Definitive Mike's Song.......2007-04-12
This release is notable in particular for including what might be the definitive Mike's Song jam. Mike's Song was a concert stable during these years and this is about as good as the jams get. It's a long one, but it never loses track of where it's going. All four of them are really playing together just perfectly. The rest of the show is pretty great on its own. Fast paced with some unusual stuff, but all played extremely well. The band are just nailing everything they play this night. Recording is really nicely done. You can feel the crowd some, just about perfect for a big open venue like Deer Creek (now, sadly, "Verizon") where Phish can let themselves jam away. Great release with a high-energy feel and an extraordinary Mike's Song.
blown away.......2003-10-08
I have 10 of the 20 live phish concerts out now.. and this has got to be one of my favorites. The opening divided sky is amazing.. the band was perfect on this one, all 17 minutes of it. Tube was sounding good and the maze was a fast paced one that i enjoyed. PYITE was excellent as usual and llama was really rockin'. Slave was, in my mind, one of the high point of this show, the jam at the end is genius and it sounds perfect.
ACDC is a great opener to the second set and the always climatic ending to lizards was awesome. The ultimate best point of this show is the Mike's into Lifeboy into Weekapaug. Mikes song has an awesome jam and is over 20 minutes, then lifeboy is beautiful, how i imagined it live. and weekapaug lives up to its typical greatness.
The 3rd cd lives up to the rest of the concert with the David Bowie, Ya Mar and SOAM. The three acoustic songs to start the cd were sounding good as well. Strange Design was real good, one that i havent heard much. sweet adeline is a good acapella one. the encore of sleeping monkey and rocky top was great fun as well.
I encourage anyone to buy this cd, maybe a little knowledge of phish, but anyone could find something they enjoy in this show. its worth every penny.
the ol' 96er.......2003-05-31
Trey starts the show by saying, "i've said it before and i'll say it again," and from there Divided Sky takes flight. The boys had to know that this was going to be one of those nights. Trey plays the first few seconds, then page joins in, and you can just feel it. This is the perfect Sky, alone it is worth the price. It bends and curves with every lick of Trey's guitar, every strum of Mike's bass, all the beats of Fish's drum, and of course Page's fingers dancing on the ivory. The Tube that follows is amazing and Page plays the monkey out of those keys. The PYITE gets you groovin after the old place, and the Llama is ferocius.
The second disc picks up exactly where they left off. AC/DC is super tight, and the lizards that follows is full of fun and performed perfectly. Mikes>Lifeboy>Groove is just another reason why this band is followed by so many year after year.
The third disc is also great. It seems not many reviewers perferred it, and i can understand why not, but who can turn their backs on strange design (what up doobs). There's also a sweet adeline that your grandmothr would love! The filler of Ya mar is funky and the Slave closes it out nicely.
But again, the Sky is phenomenal. Get the CD, crank it up and closes your eyes and boogie on.
Vol 12 is awesome.......2002-12-21
When they open with a Divided Sky like this one, you know you're in for a great night. This is my favorite Sky in the series. Tube is next - tight and awesome - my favorite Tube. Tela - beautiful. Maze - trey takes you up and down and up and down. Totally Rocks. Things calm down with very nice Fast Enough. Old Home Place is fun, PYITE is cool, Llama is shredding, Trey's voice is on. A glide - Nice! A Slave to close the set?? AWESOME Disc.
Second set. AC/DC Bag builds and builds and flys out of the park and flows right into Lizards. Terrific. Mike's Song. Here's where things get nuts. This Mike's Song is intense and relentless. Trey's soloing is unreal and this song takes you down deep. The Page solo and Fishman jungle-groove towards the end heads into Lifeboy. This is a super-happy Weekapaug, and then Page gets his Theramin going for a wacky Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I'd buy this volume just for Disc 2 - Mike's Song = WOW.
Nothing really Mindblowing on Disc 3, but the Bowie and the Ya Mar > SOAM is very very cool, but look to Volume 7 for an awesome SOAM.
Live Phish Vol. 12: 8/13/96.......2002-07-25
Really a great recording of a great show. Divided sky is fantastic, and I haven't heard a better version of Tube, and any show that includes Rocky Top, Old Home Place, and Strange Design is something worth giving a listen to. So far, this is my second favorite of the Live Phish releases, surpassed only by the Fukuoka show.

Customer Reviews:
WHY WERE SOME OF THESE ITEMS RELEASED IN THE FIRST PLACE?.......2006-08-16
Plain and simply, Maria Callas was the operatic icon of the Twentieth Century. The vocal, musical, and dramatic coponents of her art totaled a "complete package" that no one, living or historical, could come within miles of. My gripe here is with EMI, who, while they recorded Callas extensively in the standard repertoire (I am not including the studio recitals here), they completely missed the boat by not recording the great diva in roles like Lady Macbeth, Anna Bolena, Imogene in "Pirata", Elena in "Vespri", Abigalle in "Nabucco", and a few others. They have tried in recent years to correct this error by issuing live performances (with barely adequate sound) of "Bolena", "Macbeth", and "Pirata", etc. But --- and this is very important --- in many instances, the pressings that EMI have acquired sound even worse than the pirate pressings on which these performances first appeared. Truly, we should be grateful that EMI were brave enough to studio-record Callas in "Norma", "Puritani","Sonnambula" and "Il Turco in Italia".
