Whether it's Tiger Woods, Harry Potter, or Tonka trucks he's into, chances are you'll find fragments of him here, and not buried in a bunch of cliches. A few songs toe the for-rough-and-tumble-types-only line--Gene Autry goes a round with "Bucky the Bucking Bronco" and Taj Mahal slinks, Huck Finn-style, into the "Fishin’ Blues"--but tracks like "Pajamas," in which Livingston Talor cozies up, keep this disc from sliding into too-predictable territory. Gender aside, kids’ll count the moments till the tallying of the "18 Wheels on the Big Rig" begins, and when Raffi sends an invitation to take the fun out to the ballgame, nobody under 10 can refuse. Even Mom and Dad get a shout-out from the fine fellows assembled here, courtesy of Allen Sherman's camp classic "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah." --Tammy La Gorce

We Loved It!.......2004-07-11

I took this CD (along with several others)on a trip with my 3 year old daughter and her cousins who are boys ages 8 and 10 years old. This was the only CD we listened to. They requested it over and over and over. Even the adults were singing with it. Everyone loved "18 Wheels on a Big Rig"! There were several other songs that were often requested as well. My daughter loved the dinosaur songs. I love "Pajamas". I had to e-mail this page to my sister-in-law as soon as we got home so she can get a copy. We had lots of fun with this CD.

I bought this CD for my toddler aged son and it's a lot of fun. Some of the songs are for older aged kids but enjoyable none the less. I love the title reference to the classic poem we all know and love and I think it's great that there's a CD to celebrate boys in this manner. Don't let "political correctness" get in the way of a good time -- grab your sense of humor & enjoy!!

The intentions are good. So is the choice of music. But the title, "That's What Little Boys Are Made Of," is --- boy, oh, boy! --- simply sexist. To claim the tunes found here --- from Allan Sherman's live take on "Hello Muddah, Hello Fuddah!" to Gene Autry's vintage "Bucky the Bronco" to the nifty Danny and the Dino-mites ditty "Do the Dinosaur" --- are meant just for the pleasure of little boys is appalling. Music For Little People, the noted company that distributed this title (and the equally sexist "That's What Little Girls Are Made Of") should know better.
