Singin' In The Bathtub [Blisterpack]

Editorial Reviews

In John Lithgow's most memorable roles, he's played the outsider: the transsexual former football player in The World According to Garp, the alien in Third Rock from the Sun. On Singin' in the Bathtub, he puts the same aspect of his character that's made him successful in those roles--the slightly-out-of-touch wonder at the obvious--to work on 14 children's songs. Backed by a big band (and the occasional banjo or musical saw), Lithgow takes on topics from multiple births (the Alice in Wonderland-esque "Triplets"), the alphabet ("You're Adorable, A" which recalls Really Rosie's "Alligators All Around"), and a veritable menagerie ("The Gnu Song," "I Had a Rooster," "The Hippopotamus Song," and "The Inchworm"). He kicks off the title song with a reminder to "Grab your ducky, grab your toy boat--let's make this fun!" It's a triumph that he manages to do so for the entire album; but be warned--Lithgow's energy level is tough to keep up with, and you might find yourself exhausted long before the album ends. --Randy Silver

From Parents' Choice®
Lucky, lucky kids. John Lithgow's first children's CD is simply one of the best children's albums ever. The "3rd Rock From the Sun" star puts his own deliriously wacky, irrepressible stamp on classic kid songs and adaptations of B roadway and novelty tunes, with more than a nod to Cab Calloway, Danny Kaye, comic British songwriters Flanders and Swann and other distinctive talents. Bill Elliott's Swing Orchestra and other musicians supply the gorgeous big band and m usic hall-style... read more --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars great car music...for adults and kids.......2007-05-03

Parents thank your lucky stars...funny, entertaining, and great tunes...so great that you will listen even when you are driving alone!

5 out of 5 stars Must Have Kids CD.......2007-03-20

I urge you to buy this CD for your kids right now. John Lithgow is amazing. He is so funny and extremely talented. I love all the jazzy tunes and also the lyrics.

5 out of 5 stars Great Tub Music.......2007-01-12

This CD and Lithgow companion CD are great for our grand kids. We have a set in the house and the car.

5 out of 5 stars EDUCATIONAL!!! On a whole new level!.......2006-09-17

As the mother of two (ages 3 & 5), I have heard all the same kid's music 9 MILLION times! What a difference! This CD has my two kids learning great vocabulary not to mention asking questions about the animals included in the songs and tons of other things that give me the opportunity to teach them cool facts. The variety of musical styles from jazz to swing to folk encourage my kids to enjoy musical diversity. I agree that the triplets song is a bit much but EVERY cd player I've ever seen has a skip button or you can just burn a copy without it! The rest is simply TOO GOOD to MISS!

1 out of 5 stars John has very poor taste.......2006-07-24

Generally harmless, except for one very offensive song about siblings that hate each other and hate their parents. The song is probably funny to ultra-sophisticated, cynical adults. But the song is totally inappropriate for a four year old. I wouldn't bring this CD into your house.
