Customer Reviews:
Great Children's CD.......2007-07-12
I grew up listening to these songs on an old record that my parents had. We lost the record and I searched for these songs for my new little baby girl. I am so happy that I found it on Amazon and that my baby girl gets to grow up with the same classics that I did when I was a kid. The CD is wonderful and the price was even better.
Aww the good old times!.......2007-06-18
I grew up with this music!! My dad bought the records when I was little, YES records! Im 25yrs old so this was the late the 80's when he purchased it. Now I have the opportunity to introduce this to my children! I'm so glad they are continuing to sell this music because I loved it as a child. I still remember taking the records out and asking my parents to play it.
Walt Disney CD: Characters Do Not Sing.......2007-06-06
I'm a little disappointed. I purchased this CD thinking The Disney Characters would be singing the songs. My son was all excited when I showed him the CD and asked me to play it. When he heard it he said "this is not Mickey Mouse". He was very sad. The songs on this CD are sung by children. The CD is ok.
Garbage.......2007-05-13
Really very boring and campy - I can't bear to listen and wish I could return it. In fact all of the Disney Lullabuys and children's songs were downright horrible. Stick with Baby Einstein, Rock a Bye Baby and Just for Kids - Curious George is great too
Yeah!.......2007-03-04
Much better than all of those other randon baby CD's where all of the songs sound exactly the same and sound like they are sung by chipmunks!!

I love this CD.
My 2 yr old niece knows the words to every song.
We can't get through one day without her requesting to hear "carrot stew" or "when the saints go marching in".
It's her all-time favorite CD.

Customer Reviews:
Fun Sing-Along CD for everyone!.......2007-07-13
This compilation of children's sing-along songs is well put together. The male voice who sings these is sprite and chipper. Much better than a group of off-key kids singing children's songs! I thoroughly enjoy listening to this and singing them with my kids.
Wonderful product.......2007-05-20
My baby loves this music CD. It was very nicely made and produced.
Great CD.......2006-01-07
I have all four volumes and think they're all good, but volume 1 is the best.
Great Traditional Music.......2005-08-18
I had the Disney Songtape edition of this album when I was a kid. I have always love the Disneyland Children's Sing-Along Chorus on this album. I also had volumes 1 and 2 on record. When i got older i realized that Larry Groce was the lead singer. He had a hit in the 70's called Junk Food Junkie on the Dr. Demento show. I reciently bought all 4 volumes on CD. I like to listen to them while I work. He also did the Disneyland Little Golden Books Read-Alongs. That is Where "Why Do The Make Things Like They Do" comes from and "Thumbelina" On Volume 2. I wish the re-issued the series with the the Original Record Cover Pictures. They had the Disney Characters acting out the songs.
This is great for Disney fans because it gets away from the common Mickey Mouse songs. I love them at 23 years old.
Not the best for sing along.......2005-01-08
This album is not as much fun to sing along to as volume 1. We will probably listen to this album very rarely as I am already looking for another to replace it.

Customer Reviews:
Another wonderful Susie Tallman CD!.......2007-06-26
I purchased this CD after absolutely loving her Children's Songs CD. Her music is so much fun to sing, sway, and dance to. I own 4 of her CD's and enjoy them all for different reasons. They are arranged and performed beautifully. It was a delightful surprise to find music for our baby that my husband and I love too! Susie's music totally relaxes our son when he is upset. It is impossible to be in a bad mood when you turn it on! It will always be included in baby shower gifts from now on.
Lucy and baby Sam
Not as good as her other CDs.......2007-05-13
We love Susie Tallman's "Children's Songs, A Collection of Childhood Favorites" CD, so we ordered this one. It's not as good. The second half of the CD is basically people reading some nursery rhymes, not too original.
One of the best children's cds ever!.......2007-05-11
I checked this cd out from the library to play at my pre-school music class that I teach each week. I loved it from the first song because of all the different instruments used for background music, and then when I got to the rap song "Hickory Dickory Dock" I was laughing out loud. My kids in my class just loved it. I just bought the cd so I can play it for my own children and my grandkids.
LOVE LOVE this CD.......2007-01-05
Susie Tallman does a great job with this CD, my husband and I find ourselfves singing these songs way after the CD has been off.
For my 7 month old while his mom (me) is away playing army in iraq........2006-08-31
review written by dad: He likes both of them (Children's Songs, A Collection of Childhood Favorites). We dance and sing to them. They are not really falling asleep cd's. I use them after naps and they play a role in our loosely structured playtime.

