On Songs for Parents and Kids Too! Seattleite Kelly Fernandi holds forth with a passel of beautifully harmonized bluesy folk and rocking acoustic tunes, all of which play right into the very full hands of moms and dads--particularly those riding the up-and-down rails of first-time parenthood. With variably simple handheld games embedded into the CD's jewel cases (great for tykes on car journeys, collect 'em all!) and a portion of proceeds benefiting children's charities, Songs for Parents provides even greater purpose than listening enjoyment. Inspired by the birth of Fernandi's first child--and the accompanying fears, joys, endless questions, and hypercharged intimacy as the daddy of a newly expanded family--Fernandi created an album that succeeds where lesser efforts forsake substance for sentiment. Rather than songs for children that parents will love, Fernandi plays the other way around, reminding parents to "check all your expectations (and preconceptions) at the door" and to "trade in all these blue chips for some blue jeans," while also appealing to kids along the way. Chock full of love from the rocker ("First Find Happiness"), tender-papa pop nugget ("Daddy, Please Come Home"), tearjerker ("44 Degrees of Gratitude"), soother of frayed nerves ("Slippery Slope of Sleep), Songs is a must-have for all expectant and growing families. --Paige La Grone --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

From Parents' Choice®
Kelly Fernandi mixes intense parental soul-searching and soul-baring with a catchy, driving rock beat to inspire and reassure new moms and dads. His "(Bringing a Baby) Into This World," asks, pre-delivery, questions such as "Have we the Right, Have we the Competence? To deal in innocence, To deal in life?" Post-delivery, "Check All Your Expectations" wonders about the new arrival, "Who will he be, who has he been?" and "Are We Doing It Right?" covers unsolicited and differing advice about... read more --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

PRESS RELEASE: Groundbreaking CD Makes Music Industry History

On November 10, 1999, Born To Snap Music, Inc. released a ground-breaking debut CD called "Songs For Parents and kids too!" by Seattle singer-songwriter Kelly Fernandi. The project breaks ground with its unique audience and revolutionary interactive packaging.

"Songs For Parents and kids too!" marks a departure from the traditional genres of children's and family music by aiming at parents. These upbeat songs vividly paint the experiences of parenthood, from pregnancy through the toddler years, with a bright palette of melodic textures and lyrics that parents can intimately relate to. With the help of several talented Seattle musicians, including Kelly's singer-song writing sister Melanie, the music covers an impressive range of styles, including rock, reggae, folk, 40's jazz, barbershop, POP, new age, spy and blues. And while the versatile vocals, artful song writing and quality musicianship can satisfy the most sophisticated adult tastes, kids simply love the songs too.

Furthermore, this CD introduces a feature that has never been seen in the music industry. A series of interactive games has been built into the CD case itself. Located in the space along the left side of the clear jewel case, you will discover a game, complete with rules, an objective, and a distinct themed challenge. All in all, there are 12 versions available, each presenting a unique challenge, and each themed to a different aspect of parenthood, nursery rhymes or songs from the CD.

Overall, "Songs For Parents and kids too!" by Kelly Fernandi presents a wonderful experience of high-energy songs that are as infectious for the kids as they are meaningful for the parents - all in a challenging and fun, interactive package. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2002-05-01

What a wonderfully, expressive album. It captures feelings I had (and have) but could not put into words. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars A treat for parents and singles.......2002-03-13

Songs for Parents and kids too is just that and more. Kelly Fernandi put together an amazing album that taps into numerous genres of music including rock and roll, blues, reggae, and even A Cappella. This album not only entertains, but it reminds us all about what is important in life. Personally, I do not have children, but when this album goes into my car cd player, it's a long time before it comes out. Entertaining, inspiring, and from the heart - - don't miss out on this evolutionary album.

5 out of 5 stars A Must-have for All Parents.......2000-07-11

First of all, Mr. Fernandi not only has an incredible vocal range, but he is also able to perform so many different styles with ease. Secondly, this CD is a must have for all parents but especially for those expecting. All parents have gone through that anxious period of wondering the whys, hows, whats, and whens of becoming a parent. It's nice to finally know that others have been in this same boat before. Finally, the amazing acapella "Natalie", with it's rich harmonizations and three incredible voices was like a dream come true. I hope that this CD is a springboard for Mr. Fernandi to continue to treat us to other songs as his children grow older.

5 out of 5 stars Check all your expectations at the door!.......2000-05-09

Oh, man. Another angst-laden grunge act from Seattle. Um, no. This is a wonderful and refreshing disc. Kelly's incredible voice range is perfect for the diversity of his songs on this freshman outting. These songs with influences from folk to blues to jazz (and yes, a little carribean flavor, too) will have young and old tapping their little fingers and toes in no time at all! You don't have to be a parent to dig the messages and questions within. And you don't hafta be a kid to enjoy the game (which I quickly discovered doubles as a rattle! ) First buy this cd for yourself. Then buy it for all your friends with kids. Your parents will probably enjoy it, too. This would make a great Anniversary gift for your folks as they most certainly experienced a lot of what Kelly is singing about. I especially enjoy the arrangement on the vocal "Natalie" If this music doesn't make you smile, you've lost the twinkle in your eye.

4 out of 5 stars songs for parents and kids too.......2000-01-26

I am stationed in bosnia and enjoy listening to kellys music, it keeps me thinking about the important things in my life and how to keep them in order. His music reminds us all what to look for, and as his song says "first find happiness". These songs are a great compulation of lifes little lessons that most folks hear and say to themselves "I should do that", but then forget to do because they are not reminded. This cd is a pleasure to listen to and a constant reminder of the important lessons we can all try to work on every day. Mr. Kelly Fernandi I thank you for the work you have put into this cd and all your time spent in the planning phase. The jacket of the cd was eyecaching and, as I like to see, contained the lyrics to your songs. I hope to see more of your music in the future. To any prospective buyer if you are going to buy a new cd from an unknown artist this week: this is the one to buy you will be pleasantly supprised by the diversity of music style and sounds. You will wish to always have this cd availble. I purchased my cd in nov and it has made the four thousand mile trip to bosnia with me. This is the cd you do not want to get away! Get your copy now.

5 out of 5 stars This is an awesome cd!!!.......2004-10-06

My 2 year old LOVES this cd!! So do we!
The owie song is his favorite. It is something you can play for the kids and not want to pull your hair out by the time it's over. Parents will enjoy the catchy tunes as well.
They are soo true too, like the Jungle Gym song!! We laugh at The Ballad of Hey and Getoffame everytime and my husband can never get Whatchamadingy out of his head!
I reccomend this cd to everyone with kids no matter their age. You will love it!

5 out of 5 stars Bananappealing.......2001-09-07

Funny, smart, tuneful and inventive, this album is a departure from your regular sleepy-eyed childrens' songs. I sent Bananappeal to my nephew and neices and they loved it -- skipping around the house/humming it loved it. The themes are universal to children yet are uniquely shown. For a fresh take on life -- from the kids' perspective (but for the whole family too) -- you've gotta get Banaappeal!
