gives the child listening a chance to answer first, then check the answer immediately following.
The 12 songs are presented first with vocal versions and then with instrumental renditions. Once children have learned a song, they can sing along without hearing the words or create their own lyrics and activities. The instrumentals have a soft piano melody line to act as a guide without overpowering the children's voices.
Included with each CD is a teaching guide that describes ways to actively involve children with each song. (Feel free to vary and adapt the ideas suggested in this guide, and to create new ways of using the songs to fit your school or home situation.) The ultimate goal is always the same: to foster enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning through music and movement.

Good CD.......2007-01-05
This CD is great for young children. They like the songs, and all songs are very catchy. It's nice that the songs are included without words as well. Overall, a very good cd for little ones!
great four any age.......2006-08-15
I have a twenty-two month old and a six month old. They both smile, bounce and dance when I put this c.d. on. The tunes are pleasent and fun. The older child sings some of the words during the call and reponse. I like it and the children seem to love it.
Simply the best!.......2005-03-20
Both of my granddaughters, ages 2 and 5, love this CD and ask for it in the car more often than Sesame Street. The tunes are really catchy and easy to remember. And every song teaches something, from rhythm, to numbers, to vowels and alliteration. Just a great CD!
One little gem!.......2003-05-30
I've used Hap Palmer's music in my pre-k and kindergarten classes for many years. This year I moved to first grade, and having such a huge selection of Hap's music, (nearly all of it on LP's!) that I hadn't thought to add to my collection until I happened to get a copy "One Little Sound, Fun with Phonics and Numbers" at the beginning of this school year. While "One Little Sound" is still great fun and learning for pre/k, and kindergarten, it's also a wonderful resource for those all important first grade skills too. Having a hard time getting those vowels memorized and tired of singing about Old MacDonald's vowels? Try "Ayee I Owe You" and get them down in nothing flat. Learning about syllables? Sing along with "Chickadee And Chipmunk" and learn all about word chunks! (And slide right into a REAL kid pleaser--"Skidamarinkadinkadink" at the end of the song!). Beginning word families? Bop, hop, pop, mop, chop, and flop along with "Bop 'Til We Drop". And learn even more word families with "Bounce", "One Little Sound" and D-O-G, Walkin' The Dog". How about skip counting? "Follow Along" will introduce counting patterns for you. And not only are these songs educational, they are FUN, FUN, FUN! There is so much to this CD, and I've only scratched the surface, so to speak. One more thing--don't forget to read the booklet that comes with it--there's a goldmine of information about how to extend the learning with every song.
Wow! What a terrific CD!.......2002-07-21
Hap's most recent work shows why his music is so widely used by educators. "One Little Sound: Fun with Phonics and Numbers" uses cutting-edge educational methods in a most enjoyable way. Hap's music has evolved with the times, integrating rap and cool beats with his trademark calls for movement. Superb for building reading and math skills. Who says learning can't be fun?

Album Description
This recording adds fun and variety to early childhood reading and math programs with original compositions and unique adaptations of traditional favorites. Children play with language in ways that nurture phonological awareness. They gain familiarity with the sounds of language and connect these sounds to letter symbols. Recent research shows that children who have a greater degree of phonological awareness are better equipped to learn to read. Included in this CD are songs that encourage children to:
o Enjoy the sound and rhythm of language
(examples: wiggy-wiggy-wiggles, silly-willy-nillies)
o Perceive the difference between similar sounding words
(examples: tuba-Cuba, trumpet-crumpet, cello-jello)
o Substitute one sound for another
(examples: apples-eeples-opples, hickory-dickory-rickory-snickory)
o Notice words that rhyme and identify word families that have frequent spelling patterns.
(examples: pig-wig-jig, cat-rat-bat, dip-sip-tip, clap-tap-snap)
o Remove and add initial and ending consonant sounds
(examples: ornbrea-cornbread, opcor-popcorn)
o Recognize letter sound correspondence
(example: 's' says 'sss' in singer and song)
As children develop vocabulary and language, they also play with numbers in ways that enhance skills in mathematics. Songs are included that motivate young learners to count, discover number patterns, add, subtract, understand place value, and identify units of money The accompanying teaching guide suggests ways to involve children actively with each song.

