Nick at Nite: A Classic Cartoon Christmas

Editorial Reviews

Baby boomer nostalgia or a timeless trip into the season? That question practically becomes mute when one tunes in to these classic TV Christmas cartoons that magically maintain their shelf life. There's Burl Ives singing "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" and the title track to the songs from the animated Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer show, along with that lovable "We're a Couple of Misfits." And with a handful of songs from A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Muppet Family Christmas, this CD is sure to connect with adults who remember first seeing these holiday shows on TV, as well as their kids who are seeing them for the 60th time on video. That said, ya gotta love a record that has the original "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch," as well as Fred Astaire doing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and Jimmy Durante showboating his way through "Frosty the Snowman." Big fun for old and young. --Martin Keller --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars I Love This Christmas CD!.......2005-10-15

This is a really good CD, it has several songs from the the classic Christmas specials and it is just really nice to listen to them during the Christmas holiday! It has Frosty the Snowman, Your a Mean one Mr. Grinch, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reinder, Holly Jolly Christmas and many more wonderful songs and I highly recommend this CD! BTW: The Snow and Heat Miser songs from The Year Without A Santa Claus are on the next Nick at Nite Christmas CD. Nick At Nite Christmas: A Classic Cartoon Christmas Too.

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC.......2004-11-06

If You Love The Classic Christmas Cartoons From This Period, Do Not Hesitate To Purchase This Compilation. It Has The Best Of The Best. Being In Grade School When These Cartoons First Aired, I Couldn't Wait To See Them, And Still Try To Catch Most Of Them When They Are On These Days During The Holiday Season. My Only Disappointment Is With "Hark The Herald Angels Sing". At The Opening Of The Song, The Peanuts Are Humming, And Then Go Right Into Singing. Does Anybody Remember That In The Show, They Start Humming And Then Charlie Brown Appears, They All Look At Him While He Is Amazed At What Has Been Done To The Little Christmas Tree He Got. The Gang Then Shouts, "Merry Christmas Charlie Brown", And Then Start Singing. If Only That One Small Piece Of Dialouge Was Included, But Still, A Fantastic Trip Down Memory Lane...

5 out of 5 stars Memories..........2003-06-12

You'd have to buy at least 5 CDs to replicate this collection, combining impossible to obtain and very available songs from TV Christmas Specials from the 1960's and 70's. You can't but smile at the unchristmasy, yet uplifting ditty, "Put One Foot In Front Of The Other" sung by Mickey Rooney & Keenan Wynn. And whose heart doesn't swell like the Grinch at the Whos overheard morning singsong, "Welcome Christmas"? A well-considered selection of songs from baby-boomer's Christmas memories in front of the television!

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Christmas CD's I Have Ever Heard!.......2005-10-15

I love listening to Christmas music and I like that this Christmas CD put out by the folks at Nick at Nite has songs from the Christmas specials I watched when I was little. This CD has songs like Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reinder, Holly Jolly Christmas, We Need A Little Christmas, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch and many more and I highly recommend this CD! FYI: The Snow Miser and Heat Miser songs from The Year Without A Santa Claus are on the 2nd volume of the Nick at Nite Christmas CDs! It is called A Nick At Nite Christmas: Classic Cartoon Christmas Too. I know some people have complained about the song from The Muppet Family Christmas being included but I love that Christmas special and that song!

5 out of 5 stars Christmas fun!.......2003-06-30

My whole family loves this CD. We had the cassette and played it to death, so I came back for the CD! Fun songs, fun memories, even if I could do without the Muppets tracks! Not in league with the old classics.

5 out of 5 stars My all time favorite christmas CD.......2002-12-17

This is my favorite chistmas CD. My favorite part of the Christmas season (except for the presants) was the day after thanksgiving when my mom would get out the chrismas movies. I watched all of these films 100's of times (I was a little kid). Getting to hear the best songs from them takes me back to the best part of being a kid.

