Bear in the Big Blue House [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
From Parents' Choice®
"Welcome to the Blue House": Kids don't have to be familiar with the Disney Channel's lovely show for preschoolers to enjoy this positive, upbeat album. Big, calm, comforting Bear, the nurturing patriarch of the show, and his pals Ojo and Tutter sing affirming songs about friendship, family, growing and learning. The music is sophisticated and beautifully performed, but the messages are simple, singable, and imbued with Bear's gentle spirit throughout. A 1999 Parents' Choice® Recommended winner.Reviewed by Lynne Heffley, Parents' Choice® 1999

Songs from Bear in the Big Blue House, which sends kids 2 and older an open invitation to a gigglefest, is bursting at the seams with simple melodies, goofy voices, and loopy, encouraging lyrics that linger. This 24-track is a testament to the late Jim Henson's genius for conjuring characters that bounce off one another with a just-right mix of confusion and harmony. An offshoot of the Disney Channel television show of the same name, Songs boasts the familiar Muppet-like housemates--caring and compassionate Bear; Tutter the high-strung mouse; orange Ojo, a junior bear; otters Pip and Pop; and Treelo the lemur. Bear's warm baritone finds its way onto every last track--he's clearly the head of the big blue household, though hardly its pluckiest resident--but each of the other characters comes clean about a kid-pertinent issue or two on these songs, too. Ojo, for example, relates the unfairness of getting spooked by big, scary monsters every time she goes to bed on "Go to Bed, Sleepy Head," and Tutter tackles his type-A tendencies on "Take Time to Smell the Cheese" and "Quiet Time." In contrast, some of these songs are pure, message-free fun: Pip and Pop momentarily become the Salt 'n' Pepa of the puppet kingdom on "Otter Love," a hip-hoppy ode to the warm fuzzies, and Bear and Treelo bust a toe-twitching move on "The Bear Cha-Cha-Cha." Fans of the show will know most songs and appreciate their accessibility and portability on disc or tape. Those who aren't already tuned in, on the other hand, will take a shining to this oddball crew given this smartly accessible musical introduction. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
THIS CD ROCKS! !!! PARENTS will LOVE this as much as kids.......2004-01-17
This is a great CD and we owned it a couple years prior to seeing the show. The songs have great lyrics and fab sounds. buy this for yourself and everyone you know. This is not your typical kids CD. My 4 year old loves this and now my 14 month old wants "Bear" when she is in the car. My husband even finds himself singing the songs in the house. Listening to "their music" will not be torture any longer.....
Just TRY not to sing along!.......2003-09-27
We've only had this CD a few days, and have probably listened to it 100 times already. My 2.5 yr. old daughter has only seen the BITBBH Potty Time video and a few other episodes, so you don't have to be a regular viewer to love this music. The only song that I could do without is "Go to Bed, Sleepy Head", and not because it's not a good song (it is), but because Ojo is discussing how when she tries to go to sleep at night, these scary monsters keep coming in her room making scary noises. Of course, the rest of the song is Bear reassuring her that everything is OK., etc. But it seems to have planted a seed in my daughter's head that there could be scary monsters in her room! Yikes! We hadn't quite gotten to that stage of development yet, but it was sure to come at some point. So for now, I try to skip it if I can. Having said all that, I still give it 5 stars; it's that good! The rest of the CD is a a nice mix of different styles of music, including a rap tune (Otter Love) that at first seemed a little out of place, but it grows on you. The best are "That's My Name" and "Oops! I Goofed Again", but really they're all great!
AWESOME Kid's CD!.......2003-09-08
Our family LOVES this disc. We ALL sing along with it! Definitely be warned, lol, it will take you by surprise!! Have fun - this is WELL worth your money!!
He got my son singing!!!..........2003-03-16
This is a great cd!!! Out of all the children's characters there are today, this is the absolute best. I'm bilingual Canadian. Out of both English and French, it's the best.. The songs are clear and understandable for the young kids.. My son always loved music, but this one rocks... For the first time I got to see him not only dance to music he loved but sing to it too... his favorite is the goodbye song...To see the excitement in his eyes that he was saying all the right words at the same time as Bear was precious...I recommend this to any parent with young children... toddlers to be exact.
Darn! It grew on me........2002-12-12
I don't know what posessed me to buy this for my daughter. But after 12,000,000 playings of it, I can't get the songs out of my head.
The final 6 or 7 tunes are especially good. Now I can't stop humming them. It's awful!
Be warned.

Great Music for children.......2007-03-07
It is great music for children and the adults don't mind it too much either. This has alot of the tv & movie hit music too.
Compilation Album.......2006-07-31
"Bear in the Big Blue House: Greatest Hits" is a compilation album featuring 26 songs put together from the show's original album releases --- "Songs from Jim Henson's Bear in the Big Blue House" and "More Songs from Jim Henson's Bear in the Big Blue House." It's a great set of songs, but unfortunately there's nothing here that's not already available on another album. This is too bad, because this show still has so many great songs that can't yet be heard on any album.
Overall, this is a good album if you want to hear some of the best music from the show. But if you already have the original to albums or are able to obtain them, then there's really no reason to get this.