These catchy tunes are fun for the whole family.......2007-02-09
We bought this cd to get the "Wiggy Wiggle Freeze Dance" (which is great) and have grown to love many of the other songs. Ten Little Monkeys and Apples and Bananas are great. Good for riding in the car, dancing around or even before bedtime. The music only versions are a neat addition to see if your little one really knows the words!

Hap Palmer is a master of entertaining and teaching children with music. Can a Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet? overflows with fun songs that will have your child dancing along while he or she encounters themes such as vocabulary, shape recognition, problem solving, spatial awareness, numbers, and cultural diversity. Included in the liner notes is an extensive teaching guide, which lists skills and concepts, vocabulary, lyrics, suggested activities, variations, and follow-up questions for each song. These notes are a great resource for daycare or school instructors as well as parents, and, when implemented in moderation, can add another dimension to the listening experience. Palmer's original songs are diverse in style and are accompanied by strings, percussion, woodwinds, keyboard, vocalists, and even a children's chorus. --Tami Horiuchi

Looking for "different." Look no further!.......2006-01-14
I have this CD and Can a Cherry Pie wave goodbye for my 3 1/2 and 15 month old and we LOVE it. The instructions are clear and gives the children enough time to move to the action. They have learned so much and are having so much fun while learning. Sometimes, I will pause the cd to give them time to answer. We do not listen to the cd from front to back, but I select 2-4 songs to listen to a program them into the cd player so that the kids don't get bored of it. The music is great (no rock or rap that preschoolers and toddlers cannot understand), but not your average Toddler CD.
We Love the title song as it teaches early phonics and recognizing that words start with a letter. I don't turn to the CD to teach my kids everything, but use it as a supplement to my teaching.
disappointed.......2005-08-28
I was looking for music that will help my students learn the sounds of the alphabet but to my disappointment there was none included in the album. Anyway, I said it was ok cause because it teaches about other things too like shapes, letters etc. But I was just not inspired by the music. It was not as lively as I expected and it sounded like country music to me. I know the type of songs that will really get my kids excited and this is just not it.
These aren't your run-of-the-mill songs!.......2005-04-12
I am always looking for innovative Childrens Music CD's and I was excited to fall upon this real gem. As you can tell from the title, Hap Palmer has a great sense of humor and imagination. I like music CDs that don't have the same ol' kid songs that we all know and have heard again and again. Instead, I like exposing my children to a lot of fun new songs. Not only are they more interesting to listen to, but I love to see how fast their great little memories can learn these new songs. You get everything in this CD! Part of the songs are pure fun and the other part mix fun with learning.
Some of the great fun songs include the title song "Can a Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet," "What Could a Bean Bag Be," and "The Compost Bin." His learning songs teach shapes, sound blends, and rhyming. I love "Letters in the Blender" and "Fun with The Rhyme Time Band" as well as "Jig Along Shapes" and "Action Fraction."
As you can see from reading the titles, these aren't your run-of-the-mill songs. Hap Palmer has a great talent at creating songs that are interesting to listen to and fun to dance with. This hour long CD is definitely worth it and will quickly become your family's favorite tunes! --Denise Steele-Darnell
Highly Awarded Early Childhood Music Pioneer.......2004-01-11
Hap Palmer has been honored with many awards for his music for young children. He is a pioneer of pairing movement and music, and integrating basic educational ideas into music. His music interests me as a parent.
So my family and I have made a point of listening to his music, mostly by loan through our local library. Unfortunately, we do not like his musical style or voice very much. Most of his albums are not singable or melodic. I praise Palmer for making music that is good for childen and not like most commercial "junk food" children's music products that are on the market, but we just don't like most of his songs.
"Can a Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet" is one of the exceptions. The songs are interesting and fun to listen to. We like this CD. Plus, the messages are good for children, like most Hap Palmer albums. Thumbs up!
RECOMMENDATION: I suggest that parents start with CD's by Raffi. Then consider this CD. Hap Palmer's music is especially valuable if you use it to interact with your child, such as moving and thinking. Palmer's music is quality.
Can A Jumbo Jet Sing the Alphabet?.......2001-01-25
I am a volunteer storyteller for two year olds at the local library. After story time we danced to "Everybody Dance" and "The Bean Bag". The children and the parents were so excited when we finished that they broke out in cheers! I'm ordering my own copy of this CD today and so are a half dozen other parents and caregivers!

