5 out of 5 stars The best children's album ever.......2004-09-27

I agree with the other online reviewer. My children, ages 11 and 13, have been singing these songs with me in car journeys since they were 3 and 5, and they still sing them today. Even the ridiculous songs are delightful, and they grow even more delightful with time. Lots of British songs, classics, Danny Kaye, and some whacky tunes as well. "You're a Pink Toothbrush" is truly priceless.

5 out of 5 stars Hello Children.......2002-11-03

This is a classic album of songs and tunes from an age when the radio was listened to by the whole family, albeit at different times.

I am too young to remember uncle mac on the BBC but i do remember the songs. So does my daughter, I bought this album for her when she was 3. We listened to these songs for many years whilst on car journeys and to send her to sleep, they were great fun. It started her out on a journey into diverse musical influences and kept her a child for longer. She didnt need to dress up like madonna or kylie at the age of 4, she had nelly the elephant and can still sing the words to pink tooth brush at the age of 17 ( although as a punk goth rock chick she may wish she had amnesia)

THIS IS GREAT STUFF FOR YOUR KIDS. It gives you a common frame of reference that doesnt revolve around your 4 or 5 year old wiggling their backside like a wannabe pop star.

These songs are great for families to sing together to and the album should be included in all promotional packs given out by the nappy/diaper manufacturers when your child is born.
Childhood is about these songs and the simpler themes they provide.

Some of these songs are classics. We still sing some of them and the album is nearly worn out from playing and taping.

we really loved them - you will too.

5 out of 5 stars For children - and adults of a certain age.......2005-11-29

I remember listening to Children's hour on BBC radio in the fifties (introduced by Uncle Mac with his catch-phrase Hello children everywhere) and the music played on that programme is the basis of this set, although some songs of more recent vintage are included. I'm sure they would have been played on Children's hour if they'd been available at the time.

Among my favorite tracks are Right said Fred (a very funny song), Runaway train (though I'd have preferred Michael Holliday's cover to Vernon Dalhart's original), Ernie, Lily the pink, Ballad of Davy Crockett, Bring me sunshine, Nellie the elephant, Farmers in the den, Big rock candy mountain and Teddy bears' picnic.

There are some songs here that I regard as truly dreadful, but this is to be expected in a compilation of this nature. I'm sure you don't like everything here either but maybe your dislikes are different from mine. I'm glad they didn't include Long-haired lover from Liverpool (Little Jimmy Osmond) or Mother of mine (Neil Reid) but I was dismayed to find There's no-one quite like Grandma (St Winifred's school choir) included.

But I won't dwell on the tracks I dislike - with sixty tracks, most of them very enjoyable, this is great value for money. It will provide great entertainment for children, or for adults remembering their childhood. Among adults, it is likely to have particular appeal to those (like me) who remember Uncle Mac and his Children's hour.