Album Description
Winner of the "Parents' Choice Gold Seal Award and an American Library Association Notable Children's Recording, Stardreamer is a perfect gift for expectant and new parents. From the opening song "Waltzing with Bears" to the creaking rocking chair that closes the album, Stardreamer is a beautiful song cycle that will calm a child and delight parents. Priscilla Herdman's gorgeous vocals along with the impeccable acoustic instrumental arrangements have made Stardreamer a perennial favorite since its original release in 1988. This newly remastered classic is now available on the singer's own independent label. This is a gentle going-to-bed recording that holds up after countless listenings. Over 100,000 families with peacefully sleeping children can't be wrong.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful CD for Parents of Babies and Young Children.......2007-03-15
I love this CD and so does everyone we've given it to as a gift. I especially like "Waltzing with Bears."
Stardreamer.......2007-03-08
The CD arrived looking fine. It was a gift of lullabies for a friend who has baby twins. She reports that she and they all love it.
Great for children and adults.......2007-03-06
This is one of my all-time favorite children's CDs, though it's very enjoyable for adults, too, especially if you like folk music. It seems that most vocal lullaby albums feature soprano singers, and, being a contralto myself, it's so refreshing to listen to a singer with a more mellow, warm, lower voice. It's also much easier for me to sing along in these keys! If you'd like to check out other albums for kids, do look into Lullaby: A Collection (Music for Little People), or anything by Susie Tallman and Friends.
Beautiful for children and adults alike!.......2007-02-03
My first experience with Priscilla Herdman...and what an impression! I didn't want to return this to the library; neither did my children, ages 2 and 6. Her beautiful, clear, crisp voice with simple, yet rich harmonies and melodies expose kids to the art of folk music and classic rhyme. I've always sung to my children...now I have perfect company! This is my new gift for all parents!
Herdman is magic for children.......2006-10-05
I play this for my grandchildren - and for me. The kids love Herdman's very distinctive approach and relate well to her music. And you know what? So do I. Great music for young and old.

The most kid-friendly of Michelle Shocked's three simultaneous June 2005 releases, Got No Strings brings the spirit of swing--from western to supper-club--to a collection of Disney soundtrack tunes. The steel guitar of Greg Leisz helps transform the familiar "A Dream Is a Wish" into a honky-tonk waltz, until the sprightly fiddle of Gabe Witcher takes a break that recalls the 1930s' Hot Club of France. Shocked imbues "When You Wish upon a Star" with a breathy sophistication, gives "Spoonful of Sugar" a bluesy tinge, and has never sounded more tender than she does on the lullaby "Baby Mine." Producer/guitarist Nick Forster of Hot Rize and band provide sprightly support throughout. From the hipster scat of "To Be a Cat" to the concluding yodel of "Spoonful of Sugar," Shocked and her musicians sound like they're having fun. --Don McLeese

