I Have Songs In My Pocket (Bobby Susser Songs For Children)

Editorial Reviews
School Library Journal
These tunes were intended for interaction with young children who can easily learn the words and sing along. Ben E. King's voice is rich, pleasant, and mellow. Bobby Susser has created a useful package for pre-schoolers. Young children will enjoy the triumph of being able to sing along.

4 out of 5 stars Great Singer But.......2006-08-31

Not 5 stars because at times Ponselle sound like she is in another room and some of the selections are real trash. But - the warmth, line and drama are magnificent and in a few spots the sheer size is amazing - no commercial recording does justice to the size of her voice.

Even Callas, not always the kindest or most objective observer of other sopranos, admitted that Ponselle was the greatest. Callas said that Tebaldi had a lovely voice but who cares? The thousands who went to hear sold out performances and the millions who purchased her recording are those who cares.

Back to Ponselle - her line breath and dramatic interpretations are amazing - I wish I could have heard her complete Norma on stage. I know the critics hated her Carmen they said it was too vulgar. Sounds amazingly intense and vocally impeccable to me, after all, Carmen was closer to a [..] than a debutante.

4 out of 5 stars A treat for Ponselle fans.......2000-02-16

This record shows us a side of Ponselle I've never known before. I now realize just how hurried her old 78's were. The pacing of the songs and arias here is breathtaking in its sweep. And how large the voice sounds! No Ponselle lover will want to miss this one. Sound quality isn't always great. But as a companion to her studio releases, this record is without peer.

5 out of 5 stars Basic Skills For Young Children With Class And Know How.......2005-08-25

Bobby Susser has written and produced songs along with activities that teach young children about letter sounds, numbers, colors, friendship, music, and other basics with all his know how, which he has plenty of. Ben E. King sings this collection of songs with the style and the class that appeals to my preschool class as much as he has appealed to world wide adult audiences for over 50 years. Ben E. King, shows a natural sounding ability to communicate with young children, and Bobby Susser has a remarkable know how for writing young children's songs. Both men sure do have songs in their pockets and my little class is crazy about every one in this collection that entertains them and teaches them basic skills.

5 out of 5 stars Young Children's Basic Skills With Rhythm.......2004-06-07

Bobby Susser and Ben E. King make a great team for this collection of songs that teach basic skills to the children in my day care center. Mr. Susser's songs and productions keep my little ones interested and involved as they learn about colors, letter sounds, friendship, numbers, music, rhythm, holidays, etc. Mr. King sings the songs with feeling and ease. The combination of these two men makes this basic skills collection a favorite for my kids.

5 out of 5 stars These Early Childhood Basic Skills Are The Greatest.......2003-05-05

This CD that I play regularly for my preschool class is a very unique one for young children to learn some basics. It is filled with all the things that make Bobby Susser's songs and activities so appealing to the kids. The music is great. Ben E. King, who is doing most of the singing on this Susser CD is at his finest. The combination of songs, music, vocalists, and subjects like letter sounds, numbers, colors, music, friendship, holidays, and a lovely lullabye all written and produced by Bobby Susser and sung by Ben E. King, absolutely demonstrates that these songs for learning basic skills, sound and are great for young children. Adults will enjoy these songs as much as the children do.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect For Young Children At School And At Home.......2003-01-05

We use this album at home with our two preschool boys all the time. They have learned many of the basics by listening to these songs, and singing along with them. My wife uses this album in her day care center and it is the children's favorite basic skills album there too. Bobby Susser wrote great and meaningful songs for the kids and Ben E. King's singing is as smooth as can be. Every song grabs the children's and adult's attention. This is one children's album that can be played time and time again, and they'll still be tapping their feet, clapping their hands, singing along, and not feel bored. That goes for the adults too.

5 out of 5 stars A Present From Bobby Susser And Ben E. King.......2002-09-29

As a teenager, I listened to Ben E. King sing hit after hit. As a preschool teacher for many years, I have played records, cassettes, and now CDs that Bobby Susser wrote and produced for young children. On this CD where you get the great Bobby Susser, who wrote these songs and activities for young children, and the great Ben E. King singing them, your children will love it as mine do in my own day care center. Ben E. King always sang great songs for teenagers and adults, and Bobby Susser always wrote and produced the greatest children's songs. Now you get both of their talents on one CD for young boys and girls. Colors, numbers, letter sounds, rhythm, and friendship, taught in songs, do not come better than this. It's not just a great CD. It's a great present for children.
