Tunes From Tarrytown (Blister) [Enhanced]
Editorial Reviews

Tunes from Tarrytown doesn't exactly set the tarmac on fire musically, but with every song extracted from the gentle PBS series, it'll put the pipes of fans in action from the opening spin, and even preschoolers who don't know Tracy the Turbo Jet from Thomas the Tank Engine stand to come away with a clutch of ready-for-takeoff social skills tucked under their wings. Sure, songs like "Following the Leader" and "Digadeezip"--in fact, the bulk of these 22 songs--issue from what sounds like a revolving cast of stuffed-up 6-year-olds, but there's no denying their propeller-shaking peppiness and sky-high spirit ("I'm gonna mix these colors and make them fly / It's just like living in a coloring book," exclaims Snuffy, the runt of the fleet, on "My Rainbow World"). Even songs on subjects that might normally induce dizzying dips in altitude--"You Are Unique" reminds Jay Jay that "you're anything but plain, little plane," and "Together Is a Better Way to Be" tackles cooperation--help kids soar with their boosting self-confident spirit. "Bubblegum Friend," the harmonica-heavy gem of the record, captures the vibe best: Everybody, not just a fleet of anthropomorphic flying machines, wants a bubblegum, or a boomerang, or a yo-yo friend--the kind that keeps coming back, no matter what. For preschoolers just learning to navigate the friend-filled skies, Jay Jay's Tarrytown tunes present a zingy, encouraging training course. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:
Really great, catchy songs.......2006-02-09
It's hard to tire of this CD because there are lots of really great songs on it. The planes have very nasal voices (they are cartoon planes after all) but the music is very well orchestrated. My son considers this CD one of his utmost favorites.
Excellent children's CD.......2003-02-03
Actually this CD presents a lot of excellent songs. Songs are emotionally rewarding and educational. The music styles are diverse, but all songs emphasize friendship and/or a positive attitude on life. My "almost" 4 year old enjoys it and I do as well (and I'm a guy!). The list of 20 some songs may look like too much, but the running time is only 42 minutes, with most songs relatively short, catchy, and to the point, just like we all like!! (-:
Great CD for little ones.......2003-01-24
My 4 year old son loves this CD and the PBS series. We listen to the CD almost every day and he has learned many of the songs and sings along. The songs are very sweet and teach good lessons. I even find myself singing along to many of them. Recommended if your child loves the Jay Jay series!
