That's What Little Girls Are Made Of

If you're searching for the perfect soundtrack for pretend tea-party entertaining, keep clicking: pink profiling's not part of the picture here. Music for Little People, compilers of some of the sharpest kids' music around, instead sends the salute-worthy message that sugar and spice presumably includes chili pepper. So while Maurice Chevalier mushes up sweet things in an accent to send francophiles swooning on "Thank Heaven for Little Girls," Maria Muldaur invites those who'd prefer not to be classified as powder puffs to swing on a star, and later coaxes them to take a twirl at Shirley Temples "Codfish Ball." Daydream believers and homecoming queens get swept off their fanciful feet by none other than the Monkees, Jenny the Bubblegum Queen pops out in style, and "Daddys Little Girl" is warbled into a genuine weepy by funny lady Victoria Jackson. A CD as darling, diverse, and cuddly warm as the cuties who inspired it. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:
more for adults than children.......2004-01-19
the idea is clever & good songs were chosen, however, the appeal is more for adults 30-50s than for children; my 5 yr old received this from Santa Christmas 2003 & is NOT interested in more than a couple of the songs such as "Thank Heaven for Little Girls", "Teddy Bear Picnic", & "Miss Mary Mac"; most of it just sounds to her like what older folks listen to on the radio; when it is played, she asks for "my music" or "children's music"; might have different affect on preteens

This is an excellent album. My daughters can listen to Bubble Gum Jennie 7 times in a row. It is a favorite. A must have for anyone expecting.
