For young listeners, but with emphatic adult appeal, too. Canadian recording star Al Simmons puts his trademark inventive and off-the-wall-stamp on songs about sight-seeing in his neck of the woods, and general wackiness. If not quite as wildly wonderful as his big band-flavored masterpiece, "Celery Stalks at Midnight," these comically skewed songs are a treat, from a sock's dream of adventure in "Gypsy Sock" to a leaky faucet lament ("Drip Drip Drip") you could mambo to ("relentless rhythm [drip, drip] constant cadence [drop, drop]-won't somebody make it stop.") His gleeful word-play continues with "I Always Punctuate My P's" ("Politely protest if you please, Pitch papaya pits at my knees...But I'll persist, I will proceed, To punctuate my P's") and "The Dog That Went to Yale," about a talented and very useful canine with the longest name in the world. The wackiest number, however, may be "Round Bales of Hay," lyrically mystifying and marvelous, with a fabulous, remarkably sophisticated jazz accompaniment. The creative music, reflecting Simmons' affinity for the sound of the '30s and '40s, is simply astounding. A 1998 Parents' Choice® Silver Honor.

Even Mommy and Daddy can enjoy these incredibly clever children's tunes...original lyrics, never "dumbed down," with great music. We stumbled onto this one and it's lived in the CD player for weeks!
