Dads are generally known for their rollicking and good-natured rough housing. Perfect Baby Shower Gift.......2006-03-11

After my son was born, I found it hard to find music to play when I put him to bed at night. A friend told me about "Sing Me to Sleep, Daddy" and "Sing Me to Sleep, Mommy". My son will turn 3 in April and we still play these CDs every night when we put him in bed. I love that my son hears every night how much he is loved.

It has also become the gift that I give everyone expecting a baby.

The music on this CD is perfect for rocking your baby to sleep and for helping put your child to sleep as he/she grows older. The music is very calming and the songs now bring back many fond memories of bonding times with my children. I just purchased this as a gift for a couple who just had their first child. Ideal for newborns because of the soft music/lyrics.

This is, quite possibly, the most touching CD I have ever heard. No mother should miss out on this one. The songs touch your heart and soul. This would make a wonderful gift for a new mother.

I had gotten this CD really on a lark not knowing anything about it. I was searching for a song to dance with my father to at my wedding. I had a tough time chosing from 5 different songs!! I could not believe how beautiful SO MANY of the songs were. When my father and I danced to Safe in Your Daddy's Arms there was not a dry eye in the house! Well, worth every penny and thensome! It also has some of the best lyrics and melodies I have ever heard for lullaby's.

This is the most beautiful cd I ever heard. Its perfect for the little ones and their parents. I have no children yet, but I will save this one especially for them.

Released as a companion piece to the award-winning book Lullabies: An Illustrated Songbook, this hour-plus of music is a wonderful mix of stately classical themes and child-friendly vocals. The selections range from "All the Pretty Little Horses" to a global spread of lullabies drawn from classical and folk traditions. The music is spare, with Kapp on piano, Julianne Baird and Kapp's daughter Madeline on vocals, and Mela Tenenbaum on violin, viola, and occasional vocals. Most of the classical selections (from Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Edmund Elgar, W.A. Mozart, et al.) get a straight-ahead, accomplished treatment. Lest you think the project stuffy, each of the melodies is in the one- to two-minute range, which effectively mandates a stronger sense of flow than most children's collections. Kapp, who managed to create a visual and poetic flow in the Lullabies book, keeps things nicely in a groove here, knowing enough to segue into silly tracks about halfway through the CD to provide a wider emotional range. Wonderful!.......2007-02-14

I love this CD. It's very well-done, and the approach is different than most children's CDs - very refined, yet soothing. I don't get tired of listening to it the way I do others -- which is important when trying to get a little one to sleep! I highly recommend it and the companion book.

Simple and sweet songs.......2006-04-02

With just piano, violin and vocals, this is a simple and heartfelt album. Ms. Baird's voice conveys the full emotions that a mother feels for her new baby with clean and open singing. The first track in particular, "All Through The Night," still makes me teary. I played this in the hospital when my son was born, and we use it as part of our wind-down ritual. I do agree that some of the songs are a little upbeat for bedtime. We just skip those in the evening (using iTunes).

Marvellous cd, enchanting music.......2005-10-18

Our whole family loves this cd. I am continually charmed and refreshed by the subtlety, taste and musicianship that has gone into these arrangements of well- and lesser-known gems. Apart from the joy of the simple yet perfect chordal progressions, listen to the warm, caressing tone imparted by the low bass notes in the piano in many of the tracks. The pace is so wonderfully leisurely, there is time to savour each song or piece, and yet each lasts only two or three minutes. The three diverse yet complementary singers, each with a tender and gentle presence suiting the subject matter, give a sense of a 19th century family musical evening. Magical.

Good if you want to sing from the book but can't read music.......2004-02-10

I bought this solely because I have the book and wanted to sing the lullabies to my kids, but I can't read music. For this purpose it is fine. The songs are not in the same order as in the book but I can deal. As a stand-alone lullaby CD I wouldn't really recommend it--the songs are not sung in a soothing manner, there's lots of variety in tempo and volume, some are even sung up-beat. The voices are not pitched high enough for babies either. That being said, I am back on Amazon today to buy it for my sister who is due any day now with her 3rd kid--we both like to sing and have the book, and songs (in book or music form) are a great present that the baby won't grow out of for a long time, and helps you bond with your little one too.

