The Beasties are More than just Real!!.......2006-02-21
Buy this for your child. Buy this for yourself. (I came looking today to see if it was possible, still, to find...)
We have favorite songs - one is "Morton Simon." Another would have to be "My Best Friend Lars."
My daughter is 25, and I have a strong hunch Lars still lives at her house...
We had the great good fortune of living in Eugene, Oregon when my daughter was little - the McCornacks' old stomping grounds - so Jen saw them perform quite often!
As only little ones can, she latched on to "Lars" early - he wasn't just a =character= in a song, he WAS a great and good friend! So when I found this fabulous touristy store that specialized in bears and only bears the year she was 3, it seemed fated somehow - I found Lars. Lars was a Steiff bear. A perfect Steiff bear. He had fully articulated arms, an adorable face. He was a dark, chocolate brown. He was marvelous! He was just exactly the right bear to be Lars. So, of course, I bought him.
I asked for a pair of scissors. The lady, assuming I wanted to cut off the price tag, I'm sure, handed them over. I cut off his ear - much to her absolute HORROR! I nudged a woman I'd seen smoking outside the shop and asked to borrow her lighter...and singed his fur just a tad (from dragon fighting, of course)... Now everyone in the shop knew I was completely off the deep end.
Jen and my mom had been doing something else on the other side of the touristy place - I don't recall what. They had no idea I'd been in a bear store. I walked out of the store, over to...wherever they were...and handed her Lars. She took hold of him and hugged him and asked =him= where he'd been. Then she looked at me, asked if me if it was lunchtime...and if we could go somewhere that'd serve up peanut butter and catsup (from the song) for her beary beary best friend - which wasn't easy, but, by gumbo, we found a place!
Yes, you definitely need to get this one, whether you have children in your life or not - it's an absolutely MUST-HAVE!
We love "Andy's Little Umbrella".......2000-06-22
Andy's Little Umbrella is a GREAT song, - one of the most charming childrens songs we have heard in ages. We are SO happy that we accidentally heard it on the Time Warner JUST For KIDS music channel and decided to look it up on Amazon and found the CD...and decided to get it.The McCornack's make beautiful music that adults can enjoy as much as children. We know because we are a granddaughter and grandmother and both love the McCornack's singing. From: Sophia Bamert and Barbara Seaman.
Not just for kids.......1999-10-31
I've followed this couple as best i could since the 1970's. this ablum brings back many memories. I've enjoyed it on tape, until left in the sun to long. I think you'll like it too!
Mike and Carleen had an LP made in the 70's a fantastic collection of folk music. Sadly I gave it to a good friend (at the time),darn I haven't seen the friend, worse I havent heard the ablum.
A wonderful collection of songs and lullabies for everyone.......1998-07-18
Mike and Carleen McCornack demonstrate an excellent skill in blending wonderful harmonies along with great songwriting. Together they have created a joyful collection for both young and old alike. This recording is a special treat for those that enjoy folk music combined with smart songs for children.