This recording is a case in point. To start with, I am convinced that the abbreviated "Butterfly" aria in the beginning is NOT Callas. True, the speaking voice bears an astonishing likeness to her, but the singing does not. Even at the age of twelve, there should have been at least a hint of the Callas sound, however undeveloped. Someone spliced in another voice, I am sure. Yes, I know that I could be wrong, but I doubt it. The Proch variations are spectacular and they prove what a coloratura technician Callas was, but the sound is so introlerably bad that I find it impossible to listen to. All of the other items here are represented elsewhere on EMI releases in much better sound - though Callas herself may not have been in as excellent vocal condition.
Yes -- we are grateful to EMI for making so much of Callas' work available. But let's look at it from the $$$$$ standpoint. EMI has made megabucks on Callas, and while her artistry is certainly worth it, I wonder how much of a favor EMI is doing Callas by releasing material which she herself would have rejected, especially given the inferior pressings that EMI has settled for. It's not a tribute to the supreme diva of the Twentieth century ----- it's a matter of the all mighty dollar!!!!
This is a great CD! And Freni is only adequate in Puccini!.......2006-07-13
Sempion, for all his unintelligent reviews, would seem like the stupid one here. For all his taste for opera, he should first understand what a good singer and a great singer is, and obviously he seems to think that singers who didnt' dig into their roles as much as other great divas are greater than others. He is so full of mediocrity, stupidity, and diatribical tendencies that I would dismiss him as a fool. Ignore him, or laugh at this New Yorker's unintelligent and unhelpful responses. And he says I'm not intelligent. Ha!
As for this disc, well, it's amazing! It showcases the great voice of Callas playing around with different repertoire (and doing it well too!!!) at the greatest height of her interpretive powers. I recommend this disc to Callas fans and non-Callas fans alike.
Live in Concert - Maria Callas.......2006-02-25
This is a fabulous 2 CD set of live concerts by Maria Callas from 1949 to 1959. It demonstrates her unique range from dramatic soprano arias to The Bell Song. A must-have for all Callas lovers.
Out of this world.......2004-09-27
The album is brilliant. It has some very great pieces of Callas and is a must to have for anyone even remotely interested in Opera. Trust me, the music will take you somewhere out of this world.
Callas awful at Puccini? How stupid can someone be?.......2004-04-08
I understand that Amazon is trying to "cultivate different opinions" but there is a difference between an Opinion and sheer STUPIDITY... Callas awful at Pucini? Callas is the undisputable Tosca and Madama Butterfly of the 20th century and the only dramatic Mimi and Manon with the rest of the singers being from utterly inadequate (Tebaldi) to completely boring (Kanawa, Freni)...
I never expected to read so stupid and unbelievable remarks about Callas and it really faschinates me the fact that they appear to have been written by a greek person. No wonder Callas left Greece if there was such stupidity and ignorance she had to face...

Great performance - terrible mastering.......2006-03-28
Avoid this mastering of the famous 1952 RAI recital like the plague - terrible sound. The strange thing is that EMI already issued the 1952 RAI recital in its 1997 2-CD "Live in Concert" from a far superior source. Buy that one instead.
Amazing recital, but..........2006-01-20
I recommend you seek out a previous EMI album entitled "Maria Callas: Live in Concert", since it feautures this same recital, but in much superior sound (no doubt from a different source), thus making the experience all that more enjoyable. As to the performances themselves, they really need to be heard to be believed (and in that sense I give them 5 stars, I take 2 from this release because the source EMI chose isn't as good as the one of their previous release). This also goes for "Live in Milan/Athens". Though not all of the items featured in that disc are actually in "Live in Concert", I'd still recommend the latter for the same reasons stated above.
Callas does it again!!!.......2005-10-14
I heard this CD and i instantlly loved it. It showes Callas in her earlier days of her career. The voice is young, fresh, and full of expression. I just wish they had more film footage of her performances. This is something a Callas fan should own.
Striking passion and versatility but so are some problems.......2004-07-01
These two recitals are great examples of Callas' remarkable versatility. She was more at home with the repertoire she chose in Rome but the San Remo scenes are interesting as well.
I've little to say about her Lady Macbeth and Abigaille. No other soprano has ever equalled Callas' in these roles. She had everything these early Verdi roles needed. The penetrating high notes, the rough instrument and fierce temperament. My only complaint is that Abigaille's cabaletta was omitted. Such a loss!
She had yet to sing the part of Lucia on stage but her reading of the mad scene is already filled with her customary darkness. Technically she adds interesting variants like an acciaccatura, a turn, an extra trill and a fermate. The flute cadenza brings the first vocal mistakes to sight. According to her biographers, in the Lucia performances which exist, Callas rarely - if ever - enjoyed a total success in this cadenza. There were always badly pitched notes here and there. The most obvious example here are the awkward staccato B-flats. The Italian version of Lakme's Bell Song is quite good though Callas' singing is not as brilliant as Sutherland's for example. This is after all a very flashy scene. The final top E, however, is ringing.