Didn't like the voice........2002-12-11

I bought this cd to go with the book and it is very frustrating because the songs on this cd are not even in the same order as the book. The singing voice fluctuates too much, it will be really soft and then it gets really high pitch. And if you have the volume set at a lower level for some songs then you can't hear other songs. I think there are better cds to buy than this one.

Finally - lullabies BY & ABOUT Daddies.......2003-03-06

Most lullabies are sung by moms and are about moms. What about Daddies ? I found this in tape form about three years ago & my daughter (4) & son (21 months) both love it. Love it so much that it is wearing out swiftly. My daughter can sing most of the songs; my son is working on it. It's great to play when Daddy is on an extended trip, or even when he can't make it home before bedtime. A great way to remind kids of how Daddy loves them.

We are in love with this CD.......2001-06-08

After 5 children (now ages 18 years to 4 months) I feel qualified to say this is my favorite lullaby CD ever. I bought it for my husband and we use it to get our two youngest children to bed each night. The remakes of the oldies (Daddy's Home, Devoted) are superb, but what we love most are the beautiful melodies and lyrics of the original songs. At the end of the CD are instrumentals and my husband puts those on and sings the lyrics to our babies each night. If you want a good cry, read the dedication. The co-writer of the songs died after this CD and this is his final love song to his daughter!

A WONDERFUL ALBUM.......1999-01-15

This is a beautiful album, gorgeous, sweet, and poignant. Diane Levine indicates in the liner notes that she and her late husband David wished to show that "dads can be just as nurturing as moms" and was inspired by his relationship to his daughter. The very first time I played it my seven year-old daughter fell asleep in my arms as she said "Dad, this is beautiful." Among the many beautiful songs "Saving your sleepies," "No sweeter music," and "Butterflies and Turtles" are particularly poetic. The music on this album is accessible to adults and children alike. The mix and the technical quality of this recording are both superb. What a generous and profound legacy for a man who must have been a wonderful father.

Bedtime Ritual.......2002-03-23

We received this cd as a gift and have used it every night since my daughter was 3 months, she is now 27 months. It has become a part of our bedtime ritual. It has also come in handy with late night/early morning wakings - we put on this music and it helps to put our girl back to sleep.

The songs themselves, while sweet and often touching, will probably never win any awards. The real winner is the second half of the cd, which is all instrumental. The music is gentle and lasts for approx. 35 minutes. This portion of the cd is a perfect way to end the bedtime routine. I plan to buy a second copy for our next child. Give it a try, you may become tired of the songs but your child will find them soothing.

Beautiful, loving music.......2000-07-29

My son is 4 months old, and I really play this CD as much for me as for him :-) and I have to say I really enjoy it a lot. It has very touching, thoughtful, loving songs on it, and even after hearing it a couple dozen times, I still get choked up on "Even More" ... every time. The songs do a great job of expressing the love a father has for his child. It's a great CD to pop in and just play in the background, not just at night. I'm really glad we bought it.

Unfortunate........1999-09-11

I am a huge fan of the label, Someday Baby. I own "A Child's Gift of Lullabyes" and "Rock-A-Bye Collection, Volume 1". I even bought one of their cassettes under the Target "Lullabye Club" packaging. I think that all three of the above publications are absolutely wonderful. And I was thrilled at the thought of having equally beautiful music that expressed a father's love. However, this CD arrived today and I disliked it immediately. At first I thought, "Oh gosh, it sounds kind of like country". But then I thought, "That's not it......I like a little country now and then. This is just BAD!"

Perhaps my daughter will like it. That is, after all, the real goal. But I am incredibly disappointed. This music will not keep me humming like the other CDs. Sorry, Someday Baby, I think that you really missed the bar that you set with your other work.

Absolutely wonderful!.......1999-03-02

This is one of the best sets of lullabyes I've heard. My son is 1 1/2 now and we have been playing it every night since he was born. This is his favorite bedtime music and it is a tape we can both listen to over and over.