Alphabet on the Go! with Phonics on the Fly
Kidaddles
Manufacturer: Kidaddles
ProductGroup: Music
Binding: Audio CD
ASIN: B000JMMZ6G |
Product Description
Created so that moms & dads can concentrate on driving or their task at hand. Intended to teach children through repetition to learn the alphabet & phonics on the Alphabet on the Go! CD before entering pre-school.
Each CD is personalized with your child's name. Your child's name will be spoken 4 times on each track. Encouraging them along throughout. That's a total 8 times on the Alphabet on the Go! CD.
Clear, concise speaking with pauses for the children to repeat along with the cd.
First, we say each letter and sing the alphabet, slowly, with pauses for the child to say along with the CD. The phonics section is great. Each letter is said with a pause for each child to pronounce the letter. If a letter has more than one pronunciation, it, too, is pronounced. The speaking is intended to teach children through repetition to sing the abc's and how to say each letter before entering pre-school.
Track 1: Saying our ABC's. Slowly saying each letter with pauses for your child to repeat and speak along. Then, speeding things up a little, saying letters in triplets (i.e. abc, def), then singing the abc's all at once. Repeat. Run time: 5:34
Track 2: Phonics. Slowly saying each letter with a pause for your child to repeat the sound. Repeat. Run time: 4:29
Total Run Time: 10:03
Run Times are calculated before child's name is added.
You will be contacted via email within 24 hours of your order to obtain the child's name you wish to have on the CD.

All Around Lovely.......2005-11-10
I have not heard any other CD of Viva Voce. However, I am in love with this album. Though not completely, it does keep me interested, but there are a few throw-away songs on there. But I would still recommend buying this, as some of the songs are absoultley breathtaking, and worth having a listen. I enjoy the soultry sounds and head bobbing-beats. It has variation and is all around lovely.
Innovative Break-Out.......2004-04-21
The sophomore effort by husband and wife team Kevin and Anita Robinson is a musical *tour de force.* If Hooray For Now was a jet taking off, then Lovers Lead the Way is this same jet reaching cruising altitude. It's more sedate and contemplative than Hooray, but continues to display the creative genius of this very dynamic duo. Their style is difficult to describe. It's a multi-disciplined alternative rock theme, but ecclectic and creative. There is no schlock-rock with these guys! Think of them as a latter day Blue Oyster Cult but without the sinister undertones.
Anita Robinson is far and away one of the best guitarists in the business. Kevin is a multi-talented, multi-disciplined musician in his own right.

Different.......2004-03-23
I LOVED the first record by Viva Voce, played it to DEATH! This one is a mellower dose of songs this time around mixing it up with both male and female vocals this time around. The first album had a few mellow songs however most were rockers. This album chugs along at a slower pace the whole record. If a fan of the band its a definite album to buy, if looking for something new and want to try the "dreamy rock" style of Viva Voce check it out!
~Dreamy Indie Pop~ the way it should be....a must have!!.......2003-09-25
Viva Voce is the husband and wife duo of Kevin and Anita Robinson, from Portland, Oregon. Their debut album was released a few years back on a major label subsidary, their sophomore full length is a co-release with their own label Amore! Phonics and Asthmatic Kitty. Viva Voce writes great songs, but on top of that their production skills are top notch - it's hard to believe this album was recorded entirely at home by two people. Home recording is a full time fascination for Kevin, who is also a staff writer for Tape Op magazine. The production and overall sound on this record evokes Phil Spector at times and early 90s shoegaze records (think Darling Buds, Drop Nineteens or even My Bloody Valentine). Kevin and Anita trade off vocal duties, often giving the proceedings a 60s feel-good, summertime feel.