The San Remo recital opens with Kostanze's big aria. Callas sounds downright furious and the result is most exciting. On the other hand I was amazed how exposed her instrument is to Mozart's demanding singing! Sudden high notes are shaky while the sustained top C sounds clumsy and uncomfortable. Listen to Gruberova or Auger for a rounder performance. The gorgeous aria from Luise is probably Callas' worst moment of the evening. This piece has so many sustained soft high notes and these were never Callas' territory. Even in 1954, almost every note sounds wobbly! Listen to Caballe's literally breathtaking reading of this aria. Her breath control is out of this world!
Dinorah's introspective music suits Callas well and the result is finer than her later studio recording. I'm not very familiar with this Meyerbeer work though. The sorceress's aria from Armida wonderfully closes the San Remo recital. Despite some ambiguous notes around the top C area, her Armida is outstanding.
Callas mixed many different styles in these two recitals which is astonishing but mixed are also the outcomes. (Despite my appreciation of this recital I don't expect much positive feedback by Callas-fanatics). Recommended as an important part of Maria's legacy!
Two miraculous Recitals.......2004-05-17
These two recitals show, without the possibilities of the studio such as re-takes etc. how miraculous Callas' voice sounded live. Just look at the choice of repertoire, WHO can sing these in ONE recital and who DID?
1. Vieni! T'affretta...Or Tutti Sorgete (Atto I)
2. Ben Io T'invenni...Anch'io Dischiuso Un Giorno (Atto II)
3. Il Dolce Suono...Ardon Gli Incensi (Atto III)
4. Dov'e L'indiana Bruna? (Atto II) (Bell Song)
5. Tutte Le Torture (Atto II) Listen Listen Listen
6. Ahime! Che Notte Oscura...Ombra Leggera (Atto II)
7. Depuis Le Jour (Acte III)
8. D'Amore Al Dolce Impero (Atto II)
The first four tracks were sung in the Rome-Recital in 1952. Verdi's highly dramatic, lunatic and dark Lady Macbeth and Abigaille paired with innocent, sad Lucia and sparkling Lakme? Who did this in one recital and succeeded? Nobody except Maria Callas. Callas had sung Abigaille in 1949 (A recording exists) and this recording of Abigaille's ornamented aria is breathtaking. Abigaille is normally sung by huge agile voices (So rare) but many dramatic sopranos avoid it because of the trills, scales and coloratura. Callas, well schooled in bel canto by Elvira de Hidalgo, has no problems here. Here the famous "vibrato" of the late years isn't even hinted, Callas takes the leaps (An octave at a point) as if it were EASY! Absolutely stunning and making me sad that she never recorded Abigaille in the studio.
The next role where sadly only a live-recording exists is Verdi's she-devil, Lady Macbeth. Callas sings the "Vieni t'afretta" passionately and the following cabaletta with all the acuti, coloratura and leaps as if it were not hard at all. The best Lady Macbeth ever.
The miracle of this concert is the sudden switch to innocent belcanto-heroines, something that seems impossible. But Callas sings Lucia's madscene (The first recording to be made of her Lucia) luminously and beautifully with a HUGE E-flat closing it. Sadly she didn't sing the cabaletta then. The Bell Song from Lakme shows her at her brightest, sparkling like the best champagne. A joy to listen to.
The later recital presents us with her take on Konstanze, a role she had sung at La Scala. (No recording survived) Absolutely breathtaking agility and power, the same goes for her flawless Armida, Shadow-Song and Louise. (The only "Depuis le jour" of hers that I like) In short, a young soprano conquering the operatic world in 1952. Sensational!

Anyway, we can meet him again........2006-09-15
This CD contains the recordings of the live at the Indiana Speedway in 1983. That's the sole information I can get from the sleeve. The stage was huge and the audience shouted louder and the chorus girls sang louder and Marvin himself seemed a little weaker. The sound was sort of muffled with a low-pass filter or something. However, this surely captures Marvin's last days with his great songs after leaving Motown including Sexual Healing.

Product Description
In March 2003, Waterdeep was out on tour and stumbled into Muncie, Indiana. The 11 songs featured on the album are a nice representation of what theyve been doing on the road recently. Half of them Loris, and half of them Don's, its a pleasure to have these glowing harmonies see the light of day. ==== 1. Secret Lives 2. 900 Miles 3. You 4. Alone Everybody 5. Man, I'm Gonna Sing 6. Two Gunslingers 7. If I Said I Don't Mind 8. You Knew 9. Whether Or Not 10. The Family In The Woods 11. Bring The Sadness Back In Outro
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic.......2006-03-31
Waterdeep's newest release is a great addition to anyone's music collection. The cd comprises of 11 tracks taken from a live recording in Indiana in 2003. Most of the material is original, save for two cover songs - Woody Guthrie's "900 Miles" and Tom Petty's "Two Gunslingers". Upon the first few listens one will notice the exceptional drumming by bandmember Brandon Graves. Don and Lori trade lead vocals and do a great job on the guitar and keys, respectively. Fun CD.