Creative Genius.......2004-09-24
The folks that write the music for this wonderful show should win a Grammy. They are able to come up with an amazing song for so many different genres of music... from 60s lounge to songs formulated to sound like Barry White or the Beastie Boys. My favorite by far on this album is "Rhythm in the Air," which is a throwback to swing. So freakin' good! And my son, who is two, just goes nuts when we play it. These people are so creative! It makes me want to do something creative too!
Age is not a factor, it's well written tunes and catchy!.......2004-02-10
This is one of my favorite CDs, as well as something to share with the kids. It is not uncommon to have it played loadly from my Jeep's sterio, while we drive around town and the whole family sings along to tunes like "Picture This". (I'm 33 years old, by the way). I stopped in at Amazon.com to check on prices for replacing our now aging and worn copy.
Don't get me wrong, we're not insane or anything, we listen to other stuff too, like the Ramones, Sarah MacLachlan and the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" sountrack, but our "Bear in the Big Blue House" CD tends to get the majority of play time in the car, and of the two BitBBH CD's, "More Songs..." has more of our faves than the first CD.
OHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHH!!!!.......2004-01-28
Hey yous guys! I bought this cd for my kids but when I listened to it, I kept it for myself!! It really pumps me up and gets me ready to go. It also is a good cd to put you in the mood (if you know what I mean) It arouses my wife as well! ;) I LOVE LISTENING TO THIS CD! Sometimes, I skip work just to listen to this and sing along with Bear! I've never felt so alive. The track "What's In the Mail Today?" is my favorite!
An older fan.......2003-06-11
o.O; Who says you have to be 3 or listen to this on your way to daycare? This may sound creepy to you, but I'm 14 and I lurve these songs! It just proves that no matter how old you are, you could still enjoy Bear's beautiful voice. ^^ Whether you're 1 or 81, you should check out this CD. You won't be disappointed.
Great Music for Kids - Bear Fans or not.......2003-04-15
I checked this CD out from the library on the recommendation of a friend. My kids (3-1/2 and 2)have never even watched "Bear in the Big Blue House", but they love this CD! We had it out from the library as long as we could, and then luckily found the original "Bear" CD and checked it out - it's just as good. I'm on www.Amazon.com right now to buy both of them. The songs have great arrangements and are really pretty catchy and even enjoyable for adults to listen to. They will stick in your head constantly, as do most children's songs, so be warned! I've been laying in bed in the middle of the night many a time with these songs going over and over in my mind - but it's worth it. We sing "What's in the Mail Today?" every day on our way to get the mail, "Everybody in the Tub" every night at bath time . . . and they especially love "Your Grandma and Grandpa" and "Shadow's Lullaby". They perk up and start dancing wildly whenever they hear the first few notes of the first song and realize we get to listen to "Bear". Strongly recommend this CD to any family with young children who love music.

Young fans of Jim Henson and the Disney Channel's Bear in the Big Blue House will revel in this holiday celebration of 20 short seasonal songs exuberantly sung by gentle Bear and other characters like Doc Hogg and the raspy-voiced mouse, Tutter. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Kwanzaa are represented here in eclectic songs that range from triumphant ("A Berry Bear Christmas") to soothing ("Just Listen") to forlornly earnest (Jack the hound singing "The Best Present Ever") to a happy medley, "The Woodland Valley Carols," that indulges in holiday twists such as "Oh, come all ye otters" and "On the fifth day of Clamsmas." In "That's All I Want for Christmas," Santa Hogg takes requests for "tons and tons of cheese" and "a hundred trillion clams." A real favorite is the jazzy "Bat Dance" by Robert and Deena Cole: "You see, it's all in the wings." A wonderful quality to all the songs is that they're clearly enunciated by the motley crew of fuzzy characters, so kids can actually hear the words. Heartfelt holiday cheer abounds in Peter Lurye's impressive production that surely rivals the Muppets in inventiveness and kid appeal. Start listening to the Halloween songs in October and you and your kids will have the whole CD memorized by Christmas! --Karin Snelson

Customer Reviews:
Daughter loves this CD!!!.......2003-09-07
Our daughter is a huge fan of Bear and his friend so of course she loves this CD...once it's on we have to dance, dance, dance! Of course the songs also remind her of watching Bear so 9 times out of 10 we end up watching the DVD of Bear shortly after listening to him sing!
Couldn't drive without it!!!.......2001-11-01
This is the only CD that keeps my daughter quiet in the car! Driving anywhere would be a impossible without it!
CHA CHA CHA!.......2001-09-26
For the little ones who love Bear ITBBH this is great! All of their favourite songs. We dance at home to it and sing in the car. For road trips it is the BEST -- keeping our "fan" quite content -- and after two - 7 hour road trips this summer -- we too know all the words. The best part is when your "fan" falls asleep and you still find yourself traveling down the road singing along with Bear and the gang! Definitely worth it!
Driving with Bear.......2000-12-08
I am one of those fathers that prior to my child's birth said on several occasions that there was no way I would be listening to children's music while driving. Well, I was wrong. My little girl is fascinated with this album and therefore driving anywhere just doesn't seem complete without this CD in the player. Most of the songs on this album are lively and seem to capture her attention as well as mine. In my opinion there are not too many things better than seeing a happy child and this CD has certainly accomplished that.
Must have for Bear Fans!!.......2000-08-27
My 7 month old and I discovered Bear in the Big Blue House this summer and we can't get enough! This CD is a great selection of songs from various episodes. My daughter loves to dance and every song gets her to shake her bon bon! We are having some confusion...she can't understand why Bear isn't on TV when we play it.
