Vive Tu Sueno

The singing voice of Becky Lee Meza is heard at last. (When the young actress starred in Gregory Nava's biopic Selena, she lip-synched to the vocals of teen idol Jennifer Peña.) And though on this album she is not the equal of Peña (or of Selena), her enthusiasm should put it over with the kid audience it's made for. Parents may be pleased by the fine taste in covers--"Over the Rainbow" in Spanish and in English, Katrina and the Waves' "Walking on Sunshine" revived as "Caminando en las Nubes"--though they're bound to cringe at "Sueños de Juventud," on which Meza does a baby talk so cloying, it would make even the Olsen twins blush. Vive Tu Sueño is a sort of concept album about Meza's career, with the broad moral being to follow your dreams--good advice in any language. --John Sanchez

4 out of 5 stars She could've been a star but why didn't she?.......2005-11-24

I think Becky could've done more to promote herself. This album is cool but I also have to agree with the Amazon reviewer, some of it is corny. I don't think she sang better than Jennifer Pena but still sings nice. Maybe she sounds a whole lot better now that she's older and too bad she never recorded another album or did another movie so we could've seen her talent grow. I also think her dad, Joe Meza's dry and "Abraham wannabe" personality was a turn off to Becky. I wish Becky could've had another manager who could've promoted her much better. With the popularity of the movie Selena there's no reason why Becky couldn't have been a star. I did hear she was supposed to work on another album when she was 15 but don't know what happened to that. Boy this girl can disappear! Well Becky if you read this, please know I'm not knocking you down and wish you the best if you decide to return to the music bizz.

5 out of 5 stars BECKY LEE MEZA VIVE SU SUENO!!!!!!!.......2005-08-01

First of all, Becky did a spectacular job of portraying a young Selena in the movie. Second, this is her very first album and she deserves some credit for her efforts. That being said, there are a lot of songs on this album that show some promise and potential of her singing abilities. Jennifer Pena, when she first started out didn't sound so great, but with time she developed her skills and is now a famous singer. Becky can do the same thing as well if she wanted to. I love this album and how it is aimed for a younger audience. The other sweet thing about this record is that another one of my personal favorite singers is on here as well, but she only did the backup vocals for Becky, that artist is Amber Rose. Becky Lee Meza keep on living your dreams and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. Becky Lee Meza you ROCK!!!!!!!!!

2 out of 5 stars It's not all that!.......2003-03-17

I think Becky was given a record deal just because she played in the movie Selena and not because she has a singing talent. Sorry to say but Becky can't sing! It's no wonder why they decided to use Jennifer Pena's vocals for the movie instead of Becky's. There's just 1 song I like on this album and thats Chango Guango. Sorry Becky but Over the Rainbow is not the song for you. The album is cool though because it has a positive meaning to it, that is to follow your dreams but I'm tired of record companies giving kids like Becky record deals like they're giving them candy or something because they're making these kids think they can sing and in the long run their career is going to come to a halt. Proof: Why didn't this album go gold? And why hasn't Becky recorded another album in 6 years?!

5 out of 5 stars Becky Lee Meza, please record more.......2002-11-15

I do not speak spanish, and don't understand lots of the words, but Becky Lee makes listening to spanish music so easy. She has a real good range, and can sing anything I believe.
I loved the movie Selena, thats what got me into Tex-Mex music. I know lots of my friends don't understand why I like this music, but its performers like Becky Lee, Selena, and Jennifer Pena, that can make more English listeners respond to this wonderful music.

5 out of 5 stars Becky Lee Meza has a great voice and is a cool actor.......2002-06-05