5 out of 5 stars I for one Am Glad They included a Muppet Family Christmas!.......2002-01-02

I got this for Christmas and it is probably the best Christmas present that I got! Yes, these songs are also on other CD's but they don't have the classic Grinch song that was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft, a cute catchy song a lot of people mistakenly believe was song by Boris Karloff but he only did the narration and the voice of the Grinch, the song was really song by Thurl Ravenscroft who is famous for being the voice of Tony the Tiger and if you listen to the song it is unmistakably the same voice as for Frosted Flakes Tony the Tiger and it is sad that these days people don't give him the the credit that he deserves! I love every song on this CD but mainly the Grinch which I have only heard in the Christmas cartoon and I like WE Need A Little Christmas from a Muppet Family Christmas, some balk at that being included saying what does it have to do with cartoons but I think it was included as it is considered Puppet or should I say Muppet animation and that is why it is included and I'm glad it was because the first time I ever heard of this song was in A Muppet Family Christmas and I have been looking for a long tme for their version of the song which has become one of my favorite Christmas songs. I very highly recommend this wonderful CD!

4 out of 5 stars For the kid in all of us.......2001-12-03

This is a great place to collect the original recordings of many of your favorite songs from the Classic Holiday specials.

The Whoville chant "Welcome Christmas" and the nastily clever "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" are the obvious highlights of The Grinch Stole Christmas and both are found here. Same with the Vince Guaraldi Trio's "Christmas Time Is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer is represented by the Burl Ives theme and the delightful "We're A Couple Of Misfits," but left off are Ives' recording of "Silver & Gold" as well as the haunting "There's Always Tomorrow." You'll have to get A Classic Cartoon Christmas Too for that gem as well as "Heat Miser/Snow Miser" (from Year Without A Santa Claus).

A quibble: how does A Muppet Christmas classify as CARTOON Christmas?

Next to the Grinch, the most-loved Christmas villain has got to be the Heat Miser. If "Year Without a Santa Claus" were ever Broadway-bound, the Heat Miser's song would be the showstopper. The theme of his brother, Snow Miser, is nothing to sneeze at either. Both are included on this collection along with "We Wish You a Hairy Chestwig," thanks to Ren & Stimpy. On the more touching side, Burl Ive's "Silver and Gold" is still as warm as brandy, or tea, depending on your tastes, and "There's Always Tomorrow" from Rudolph's epic tale was written to tug at the ol' heart strings. On a more traditional note, "Follow the Star," from The Beginner's Bible Sings stays with the true spirit of the season. --Steve Gdula

3 out of 5 stars I'm too much!.......2005-12-03

I got this CD because it features the cult favorites "Heat Miser" and "Snow Miser" from A Year Without a Santa Claus. There are some other good songs from the classic Christmas cartoons Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. But I hardly think that Ren & Stimpy, Madeline and The Beginner's Bible can be considered "classic Christmas cartoons" (although I like Ren & Stimpy). And with a 22 minutes running time, this CD is way too short. But it's still worth getting just for "Heat Miser" and "Snow Miser".

5 out of 5 stars This Is One Of my Favorite Christmas CD's!.......2005-10-15

I love Christmas music and I love that this CD put out by the Nick at Nite people has songs from the Christmas specials I watched when I was little. I think every song is wonderful but I especially like the Snow Miser and Heat Miser songs and I very highly recommend this wonderful CD which is just as great as the first ick A Nite Christmas CD!

3 out of 5 stars A Classic Too???.......2004-12-05

The first album was spectacular. The Miser songs, First Toy Maker, and Silver and gold were Classics but some of the others I haven't heard in my lifetime and I have been watching since Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer came out in when I was one. Gave it a generous 3 since I enjoyed half of the album.

5 out of 5 stars This CD Is A Lot Of Christmas Fun!.......2001-12-01

This CD is cute and fun, has a lot of Classics from Christmas specials and movies! My favorites are the songs from The Year Without A Santa Claus, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming To Town, and Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. I rate it a 5 for how fun and lively this CD is, it is just filled with silly Christmas fun that is great for both children and adults!

2 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE.......2000-12-26

For some reason, my previous review was posted as though I had not actually purchased the CD. I did.

I bought it for the two songs (Heat Miser/Snow Miser).

I hated all the other songs.
