Disney's series keeps the hits coming, and mostly the bounty feels like a blessing. Sit any 3-year-old in front of the speakers, and they will obligingly row, row, row the boat, hokey pokey, and pay happy respects to Old Smokey. Where the disc goes wrong, though, is in the teasing way it trots out familiar characters--Mickey and Minnie make a few appearances, and so do Goofy and Donald, but for the better part of the record kids are left to go loopty-loo alongside a stranger. That he's a rich and mellow-voiced one isn't enough; it's the cartoonishness that keeps the mood lively, and considering that the big cheese himself--Mickey--proclaimed these hits his favorite, he should have, for his adoring audiences' sake, chimed in on a few more songs. --Tammy La Gorce

This CD has been one my daughter's favorite (and mine, too) for several years. Because it is so scratched, we just bought a new one! All of these songs are old time classics. This CD stays in our car for those long car rides we so frequently take, and we love singing at top voice all these songs - songs I grew up with (I'm in my 40's), and now songs that are quickly becoming my daughter's favorites. We ESPECIALLY love Froggy Went A'Courtin'. I can't tell you how many times we have hit the "back" button to sing this over and over again. In addressing the previous review regarding "What do you do with a drunken sailor", this song was a classic back when I was a kid, and it certainly didn't persuade me to become a drunk or condone drunkenness in my growing up years. It's all about parental influence and teaching that keeps these sorts of things in perspective. Buy this CD. You'll be so glad you did because all the songs are so well done, and very enjoyable, even for this sophisticated adult who is a professional pianist/musician.
