Rockin' With the Goose

It's been done before, but rarely with this much heart. H. Lynn Kitchens rips through the classic rock universe on "Rockin' with the Goose," dousing "Humpty Dumpty" with a Chicago-style horn section, sprinkling Brit-pop zip over "Simple Simon," and twisting "Bunch of Blue Ribbons" around a Beatles melody along the way. He's got the chops to pull it off, having racked up 35 years playing alongside Johnny Paycheck, Bill Frizell, and Allman Brother Dickie Betts, but best of all, he knows his boundaries. A stick-to-a-single-era sensibility lets him set "Little Boy Blue" to Led Zeppelin-inspired howls, for example, without blowing it to unbearable-sounding smithereens. Part of the fun is singling out specific influences: Is that ZZ Top or Aerosmith he's channeling on "Three Little Kittens"? It's tough to tell at times, but no matter--Old King Cole and his cronies have never sounded cooler. --Tammy La Gorce

Awesome!.......2006-11-22
I work in the children's music industry and of all the artists I've heard, H. Lynn Kitchens is right up there with the best of them. Words that come to mind: Innovative. Brilliantly executed. Amusing. Insanely catchy.
I stumbled across this recording and it is now a favorite in our household. HIGHLY recommend!
A new twist on Mother Goose!.......2003-05-28
When I first received this CD, I expected just another collection of the same old Mother Goose rhyming tunes...but I was pleasantly surprised!
In the CD, "Rockin' With the Goose," by H. Lynn Kitchens, some of the familiar lyrics you'll hear are "Humpty Dumpty," Three Little Kittens," and "Jack and Jill," (which has a great blues tune!)." There are also some that were not familiar to me such as, "Bunch of Blue Ribbons," (one of my favorites!) "Myself," and "Three Ships."
This CD is definitely not just another collection of old nursery rhymes. This is an updated and hip version of those rhymes, each put to various tempos. These tunes are so likeable, that I found myself whistlying the tunes long after the CD was finished playing!
MyParenTime.com highly recommends this CD -- age-appropriate lyrics mixed with the sounds of today's music, makes this CD fun and a refreshing change.
