Billboard Presents: Family Travel Classics - Memorable Songs From Film And Television [Soundtrack]

This is an odd collection with an unclear mission--is it for kids or adults? Kids might enjoy Goofy's "On the Open Road" from the Disney character's 1995 full-length film, A Goofy Movie, and they could even end up whistling along to "Whistle Your Way Back Home" from Hey There, It's Yogi Bear (1964). They might sing along with Hayley Mills on "Side by Side" or rock out to the TV pop of the Brady Bunch's "Keep On." But Nelson Riddle ("Route 66"), Sally Field ("I'm on My Way" from The Flying Nun), and Doctor Doolittle's theatrical "Fabulous Places" might not hold quite as much for today's kids. --Lorry Fleming

Family sing-alongs in the car aren't what they used to be. Sometime during the last century, kids and grownups maintained their sanity (and wakefulness) during long trips with "BINGO" and "99 Bottles of Beer." Nowadays, apparently, "Be Kind To Your Web-Footed Friends," et al. have been replaced by hit showtunes from "The Wiz," the theme from the original "Star Trek," and selections from "Brady Bunch" reruns. Granted, the "Star Trek" theme isn't hum-along-friendly, and no one I've ever met has reported singing tunes from "Doctor Dolittle" en route to summer camp, but this compilation was put together by Rhino, the famed reissue label. And, surely, Rhino knows what people listen to. So grab this one before it's gone forever, so that the next time the kids beg from the back seat, "Put on some Judy Garland!" you'll have just the CD on hand to keep the peace.