Customer Reviews:
This is a great album.......2007-01-10
I play it for my child everyday... I have never heard any other Michelle Shocked albums, but this one is so good I should check out her other ones. I heard this was a jam session too, like recorded in one evening.. Wow this woman must be talented to pull off such a high quality album in one night. This is a kid friendly album that both you and your child will cherish.
I never got to the other two.......2006-05-26
I purchased Threesome because Michelle Shocked feels like an old friend to me and I like old friends. The first time I ever heard "If Love Was A Train" I perked right up and by the time I heard "Anchorage" I was in love. To this day Arkansas Traveler is one of my all time favorites as is Short Sharp and I gladly revisited them in their re-issued quality controlled form. Then I decided to see what Michelle is up to now and I can't tell you fully because I haven't stopped listening to No Strings. Maybe the other two discs are even better but I wouldn't know that yet. I love this disc. It came to me at just the right time in my life and I feel like she's singing wonderful words of encouragement just to me. So nice. And I don't even like Disney. Or I didn't think i did. Do yourself a favor and get this right away. You need it. Oh boy, i'm going to listen to it again right now, just talking about it.
Simple and Terrific.......2005-10-25
According to the liner notes, Michelle recorded this album in three days. Those were three VERY productive days. This underproduced work is a perfect tonic to the overproduced, over distorted, and underwhelming music of today. It never pretends to be more than it is, and by that, transcends the jaded listener to a wonderful musical interlude.
In three adjectives: simple, direct, beautiful.
Adults and children rejoice: Disney takes a Western Swing!.......2005-09-19
Shocked's wellspring of creativity is clearly overflowing, as she'w issued three diversely toned albums all at once. This disc reimagineers classic and obscure Disney tunes as jazzy western swing songs. The sprightly treasure "Spoonful of Sugar" is rearranged as a sly story-song, rather than accompaniment for an eye-popping film sequence, and the joyous "Bare Necessities" is given a twangy, toe-tapping arrangement lined by Greg Leisz' lap steel and Gabe Witcher's fiddle. The Aristocrats' "To Be a Cat" and Pinnochio's "Give a Little Whistle" sound like they were plucked from Le Hot Club, and "Dream is a Wish" is turned into a gentle waltz. Parents seeking refuge from overbearing TV dinosaurs and wiggling adults, will find a fine collection of terrific songs rendered fresh and airy for children who will be enchanted by the Disney magic. The musicianship is top-notch, which means that you won't tire of hearing these gems on their hundredth play... in a row. [©2005 redtunictroll at hotmail dot com]
Definitely Not Just For Kids.......2005-07-19
Ya gotta admire and respect Michelle Shocked for making her music her way (even when you might not "get" what she's trying to do). She never compromises her art, even if compromising might give her a bit more popularity. So this album is pure joy: you can tell she did exactly what she wanted to do -- and the result is charming and delightful and accessible. Who else would have thought of doing a full country-swing album of classic Disney songs? And who else could have pulled it off? Answer: No one but Michelle Shocked.
For me, the only disappointing track is "Spoonful of Sugar." For some reason, it sounds a bit depressing to me. Was that supposed to be irony?
"To Be A Cat" (from THE ARISTOCATS) is my favorite track, although I must admit the song never struck me as one of the "classic" Disney songs. Shocked makes it so clever and sophisticated and irresistably swingin' that I wonder why I never paid much attention to it before.
Don't think the album is "just for kids." I know this middle-aged grump will be listening to it for a long time.

Album Description
The idealistic appeal of "fighting the good fight" against the fascist troops of General Francisco Franco as he warred against Spain's democratically elected government drew more than 45,000 volunteer soldiers from over 50 countries during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). This influx created a canon of war-related songs sung by the freedom fighters and revived during the American folk boom of the Fifties.
SPAIN IN MY HEART presents new recordings of vintage and recent songs inspired by the conflict and performed by an international roster of musicians. The United States is represented by folk's activist icon, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, master instrumentalist/vocalist John McCutcheon, bluegrass singer/fiddler Laurie Lewis, East L.A.'s Quetzal, multicultural singer/songwriter/actress Michele Greene, and Joel and Jamaica Rafael of the Joel Rafael Band. From Mexico and Nicaragua come vocalist Lila Downs and Duo Guardabarranco, respectively. The Irish volunteers are solo artist Aoife Clancy, formerly of Cherish the Ladies, and Shay Black of The Black Family. Spain itself is represented by two of its leading contemporary singers, Eliseo Parra and Uxía.
The songs here, acoustic-based and many in Spanish, form a surprisingly delicate mosaic. Rather than emulating the strident chaos of battle, the CD conveys more subtle aspects of the conflict - yearning for simpler times ("Asturias," "En La Plaza De Mi Pueblo"); longing for distant loved ones ("The Bantry Girls' Lament"); the equal significance of life, love and death ("Llegó Con Tres Heridas"). The war and the bravery of the anti-fascist forces are addressed in such songs as "Jarama Valley," "El Quinto Regimiento," "Taste of Ashes," and "The Abraham Lincoln Brigade."
No matter in what language the songs are performed, the bravery, pain and loss felt by soldiers and civilians alike are rendered with a conviction and feeling that transcends words and forges an aching link with the listener.
Customer Reviews:
Keeps Alive the Spirit of Justice and Freedom.......2004-08-06
As the son of a British International Brigade veteran and a Spanish Republican refugee,I grew up with the pain of betrayal, defeat, and exile. Songs helped to sustain us during the long dark years of Franco's dictatorship. This record captures the emotion, joy, and beauty of many of those songs, as well as some new ones, and keeps alive the spirit which took thousands of volunteers from around the world to fight for justice and freedom in Spain.

Outstanding collection -- great fun.......2005-12-11
Both this and volume one of The Story That the Crow Told Me are terrific. They are highly recommended for anyone who likes traditional American music, particularly anyone who wants to introduce this music to children. I bought them when my daughter was six and she still enjoys them now at eleven.
This is not homogenized "children's music." These are adult musicians singing vibrant music to their friends and families about their everyday rural life. The songs are funny, sly, clever, poignant, and boisterous by turns. While volume one is a bit stronger on the whole, some of our favorite tunes are on volume two. Great stuff.
