About the Artist
A resident of Southern California, devoted husband and father of two young children, Dirk was inspired to create this CD to help his children and other kids discover the wonders and joys of the beautiful world around us. Dirk is a multi-talented musician who has been composing and performing music professionally for the past ten years. He is most well-known for his association with the neo-swing band "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy".

The Voodoo Daddy began professionally in 1993 and have produced three commercially available CD’s. Titles include their platinum selling self-titled album released in February 1998, "This Beautiful Life" in October 1999 and their latest effort "Save My Soul" released in July 2003. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is most well known for their appearance in the 1997 hit film "Swingers" which they portrayed themselves performing at The Derby nightclub in Los Angeles California.

The songs that make up "Everybody’s Gotta’ Have A Place" define a universal theme of compatibility between human beings and all the other living creatures that share the planet with us. Each song contains a clear lyrical message that tells a story in a fun and educational way that will inspire parents and children alike. The original music is recorded in various styles including bluegrass, western, Dixieland, Motown, rock n’ roll & calypso. All these styles are presented in a fun and rhythmic way that will encourage sing-a-long, active play together.

The packaging and artwork for the compact disc is colorful and full of creative imagery. Included in the package is a 20-page booklet that contains the complete lyrics to all the tunes, along with reproductions of eight original watercolor paintings that illustrate a playful interpretation of the songs. The CD case is produced in an environmentally friendly and child-safe cardstock type container. This is to avoid any accidents associated with breakage that usually occur with the common plastic jewel case.

We love this album... it's fun little sound effects always make my kids giggle and the music is catchy. It's a winner on our road trips.

A fresh, unique, wonderful collection of music for kids! Our kids love this CD and so did their classmates at show-n-tell ! We can't wait for the DVD!!

The kids will bop up and down to it! If you've never seen this with your kids, then just buy this CD and put it on. It's fun to watch them dance and sing along. Dirk writes and plays with a ton of sincere heart and soul. His songs are charming, humorous, and the musicianship is always excellent. His original songs will quickly become familiar and sound as if you've known them all-along because they are so catchy and familiar. Dirk Shumaker is truly one of America's greatest all-time music heroes! Everybody's Gotta' Have This CD!

As a person nearing their mid 20's in age, I found myself singing along and tapping my toes to the songs on "Everybody's Gotta' Have A Place" by Dirk Shumaker. This CD has such an eclectic mix of different genres of music which you normally don't hear on other children CD's. With genres ranging from country and calypso to bluegrass and rock n' roll, this is the perfect CD to introduce kids to different music genres! This CD is appealing for any child from 1 to 100!
